On the trail...
Quilt top done! Yes the bottom left corner arcs in, I started there and I stopped when I saw it was doing that and started on the top corners and it fixed the problem. And the outer uneven edges will be fixed by adding strips to make it match the other side if it ends up a vastly different size. It’s big enough to cover the top of my queen sized bed sans border and other side so ample room to go around the Tshirt cutouts I have ready to lay out on the pattern I have planned for the other side.
Ever wonder about a Narnia where Lucy’s cordial runs dry? I did so my story has that trope. Snippet of Susan’s reunion with her siblings. Oh and a inspo picture of the damsel of this series, Prince Rilian.
If you wanna give it a read the link is below. :)

Can't help but giggle is my favorite genre
Here’s a hint about the newest chapter of my Narnia story.

I’d really love it if anyone would be willing to give some feedback on this series. Good, bad or otherwise. Concrit included if that’s what people are wanting to share but just want permission first. Chapter 14 is up of this Silver Chair set story and the adventure continues with some new faces to tag alongside Peepiceek the Leader of the Talking Mice.

This week finished both :
Apprentice to the Villain - what a twist with the ink, have book 2 lined up
And
The God of Endings - interesting book, have to say the grandfather is just awful, they never say what happened to grandma, Katherine is vile. Only thing I really wanted to see happen was a scene at the end where Leo gets to open his presents from Santa. I wouldn’t say it’s on my list of favorite books but I’m certainly glad I read it at least once it has some new takes on what happens post change into a Vampire.
So if anyone has read those and wants to share their thoughts I’d love to hear them. And if you’ve been doubting if they’re good reads I’d say they are both worth the read. The former more for a fun and funny vibe and the latter for a more melodrama skewed a bit more depressing with self loathing on top classic to Vampire genre.

Boötes and the Badger new chapter reminder.
Summary :
Camp Hither, summer camp, home of promised summers of bliss, too bad none of the kiddos go home again. Run by a staff that turn into snakes each night. Now every potion master worth their stuff knows shed hair of a Fallen Star make the base of any shape changing brew. How convenient Dr Crawler just so happens to have such a celestial child being raised at the camp. Too bad the town is starting to get suspicious. Solitary, never smiling, shimmering? But that began to change when chance brought her to a fair and a certain stuffed badger in her path. A badger that comes alive when alone with her to offer protection and teach this young Fallen Star of the mighty Lion calling her to a home she’s never known.
Chapter 16 is in progress and Puddleglum has entered the story! Only 13 chapters are edited and posted so far, off what I can tell about a few chapters in people had lost interest so I might just hold off posting lore till I have a good bulk of the story finished and polished up before bothering to hassle with all the chapter title making and finicky details that goes in posting.
Just ten chapters left on Beyond the Door of No Return by David Diop.
So far I can say it’s well written. There is a feeling that I get that it might have something lost in the translation. It has its moments to try to be scientific since the main guy is a Botanist and all, but it lacks the depth to the topic for my liking, then it swings to near purple prose, and then it swings to introspective monologues about the guy worrying about nearly every person he gets to know in Senegal being kidnapped and sold into slavery or how his being white will make them curse him and his race entirely afterwards.
The chapters are generally three to six pages and some of them it really doesn’t make sense to cut it that short when most of the chapter is just questions he’s asking himself inside his own head. Sad to say it comes across as a modern day liberal sent back in time mourning over the fact he’s white in the middle of slave trade era in Senegal, but I really do think that is from the issue of the vibe I get off the translation. And the guy suffers once so far in the whole book, and that’s a three day ordeal he’s unconscious for nearly all of it. There is very little horrors of the trade beyond implications in his monologues and internal worries and one chat where the main lady, in the memoirs, is sharing her story. So he has very little to be so glum about as far as what actually happens to him in the first 24 chapters at least.
There are some assumed spies, confirmed spies, a dumb moment where he wants to remove a horse’s saddle to look at it when they’re trying to hurry and leave a city. And again I think with the translation the issues with him listing after the main memoir lady just kind of make me cringe as it leans more towards paying too much mind to her race and features due to that in his lusting after her that is borderline troubling for me, but again I think in the original French it would be a less odd set of monologues, even though I don’t speak French but I really don’t think the book would be as highly spoken of if it wasn’t a translation issue for how poignant they say the writing is by the few review snippets on the cover.
Also there’s a line where he’s washing his clothes with a black eucalyptus bar of soap and the water turns the color of eggplant? I am so baffled, do they come in any other color but vivid purple? Or maybe it’s the inside color of white/tan? But then, why would he be disgusted by the color it turned to unless he’s just an idiot who doesn’t know soapy baths are often tan/white even sometimes when the soap is darker colors, all depends on what’s in the soap at the end of the day…
Overall I think it’s a good book I’m just not the target audience and for someone who vibes better with its style it would be excellent. So I’m wavering from a 3.5 to 4 out of 5 and the last ten chapters will give me the final rating on it.
But once I finish it only three more on my mystery book box to get reading before my next delivery in a couple weeks. :)
Finished it. Have to say like a sandwich the start and ending around the trip to Senegal bits are the best and have the most details to the scenes to make them seem more whole.
Going to try The God of Endings next and see how that goes I guess.
First mystery book box! Anyone read any of these?
The Twilight Zone 1.8 | Time Enough at Last
The Magician
*.*.*
Loki and oc are sprinting away from a noisy haphazard escape plan gone awry on this week’s adventure of choice. Loki is still clutching the trick knife he obtained from Oc’s pack earlier with a furious vice grip in his ever tightening fist.
“I still do not understand why you would have a trick knife in the first place!” He hissed at oc while rounding another corner to avoid being in the sights of the weapon wielding goons chasing them.
“I told you I was a Magician when we met!” Oc argued back.
“Precisely! A Magician should be properly armed at all times! Honestly who trained you? My Mother would have birthed kittens had I been caught-,” he began but oc elbowed him into a side hall to avoid a roughly hewn chunk of log being used like a boulder out of a rolling canon the goons broke out of its usual hiding place to keep invaders out of their secret base.
“I’m NOT that kind of Magician!” Oc huffed and turned as Loki did to inspect the dead end hallway they found themselves in with just a padlocked side door to keep them from breaking loose of this place. Next thing Loki flinched away from the door at a hatchet being flung at the lock that splits when contact is made. His jaw dropping as he sees Oc with a second hatchet in their other hand ready to use if need be. Foot now planted on the door of tugged the first hatchet loose and got to trying the knob.
“You have hatchets but no real dagger?!” He demanded to know.
“I throw hatchets as part of my act!” Oc, when the door didn’t give way at first shoulders through the rusty hinged wooden barrier and begins the trot out of this place with the Prince still hot on their heels.
“I truly believe you have not fully pondered the depths of the purpose of a Magician in this realm!” The Prince began to lecture only making Oc huff and sigh back, “Sound just like my guidance counselor…”
Ideas I’ve been mulling over for my Narnia story - (it’s set in the timeframe of the Silver Chair book)
-After Prince Rillian has come to his senses and changed into the clothes the rescue team brought for him they stole from his room he asks if they brought a sword for him as he no longer wants to use the one the Lady of the Green Kirtle gave to him. Oc has Damascus steel swords she has been engraving and decorating while learning to make swords. He sees she has one that has horses on it and is to commemorate Strawberry, Edmund’s steed Philip, Peter’s steed unicorn, Caspian’s steed Bree and Hwin. The prince has some moments of confusion and he questions her on why she would make a sword dedicated to horses when horses do not need swords. The talk dies down when the Centaur named Rune traveling with them compliments the blade and says the horses would be honored at the skill put into it. -this is mostly to possibly leave a hint she might have intended to offer it to Edmund since he never got a special sword from Santa and it wouldn’t be like one his brother could have. There’s a possible jealousy to build up for the prince on if oc could be gaining feelings for Edmund later on. -
The second sword he finds of her collection after he does not want one coated with horses is one he is surprised to find one with what he thinks to be his father’s name branded onto the leather braided hilt handle. He draws it and says with a grin he will use this one. He gets a better look unsheathing it and finds it’s a scene down the blade of his father’s horse speeding off alone rider-less and his father complete with head wound at 13 sprawled across the ground. The name on the hilt can now clearly be read as ‘Caspain’ and oc has to say she got through the scene before Trufflehunter pointed out she misspelled the name. It was the first Damascus steel sword she’d made that didn’t shatter on stress tests and she just hadn’t had the patience or nerve to try and mend the spelling error. Rillian fights to not laugh and sheaths the sword and accepts the sword honoring the pivotal moment when the reality of magic into his father’s life began with him being bashed in the head by a tree branch.
-Side note Damascus steel is mined in Narnia but no smith there can manage to make it yield to any use since the art once belonging to the centaurs was wiped out almost fully by the erasure of magical beings by Caspian’s uncle. Now there is one aged Centaur who can manage to make arrow heads and tries to pass on the skill to as many centaurs as she can hoping one may uncover the lost skill to bend the metal to their will and bring the skill back. Oc agrees to give their Damascus a shot post adventure and teaches Rune’s teenage son she’s good friends with to make his own sword to train with. Many Centaurs take turns learning from what oc knows about the metal and how to work it in a forge.
-the talking mice hearing the phrase “I’m just crackers about cheese” from oc they are curiously amused at in a conversation about offering fruit, cheese and crackers to their mousy band of warriors.
-While on the adventure the talking mice, centaur and prince are baffled at the cow shaped tent, it even has horns on it, oc has but Trufflehunter shares its enchanted to not be seen by others outside their travel party and is far more spacious inside than it seems. A nod at the magic internally expanded tents from HP.
-Oh and oc has a pop up ladder they use on the giant staircase on the broken bridge.
-Peter is married to a male Wood Dryad and there’s a magical way that they could have a child as the Dryad would sprout a bulb they could plant and oc trying not to chortle or snicker suggests they could make them a special pot when the day comes their little sprout could nestle into as a gift for the occasion. The dryad is touched and Edmund amongst others are losing it inside while Peter can’t help but laugh himself as he has in times alone of imagining his children would be little leafy buds he would have to spritz and keep in proper sunlight conditions until they were large enough to dig up like spiky grumpy potatoes as his husband has shared with him ages before.
-Oh also and there’s a fun bit where oc has to use her flying shark ship to have her, Rillian, Rune, Trufflehunter, Puddleglum, Peepiceek and other talking mice head to Romandu’s island to seek help in gathering more Ingredients to replace Lucy’s cordial when she’s been far too generous with it the past centuries and only had four drops left.
-that’s all for now but if anyone wants to hear more let me know. :)
The four chapter arc of the Mt Vesuvius eruption in my Brother Dearest series is up. If anyone who has some time to kill would feel up to it could you share your thoughts on it? It has a blend of the Greek deities getting up to some mischief during the eruption and the platoon Bunny and Eddie Brock/Venom are assigned to struggling to make it out intact.
I think the last four chapters have gotten about 15 hits collectively and I thought it might be fun enough to hear something. So if anyone has some time to kill and is up for some war flashback chaos I’d appreciate any feedback.
