Rest in peace, Rosemary Brown. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Brown (née Wedderburn) became the first Black Canadian to be elected to the provincial legislature in 1972, serving as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia for the next 14 years. She died on this date in 2003 at the age of 72.
