This February, Help Keep This Palestinian Family’s GoFundMe From Disappearing

Marah is a teenage girl trying to raise funds for the continued survival of herself and her family in Gaza. The resources available to them to take care of each other when they are sick, injured, and malnourished are all expensive in a war zone and Marah, her siblings, and her mother all rely on the funds that come from this campaign to take care of each other.

Unfortunately, Marah’s campaign has frequently fallen stagnant for long lengths of time. Even as she tirelessly reaches out to people on Twitter to share her story and what she and her family are going through, there are weeks where not a single donation comes in and with so much on the line and so much lost this is often incredibly discouraging. To document what she’s going through while it increasingly feels like it might be reaching no one is often incredibly discouraging.

I know right now there are a lot of people who need help, and as more people have turned to crowdfunding over the past year resources have become spread thin. I know choosing between who to support when you have finite resources to offer can feel paralyzing. But I also know that the seemingly small efforts add up to make a difference. they make a difference from everyone, and they can make a difference for everyone. And they can make a difference for Marah and her family, if we promise not to look away.

So this month what I am asking is for you to help me keep this campaign from falling back into days/weeks/months long stagnation. My goal is for every day to be a day with a donation. Even if you can’t donate, please share, please watch out for Marah’s campaign and follow whether she’s received support. On the days that go by where she receives none, please notice this. Please help other people notice this. The most important thing is that when people ask for help, we can hear them.

Hey guys. This was posted by my friend Mohammed Ayesh, who's the on-the-ground vetter for our list of verified fundraisers. Despite the horrifying situation, he maintains a smile. He has lost a lot of weight, something that saddens me to see.

What you don't see in this video is that behind the top of that hill, there were tanks. They might've been zionist occupation ones, they might've been American ones. Either way. There were tanks. And soon after they opened fire and rained hell on everyone, while the Ghazzawiyeh were gathered there to get bags of flour.

He described to me the terror that was in his heart as he ran away from this, praying to God asking Him to save him. He promised he would never go back to these again if God saved him. And he made it out alive. He might not have a choice though, he will likely have to go back if it means he can feed his family for a while.

Please. Help him. I don't know what else I can do besides plead for his case. Please help him.

The way tumblr users talk about racism makes it really obvious they learned about it from Harry Potter's muggle born wizards plotlind

This is to say, they take the same attitude JKR does: racism is wrong because it's factually incorrect on a pedantic level and not because it inherently places a certain group of people as inferior, a wrong belief to have no matter what.

For example, in the third Harry Potter, Hermoine gets called a slur by Draco. She goes to Hagrid, upset, and instead of saying Draco's wrong because he's bigoted and hateful, Hagrid starts talking pedantically. Not all muggle borns are inferior because Hermoine is academically gifted, and Neville, a pureblood, isn't. So therefore, racism is wrong! 👍🏾. Of course the implication is that if Hermoine wasn't good at school she'd deserve it..? And that's how tumblr users speak about racism.

My real world example is how some tumblr users tried to defend rap music by saying, not all of it is about drugs, sex and violence, so therefore it shouldn't be dismissed. But, what about the rap music that is about those things? Does that deserve to be belittled and mocked?

Astute observation as always. It's the subconscious belief that everything white is naturally superior because white people made it. While black art is naturally uncomfortable/hard to emphasise with because not only is it not white, it's black, and there's always an underlying sense of percieved aggression attached to blackness. For it to be liked, white people often project their own whiteness onto it (see things like how fandom treated Miles Morales after the Spiderverse movies). And when something, like rap music, does have an aggressive element to it, white people use that as an excuse to express discomfort while listening to heavy metal because white anger is the status quo and black anger is always a threat.

I didn't go far enough in describing the whitewashing as I'd like so here's my elaboration: fandom will often ignore a black character's aspects to their black culture and give them interests more aligned with white people (example: the fandom surrounding Tyler, the Creator's alter egos, where some of them lose their swag era fashion and get replaced with notoriously anti-black movements like (modern) scenemo), remove any "rough" edges to the black character to act "soft", tiktok softboi style (example: the woobification of Miles Morales), turning it into a big joke to laugh at and then call cringe (examples: Drake vs Kendrick rap beef, "brainrot" words that are just AAVE) or even just straight up ignoring the black context to music to fit their own white experiences (example: 'Wavy' by SZA being used by white girls to complain about not being blonde, the 'Black Barbies' by Nicki Minaj trend on tiktok being hijacked by insecure white girls, and ad nauseam).

This all just ties back into seeing black art as inferior and "fixing" what black art they deem just about good enough to be more white and ie more acceptable

what i think other tme people Know but try not to think abt bc it makes them feel guilty is that transmisogyny isnt *just* in the violent assault, the medical gatekeeping, the normalization of sexual harrassment and exploitation, but it is the way that transfems are systemically barred from literally any kind of support which is necessary to heal from these types of horrors because it is *uncomfortable* for people. & trans women understand this. like ive been through some serious shit in my life, but i have been extraordinarily blessed to have an excellent support system at every turn so i was able to internally heal from it. i havent always been pleasant or kind to be around, but i was given the opportunity to get better. BECAUSE IM TME trans women are across the board punished for reaching out for help, and/or outright barred from places or resources that would otherwise be able to help. this degree of exclusion has been shown through study after scientific study to be worse than the most brutal torture in terms of the effect it leaves on your mind. *every* trans woman you have ever met has experienced this. and she is supposed to get "better" (except not actually better at all, just more pleasant to be around) with no help from any outside source. so the next time a trans woman is "mean" or "scary" or "weird" remember that. and dont further fucking punish her for it. BARE MINIMUM. and if you want transfems in your queer spaces, or if you want transfems to live so future transfems have some kind of framework of how to deal with ☝️ all this, then dont just offer conditional fucking support. give her an opportunity to learn how to fucking live. because trans women deserve to thrive. hopefully youll listen bc so manu of you wont listen to trans women. but if youre at all moved by this GO LISTEN TO WHAT TRANS WOMEN HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THEIR OWN OPPRESSION.
