Visualizing painters' lives series from accurat on Vimeo.
This project is an attempt to build a visual anthology of 10 abstract painters’ lives, isolating pictorial elements from painters’ styles and using them to tell the story of their life and artistic production through a series of diagrams.

Behind the Scenes: Lush Spa Film from The Mill on Vimeo.
Mill+ joined forces with Lush to create a 2-minute film created via biometric data visualization - the aim being to visualize the physical response someone has to a Lush spa treatment, essentially turning biometric data into art. Red Bull Music Academy - A Night of Spiritual Jazz from The Mill on Vimeo.
Mill+ built an experimental live visual system to electrify a live performance by Kamasi Washington, Pharoah Sanders and the Sun Ra Arkestra for Red Bull Music Academy. Inspired by the psychedelic and improvisational vocabulary of Spiritual Jazz, we created two systems that blend Sacred Mathematics and 60’s-era liquid light shows with audio reactive software. The result was a performance collaboration between a band, a visual artist and software — a time machine that borrowed from the first “generative visuals” of liquid light shows and blended them with 21st century technology. Envisioning Chemistry: Chemical Garden II from Beauty of Science on Vimeo.
When a piece of metal salt is dropped in the solution of sodium silicate, a membrane of insoluble metal silicate is formed. Due to the osmotic pressure, water enters the membrane and breaks it, generating more insoluble membranes. This cycle repeats and the salt grows into all kinds of interesting forms. This film recorded the osmotic growth of 6 salts inside sodium silicate solution. The growth is so life-like, no wonder Stéphane Leduc thought it might have something to do with the mechanism life over 100 years ago.

Calligraphic Stylisation Learning with a Physiologically Plausible Model of Movement and Recurrent Neural Networks from enist on Vimeo.
Daniel Berio, Memo Akten, Frederic Fol Leymarie, Mick Grierson, Réjean Plamondon
We propose a computational framework to learn stylisation patterns from example drawings or writings, and then generate new trajectories that possess similar stylistic qualities. We particularly focus on the generation and stylisation of trajectories that are similar to the ones that can be seen in calligraphy and graffiti art. Our system is able to extract and learn dynamic and visual qualities from a small number of user defined examples which can be recorded with a digitiser device, such as a tablet, mouse or motion capture sensors. Our system is then able to transform new user drawn traces to be kinematically and stylistically similar to the training examples. We implement the system using a Recurrent Mixture Density Network (RMDN) combined with a representation given by the parameters of the Sigma Lognormal model, a physiologically plausible model of movement that has been shown to closely reproduce the velocity and trace of human handwriting gestures.
