Sometimes I find suprisingly nic(h)e magazines at my national chain bookstore, like this one: perdiz.
A bilingual magazine (spanish/english) about people and the things that make them happy. “Happiness is contagious” reads the tagline and I definitely felt that: I could not help smiling when reading about people and their passion. My favorite story in this issue was about an architect who turned beekeeper, to fight bee decline.
After strolling around the city, I decided to sit down for a drink+bite at Toki. Good coffee, delicious cake AND magazines; this place has it all.
I accompanied my stay with a copy of Gather journal, a magazine with recipes and great art direction. (as you may have noticed, I like to eat and read :ello:)
I already use the Gather app for recipes, but I never took the time to read the actual printed magazine. Every issue covers a certain theme, with recipes inspired by it. This issue's theme is 'origin', inspired by a visit to the museum of Natural History. Expect cakes, stews and desserts that have the likelyness of rocks, fossils or crystals! I liked the nut-filled chocolate rockslab: I bet it tastes as good as it looks.
Two saturdays ago I put up a small blêdzje magazine stand at Plunje, a vintage and second hand clothing market.
To make room for some new titles, I decided to sell a few from my collection. The small selection included Yen, stella, Pup mag and The Last Magazine among others.
For fans of cereal magazine: http://readcereal.com/reader-survey-2016/ A survey for their readers. After completion you get a 20% discount code, to spent in their shop. Just in time for issue 11!

Pet People issue 2 A small read about people and their pet(s). This is the Berlin issue. As a person who has an animal companion, I can relate to how these people talk about their pets. A magazine that relies more on photography than words, you can see and feel their love and appreciation towards the animals they regard as more than just ‘a pet’. With a cameo from Dexter the french bulldog, who I got to look after last weekend.
Apartamento issue 16 Another one of my ‘blind buys’. What got me into this magazine was mainly due to the columns that are found on the first few pages. I liked how they sparked my imagination. And ofcourse: the interiors. Wonderful photos and the magazine itself is beautifully consistent, every time. If you don’t know Apartamento yet, get a copy.
This is Paper issue 3
My read on the plane to Budapest! Issue 3 from Polish brand This Is Paper. They sell handmade backpacks and gear like woollen hats and slippers. This issue is smaller than the first two. They adjusted the size of the magazine, but it still is just as charming and honest. They tackle subjects about design, architecture and mostly personal stories from makers; both local and international.
I’m a big fan: both their magazine and products are worth checking out..
Frankie issue 58
With life advice from John Waters <3
Popeye issue 825 My birthday present came in the mail this weekend.
Although I never heard of this magazine, it is celebrating it’s 40th anniversary this year. The magazine is aimed at men, this anniversay issue is especially for ‘city girls’.
The Happy Reader issue 5
My read on the train today. One of my ‘blind buys’. A short but good mag, easy to bring along for short commutes. A collaboration between Penguin Books and Fantastic Man, first half is an interview and second part revolves around a book that is introduced every season.
neptún issue 1 I fell in love with this magazine at Facing Pages, an independent magazine biennale (rip).
