Waiting for Ren to come to bed.
note: It was 2 am and I realized how concerningly scarce Akiren fics are. My desperate ass decided to pull this out real quick using notes, and I felt like sharing it here.
Please expect some grammar mistakes!! cuz;
1. I am not a writer!!!!!!!!! What the hell are the 5 senses? metaphors? alliterations? similes?
2. I was half conscious while making this
3. I suck at English
But do I hope this short writing can bring someone a bit of joy (especially if you're as desperate as I am)

"Y/n?"ย
You can subtly hear the creak of your door, followed by some slow footsteps coming toward you. You move under your thick blanket, enough to give Ren the idea that you are yet to fall asleep. Even from beneath your comforter, you can subtly see the boy's shadow slowly looming over you, before you feel your bed sinking into a weight that's been placed on the edge of the mattress.
"How long have you been awake, for?" His voice calls out. With a silent, tired exhale, you pull your blanket a little to reveal your eyesโpeeking from beneath your little cocoon of warmth. Your blurry vision darts from the digital clock behind Ren, currently showing 1:41โbefore finally meeting Ren's own steady eyes. "1 hour 41 minutes since I hit the pillows. I think."
You then open your blanket with your arm, revealing your previously hidden body to the cold of the nightโa silent offer for Ren to join in. Ren chuckles a little, before shoving his body further into the centre of the bed.ย
"Are you unable to sleep, or were you just waiting for me?" Ren smirks as he lays his head on top of the fluffy pillow that was previously occupied by the one and only you. Ren can feel the warmth of the bed caressing his skin as he pulls himself close to you, his radiating body heat immediately replacing the biting cold air that was hitting you.
"Donโt be too over yourself. But I sure do appreciate your concern over me," you deny his teasing with a scoff. Well, most of the time, it would be the former. Right now though, it's a bit of bothโbut you won't say that out loud, or else you're gonna stroke that infuriating ego of him. "I have no idea what kind of work urges you to stay in the living room for almost 2 hours instead of being all warm under this very comfortable bed that is mine."
Ren pulls the blanket back to cover your shoulders. His fingers linger for a second on your skin, before trailing down to your torso, hooking his arm around your waist. How is he still so warm even after he's been outside for hours? You automatically raise your hand to his headโfingers trailing from his neck, to his nape, then to his hair as you tangle your fingers in his dark curls.
You can practically feel the pleasant shiver originating from Ren's body as he hums at the feeling, before muttering out, "It's not like I wanted to pick work over thisโvery comfortable bed that is yours." Ren nudges his forehead against the crook of your neck, before burying himself into your skin. "But I'm very eager to replace those 2 lost hours now."
"You're going to be here 2 hours past your morning routine, then."
"Who's going to make you breakfast, then?" Ren pulls back from your neck to stare at you has he quirks his lips up.
You refuse to lose. "You don't need breakfast when you're not awake. Do you?"
"M'not hearing that from someone who'd be dead until 12 if I were not there to wake them up."
"So? Breakfast is only for anomalies who wake up at an anomalistic hour."
"...."
The two of you stare at each otherโuntil the silence can no longer contain the mutual urge to laugh. As Ren's laughter dies down, his arm tightens around your body as he tucks his chin on top of your head. "We're not going to sleep if I keep dealing with you."
"A long-term problem, since you decided to dedicate your daily life to dealing with me." You let out a breathless chuckle, your fingers curling further in his hair. "But consider me being merciful tonight. Good night, Ren."
Ren let out a mock scoff. But even from his puff of breath, you can hear the frizzy hair's attempt at annoyance getting distorted by his own amusement. "Good night, Y/n. Don't dream of me while you're asleep."ย
like we all know Akiren is quiet and a little more on the cool side but what about with someone he canโt even compete withโฆ
he eventually enlists the help of his friends at Shujin but lowk they make everything worse
genuinely so embarrassing for him because why is Ryuji painting Akiren as a pick me boy while trying to wingman for him
I love crack + fluff fics.
You don't love me (yes I do), you don't want me (yes I do)

Synopsis: you were calm, you were relaxed, you were infuriating. How do you not see how much he likes you? Even when his friends (that he loves so much) make it painfully obvious. Don't get him wrong, you feel the same, if not, much more than he was. You were just better at hiding it. Oh and he has supernatural powers, I guess.
Genre: crack, fluff
Cw: Ren usage. I'm not nonchalant so, not sure how well I portrayed us. Very slight Morgana slander. Original palace but only briefly mentioned. Mention of drugs. Banter.
Wc: 4.2k
D/O/B = your date of birth.
"Shit man, I think they saw us."
Skull's panicked whisper flew from one ear to another. A sack of Madarame's treasure swung over his shoulders. Joker landed on his feet as him and the rest of the Phantom Thieves warped back into the real world.
If it weren't for Skull's comment, he wouldn't've realised the way you were staring at him and his friends appear out of thin air. He paused in a panic, only for a second. Before grabbing his school bag and walking out of plain sight. He'll deal with you later.
Whatever he thought you were thinking at that moment, boy was he wrong.
You couldn't care less at the way three four masked people just appeared out of the wall, or how the black haired one looked a lot like the boy in your class that you barely spoke to.
There are many unexplainable things, and unless they bother you directly, honestly, why would you care? Something supernatural just happened? Well, are they people from some eldritch horror movie? Doesn't look like it, so why bother?
You made your way to the train station, hoping not to run into them again, but if you did, you'd only hope they didn't bother you too much.
Oh they bothered you, they bothered you alright. They bothered you because of how unbothered you were.
Ren watched you carefully, trying to notice if you looked at him weirdly, if your eyes lingered a little too long on his face, or the tuff of hair that was strangely familiar to the masked thief with a black coat that you saw.
But you didn't. In fact, it was quite the opposite. You didn't even spare a glance his way. You just entered the classroom, and sat at your desk. Your head didn't lower when you walked past him, your eyes didn't fidget from him to around the room. You just kept a simple, unbothered, expression.
Was this a tactic? He thought.
The only person who would act the same way you were, was... well-- him.
Were you just as relaxed as he was? He recalled the way he moved around his daily life the moment he unlocked his persona-- like usual. Like he didn't just have the power to control people's minds in his hands. Were you just like him?
"I don't think they saw us clearly." The small, nasally voice drifted his attention to his school back in his desk. The cat's small, blue eye peeking through the zipper. "It should be fine, just focus on Madarame, he should have a change of heart this week.
Ren didn't reply, he only gave the cat a swift nod in agreement. Reaching for his notebook as the teacher walked in.
You were sat a few seats next to him. Headphone on one ear, a hand rested on top your other. Your eyes lazily following the scroll of your thumb on whatever tag was trending on social media right now. Ignoring the world around you.
Until a voice; too loud for your comfort, pierced through the music that was playing through your earphones. You glanced around, it was a voice you weren't familiar with, childish, almost like a twelve year old boy. The only person that was (supposed to) be speaking right now was Ms. Kawakami.
You looked around, until your eyes landed on the quiet boy sat near the window. His head lowered to his bag-- which was slightly ajar--
Was he calling someone? Oh who cares, it was his own business.
You were about to return to what you were previously doing, until the conversation that the boy was having caught your attention.
"We need to find a better spot to go to the Metaverse, the student that saw us might start to get suspicious."
So he was the masked man, then does that mean the twelve year old boy was.. one of them? It was more interesting than anything.
You looked back at the teacher, discreetly placing your earphones back into your ear. It wasn't that you didn't care, you just.. well, what could you do? If they tried to hurt you for secrecy then so be it. For now, you didn't have much to physically do about it. Let them do their thing.
It's been a little over week from that whole interaction. Or lack thereof. You acted how you usually did; go to class, mind your own business. Go to lunch, mind your own business. Go home, mind your own business.
Though lately you couldn't help but shake the feeling that you were being watched. Not in some paranoid, paranormal way, but in a way that.. a bunch of inexperienced teenagers were doing. You were being spied. Probably by the Phantom Thieves that you heard about on the news. Since two out of the four of them knew that you knew.
You tried to ignore it. Something you've been good at since the interaction. You only felt it at school. Or every time you passed by Shibuya Station. You've been stared at a couple of times, sometimes by your classmates that would call you names. Names for never showing a reaction, or any emotions. People think you don't feel-- you do-- you just don't see the point in showing it.
Ren felt his eye twitch. The loud sounds of his friends yelling was giving him a headache.
"We don't know what they're going to do with what they saw!" Ann yelled at Ryuji.
"Oh c'monn, it's not like they know that it's all of us!" Ryuji yelled at Ann.
"They know it's Ren." Morgana said from the floor.
"I have been doing my research, by observing their actions through day-to-day life, it seems that they are very blasรฉ." Yusuke told the group, hands waving with every syllable.
"What the hell's that s'pposed to mean??" Ryuji yelled once again.
"They don't care." Ren's voice fell flat, flatter than his usual tone. Everyone's chatter died down.
"Yes." Yusuke nodded.
"Don't care?"
Ren nods along with Yusuke.
"They're in my class, they don't do much." Ren recalls the way you seemed so disconnected from interactions in the classroom. You would only stick to your small number of friends (two).
"Well, yeah but, how do we know they won't say anything to school prez? I mean, she's like, super scary!" Ryuji looked way too serious with the thought that he just shared.
"We will have to discuss matters with them, it seems."
"Ren, you do it!" The chatter started to ignite again, agreeing with the sentiment. "Yeah! They're kinda scary, it's like they're that one kid in the back of the class that's like, an emo."
Ann rolled her eyes, "they don't even sit in the back of the class!"
Ren sighs, blinking once. "Okay." He says, plain and simple. No use arguing now. Besides, he was the one that you actually saw.
"Excuse me." Ren's voice caught your attention, you pulled back your headphones and looked up from your laptop. You didn't respond, just looked at him, exspectingly.
"Can we talk somewhere else? There's something I think we should both discuss."
You didn't react to that either, setting your headphones and laptop aside back into your bag. Picking it up and following him out of the library. You already knew what this was going to be about, and you were curious to see how it would play out.
The both of you stood on the school's rooftop. Your hands in your pocket. Damn, you beat him to it.
You waited for him to start, which, admittedly wasn't what he was used to. He was much more used to people talking out of their minds.
"You saw something in the alleyway near the school." He said it like a statement. Rather than a question. You nodded, your face was kept plain and unwavering.
"You appeared out of the wall." You say flatly, though it was like a joke.
He paused for a while. You saw something fairly supernatural, and yet you were so calm about it.
"Well-- what are you planning to do with what you saw?"
You shrugged, "nothing." Your shoulders went back to the slumped posture you were in the entire time. He seemed taken aback, eyes widening only slightly.
The voice that you heard a while ago came back, from his bag, no less. "Do they know we're a Phantom Thief?"
"Sorta kinda." You responded without thinking. This time, Ren truly did seem surprised, he took a step back unconsciously. Eyes wide.
You stared at him, unsure why he was acting so weird. That was until a cat peeked out of the bag on his shoulder.
"You can understand me?" He asked. You nodded.
"I don't care that you're a Phantom Thief." You started. "Are you guys the ones causing the mental shutdowns?"
"No!" The cat seemed to hiss almost immediately.
"Okay." You said plainly. The three of you fell into silence, before Ren started again.
"You're a persona user."
You looked at him, confusion going in and out of your head. "What's that?"
"You.." he wasn't sure how to explain it, Ann, Ryuji, and Yusuke were put right into the Metaverse, it was easier to explain then. Right now telling someone without much evidence. A lot harder than he would've liked. "A persona user is someone who has to power to go into people's hearts and change their desires." A bit difficult to understand, he'd admit.
What he didn't understand was the way you just shrugged, again. Something even someone like him didn't expect. Would he have acted like that as well if he were in your position?
"Cool." You said plainly, honestly, what were you supposed to say? What would you do with this new information? Not much, you'd think.
"Have you received your arcana yet?"
Man, whatever that cat was talking about, you didn't understand a single thing. You stared at the small creature, still peeking his head through the bag.
"I'm guessing not." Ren says disappointedly. "This might be a problem." How was he supposed to invite you to become a Phantom Thief if you yourself, haven't awakened your true self. Not like he was going to.. kinda.
You shrugged again, it seemed like it was the only thing you knew how to do. The conversation fell into a silence once again, Ren's arms were folded over his torso, one arm was placed straight on his other, finger on his chin as he was deep in thought.
"I'm hungry." You declare, unsure what to do with the difficult silence that was surrounding the two (three) of you. Spinning on your heel, making your way towards the exit. "Let's go get ramen."
It wasn't much of an invite, it was more of a statement. You initially planned to go alone, but, he was already there, so you might as well have asked him. And just like you, he shrugged, hands in his pockets, while he tries to keep up with your pace.
There was very minimal conversation during the ride there, and the entire time you were waiting for the food, and the entire time you ate it. It wasn't like he was sitting with a brick wall, or an empty shell of a person either. It was more so he was sitting in a comfortable silence.
It seems like that was the effect you had on people. You were considered as the kind of person that people sit with when they were out of energy. Because you didn't ask too much. You didn't ask at all, actually.
Right now, he was experiencing some sort of opposite with what usual people feel with you. Usually, it was either they enjoy your silence, or they think it's weird. Ren however, he's a mix of both of those feelings. Because how come you were so.. careless? You were just told you have fairly eldritch powers, and yet you were slurping up your noddles without a care in the world.
"How are you taking the news?"He asked you, pushing his glasses up with the back of his finger, his chopsticks resting idly on his other hand. You look up at him through your lashes, biting off the strands of noodle back into the bowl. "What news?" You asked, hands grabbing your tissue to cover your mouth while you spoke.
You really are something else, aren't you.
"You're a persona user."
"Oh yeah." You resume eating. Face void of any expression, a blank canvas. "It's pretty cool, I guess."
"Would it be a good idea to invite them as a Phantom Thief?" Yusuke sat in the inner booth of Cafe LeBlanc. Ren called a meeting the next day.
"We still don't know if this is actually their true intentions. If they truly are unbothered by their newfound powers." Morgana said from the table, his eyes still weary of you.
"Let's just ask 'em!" Ryuji's arms were extended on either side of his body. Resting on the back of the sofa chair.
"You idiot!" Ann said from beside him. "What if they're like, collecting evidence or something just waiting for the opportunity to report us!?"
"Let's do it." Ren's voice cracked through the table. His tone sure. "I doubt they're planning anything nefarious."
"How are you so sure?"
Good question, how is he so sure? Perhaps it was just how you acted in front of him, or perhaps it was how he didn't see a tinge of worry or.. anything for that matter when he told you about the whole ordeal.
"I just do." He says, mysterious, isn't he.
"What, you like 'em or somethin'?" Ryuji laughs out.
Ren pauses ever so slightly, mouth parted slightly. Did he? He wouldn't say he likes you, fascinated is a good word. You mirrored him in a way, maybe someone like him in the team would get things in order.
"Wait a damn minute.." Ryuji's eyes narrows, squinting hard at the black haired boy in front of him. The smile on his face fading slowly. "Holy shit! You do like them, don't you?"
Ren's mind stuttered, "no," he says before he could even think about it.
"Damn, you like mysterious people like that, Ren?" Ann snickers behind her hand.
He does, he truly does. He finds amusement in people that are a mystery. Like he needs to solve a puzzle to figure them out. You were one of them, obviously. Maybe a little more approachable than say, Akechi.
"I empathise with you, Ren." Yusuke starts, "out lack of information about them sparks curiosity and intrigue from out dear leader, and I suspect, from the rest of us as well."
Ren tried his best not to roll his eyes. He knew Yusuke was right though. Because that's the problem; he knows nothing about you. And he feels like there's this gravitational pull that makes him want to figure out more. Pick apart your brain and study you. Not in a weird way! He's just curious.
"Well then," Ann stood up abruptly. "We'll just have to get Ren closer to them." She says decidedly. Earning teasing uproars of agreements from the friends around her.
The only thing Ren could do was sigh. "Sure," he says defeatedly, sliding his hands back into his pockets and resting on the back of the sofa chair. Ignoring the way his cheeks had a pink tint. Or the way his chest started beating faster in anticipation.
It was a very bad idea, letting his friends be in charge of getting closer to you. He thought they were only joking, but oh my god they weren't.
It started off a small. Ann trying her best to subtly slide beside your desk while you were focused on your homework. "Say Y/n.." she'd look at him expectingly, "would you want to hang out with Ren and I after school?" She expected you to ask her why. Because we think you're super cool! She planned to say (she wasn't really good at this). Instead, you only responded with a plain "sure." You didn't even look up at her.
And don't even get him started with when you actually went to hang out with them. She was stuttering up a storm. Embarrassing him like crazy.
"So uh, when's your birthday? I'm only asking becau--"
"D/O/B."
"Well.. what about your favourite subject?"
"I don't have one."
"Favourite food?"
"Anything that tastes good."
She groaned, shoulders that were once broad in confidence now slumped down in annoyance.
"Would you like to be a Phantom Thief?" Ren asked you, he didn't plan on asking you so suddenly, but he might as well make the conversation interesting.
You became a Phantom Thief without even thinking about it. Your weekends were now filled with group meetings and disarraying transformations to the Metaverse.
Though, much to Morgana's disappointment, you actually haven't awakened you Persona yet, you still need a palace to infiltrate. Some revelation to make you take off your mask. You had your fair share of Mementos missions. Usually you'd be placed on the back of the Morgana van. Helping the others with maps, directions, and where exactly the shadows are placed.
Ryuji-- bless his heart-- would just not shut the fuck up whenever you were sat beside him. "Say, did you know that Joker is like, suuuper smart?" Ryuji, please, for his own sanity. Shut up.
"Did you know when he awakened Arsenรฉ there was like, a blue flame and shit?" Ryuji was so bad at buttering people up.
"He has an artistic eye, during Madarame's palace, he had a keen vision for which painting was an impostor." At the very least, Yusuke's words flew eloquently with each sentence.
"Yeah! And also like, do you see how he's driving right now? He's the only one of us who can drive!"
The way you would only respond with a "cool" or a "nice" made him much more nervous. Everyone was screwing up, oh dear.
When you awakened your Persona, it wasn't like anything he was expecting. Someone you held very dear to you, had turned out to only be taking advantage of you. Your careless personality made them manipulate you to do what they want. You were none the wiser. How would you have known that they were organising one of the most biggest and prolific drug leaders of Japan? You didn't.
You didn't expect it to hurt that much. It was like you brain was being torn apart and shook around in your skull.
Ever since then, there was a shift. Not too obvious, but enough that he noticed. You started to be more.. violent when attacking shadows, for a lack of a better word. He wasn't all too dumb, he could only assume that all of your emotions had been bubbling up for a bit, eventually overspilling. Though when you came to, you'd return to your unbothered personality with the rest of your team. As if you didn't just slam a shadow with all your might.
Frustratingly enough, it only changed how you acted in battle. It didn't make you open up. The most he's ever gotten was the three sentence explanation about the palace ruler. The palace ruler that took advantage of your kindness to them, the palace ruler that saw you as a tool the entire time you knew them. And yet you still spoke about it like you didn't care too much. At this point, it was like he was pissed of for you.
It's been a while since you've joined their team. So long that Makoto had joined. She was quickly let in about Ren's little crush on you.
"Are you certain you are attracted to them?" She asked him. That question really made him think. The both of you had shared a few quiet moments. Whether it's him offering you the other side of his umbrella, or when he would defend you from Akechi's passive aggressive comments about your carelessness. Or the way you and him would go to a different restaurant every fortnight, much like it's become a routine.
He was perfectly content with the way the both of you wouldn't speak too much during those moments. If that's what you're comfortable with, they he's more than happy to oblige.
But god, it would really be nice if the both of you had something more to talk about.
It was a very bad idea for him to confide in the rest of the team. Even with Makoto, the school president, with their brains combined, it was very difficult trying to get him closer to someone like you.
Ryuji (because of course it was Ryuji), slumped his arm over your shoulders playfully, "yo, Y/n. Why don'tya help Ren out at LeBlanc? Sojiro kinda got pissed at him for how much of a bad boy he is!"
Kill me now, Ren thought what he wished he could say. But maybe it wasn't too bad after all, what with the way he saw how your lips twitched ever so slightly at him when you heard how "Ren rode off on his motorcycle in the middle of the night."
"He doesn't have a motorcycle." You state plainly.
"Uhhhhh," Ryuji froze up,
"Morgana can become many vehicles." Makoto came in clutch, a shitty excuse, but better than whatever Ryuji was about to cook up.
Was he slowly becoming more delusional? Was he hallucinating when he could see the slight show of emotion when he did something particularly funny. Was he thinking too much into it when you offered to help him stock up on the curry and coffee a little too eagerly? Was he thinking too much into it when you decided that you had enough of whatever weird rants Okumura would be having about him that you decided to send a passive aggressive comment his way.
What about when you initiated the conversation when you were out on one of your fortnightly hang outs? There were so many signs that he was hoping was exactly what he thinks it is.
You were waiting for your friend to finish their basketball practice. You were scrolling on your phone, barely paying attention to the world around you. Nothing was quite worth your attention right now.
You sent a few texts to the group chat, before you gaze lingered on a contact for too long. Ren's contact. Saved (annoyingly so) as 'Ren Amamiya.'
A preview of his last text being a simple 'Ren reacted to your message." Something as simple as that was clouding your mind ever since yesterday. You weren't stupid, you knew he took a liking to you. And you were admittedly starting to like him as well. All of the weird attempts the rest of your friends would make to make him appear cooler. You didn't mind them, they were actually kinda funny, seeing them stumble around. You had a good judgement of people, and you only saw him as how you saw him. Without being too clouded with what the others had to say.
The hard part was trying to show that. Showing your reciprocation to him was so difficult, you didn't even know why. You were aware about your struggles to show your emotions, that's why he was fascinated about you. So actually trying to show them was worse than just straight up telling him.
You caught a glimpse of his curly hair tucked deep in the proclaimed 'hang out' spot by the school's vending machines. Your other friends were there; the loud blonde girl, the loud blonde guy, the shy garden girl, the nosy cat, and sat on the bench, was him. Surrounded by the aforementioned group of misfits. You could only assume they were discussing you. It seems like that's what they talk about lately. They weren't really good at hiding it, per se.
After a few moments, you stood up, making your way to the boy. You slowed down for a bit, waiting for the rest of your friends to pay attention at something else. You tapped him on the back, motioning your hand to a quieter part of the school.
He looked at you, waiting for you to start. He always did that, like he knew what it was doing to you every time.
"I- " you stuttered, shit man, this never happened before.
"You okay?" He asked, now concerned. He has a soft heart, always checking up on your wellbeing, every time he did, it was like a pull. You nodded, recollecting your breaths.
Just do this quickly, Y/n.
"I like you, let's go on a date." You planned to make it sound a bit more sincere, but the way your tone landed flat made you mentally facepalm.
He looked taken aback. Not saying anything for a few seconds that seemed like hours.
Shit, were you wrong with thinking that he liked you? He wasn't too hard to read, but he had a wall on his face much like you, maybe you weren't good with reading people like you thought you were.
Shit man, you really didn't want to lose this guy, he's cool. Usually you couldn't give two shits if someone would reject you, it was painfully easy moving on and forgetting about them. But this guy, made you feel pretty normal.
"I'd love to."
I guess you were right after all.
A/n: I freaking love when reader is nonchalant, but I freaking hate how I'm not, so I have no idea how to write it.
I know the request was mostly crack and fluff, and I fear I've made it a bit too deep.
