She didnât, but then, she also did.Â
No easy way to describe the way Nicolette was feeling â an inner turmoil and conflict sheâd never dealt with before. Especially not when dealing with Haneul. There had been a blinding trust between them, at least on her end, that made this so hard to believe.Â
âYeah, Iâm sure you find it hard to process.â
At this point, Nic wasnât even being sarcastic anymore. Sighing deeply, the wolf simply stared out the road at all of the places she used to pass by when she was still her own person, places she used to have fun in.
What sheâd done, she didnât regret. The good, the bad. Haneul. She didnât, fundamentally, regret any of it. Trying to kill that witch. âIâd do it again, you know.â the words had been uttered almost in a whisper, but the vampire sure could have heard them, fingernail tapping against the window glass â a nervous tick.Â
She was talking about all of it, not just what had been the ultimate catalyst to her downfall. Though, she didnât tell Han anything else. Nicolette wouldnât have changed a fucking thing, except maybe she wouldnât have made that call, she wouldnât have so blindly trusted him.Â
He didnât doubt her words. After knowing Nicolette for as long as he has and how close they had been, he knew well enough that he would be an idiot to think otherwise. If the clock could rewind, her steps would follow the same path. Funny how that had been something heâd loved so much about her: the ability to stick so strongly to her actions and words.
âI had my reasons, Nic.â
The words werenât uttered for her benefit. It was uttered to convince himself of his own actions. At the time, heâd had selfish reasons and there would be no chance to go back and change them. Although, that offered up the question as to whether or not he would do it differently. Would he have done the same or helped Nicolette?
Haneulâs scared to know the answer.
He pulled into the driveway of his home as he pressed the button to open the garage so he could park inside of it. Strange to think he hasnât had anyone else at his home since everything happened with Nicolette. It hadnât felt right and it took a very long time than heâd like to admit for him to clean up the mess heâd made of the home.
Unfortunately, heâs sure Nic wouldnât miss the number of missing pieces from his home.
âCome on, I need a drink,â Han muttered as he opened up the car door and got out, shutting it behind him. With the garage door shut, he opened the door into the house, walking down the hall and straight into the kitchen.
