wrt the latest chapter, I kind of wonder if the Sage’s brother was an Uzumaki. We know the Senju and Uzumaki are distantly related (this could make the Uchiha and the Uzumaki distant relations too tho so idk)…in any case, I feel like the connection acknowledged between the two could be similar to the connection between the Uchiha and the Hyuuga. or something.

In any case, as my friend renaerys pointed out, Kaguya looks a great deal like the demon that appears during the Reaper Death Seal, an Uzumaki creation. For more on all the mysterious aspects of the Uzumaki clan and how they might tie into the plot, I suggest reading this amazing ongoing meta series.

I’d also like to take the opportunity to defend Kishi’s decision to make Naruto Ashura’s reincarnation. I’m curious as to the nuances of this conversation in the original Japanese, because I could tell that a lot of it didn’t translate well based on Naruto’s reactions - I’m willing to bet the reason he was so confused by the Sage’s manner of speaking was because he was switching between ancient and more modern grammatical structures in Japanese (like the way Rukia sometimes spoke funny in Bleach and irritated Ichigo). So I wonder if “reincarnation” is meant in the traditional sense, as it seems to be implied that what Naruto has inherited is the flow of Ashura’s chakra - very similar to the actual biological phenomenon of memory being passed down by generation, and a potent symbol of the inheritance of the will and convictions of previous generations - and a chance, this time, to make good on their promises. Not to repeat the actions of previous generations, but to surpass them, because reincarnation or not, Naruto is his own person. This doesn’t take away from Naruto’s underdog status - we always knew he had special chakra but it was his strength of will that got him where he is today, and special chakra or no, he would have remained unremarkable and impotent if not for his personal choice to never say die.
