What are the themes of your behemoth story
there are behemoths (enormous telepathic animals) and the gatekeepers (humans that can communicate with them), each gatekeeper is generally linked to one pod/herd and it is a loosely hereditary trait that passes on when a gatekeeper dies. identifying factor is every hair on the gatekeepers’ bodies is white which is why i have so many white hair characters lol
there are a bunch of different kinds of behemoth deer, lions, fish, moths, etc. but Anatole who is the protagonist is linked to a pod of leviathans, which are flying whales. story starts with him abruptly inheriting the gatekeeper role when his older brother who he hadn’t seen in years is murdered by a group called chiron
gatekeepers and behemoths both have a pretty nasty berserk state that they risk entering into if they go too far from home/each other. recently there has been an atrophy effect that’s caused gatekeepers to go into this state more violently and more frequently and eventually permanently, so Anatole is working with the warlords (gatekeeper leaders) to try and work out a way to neutralize whatever is causing it
Sephtis who I’ve been talking about a fair amount is a member of chiron, & chiron is a group dedicated to protecting the public from the gatekeepers. this frequently involves assassinating said gatekeepers & their behemoths before they can start rampaging. as you can imagine they cause a number of complications for Anatole.
mostly story’s about the attempt to get around the uncontrollable berserk rages while also not getting murdered and preventing mass destruction via giant rampaging animals. its also about the languages of pain but we dont have time to unpack all that right now
