Hello everyone! It’s been a hot minute.

This isn’t a return to cosplay as much as a season’s greetings: I haven’t cosplayed for well over a year at this point (and I haven’t been in body paint for even longer) but Cats halloween costumes seemed like an appropriate level of commitment. Figures that 2020 would be the year that I learned to appreciate Cats of all fucking things.

Anyway, I re-designed Mr. Mistoffelees and the Rum Tum Tugger to fit me and the roommate. if you want to keep up with what I’m doing these days, I have a portfolio instagram [link]. I also post to my personal (@skeppsbrott) every so often.

I have a deadline in 36 hrs but here are some photos I never uploaded from NärCon! This guy was a blast to make and wear and I could spend so much time talking about it but I won’t. I’m very proud to say that the only thing in the photos I didn’t make from scratch (ha) are the shoes.

Some shots of the finished styling of my Merle wig + facial hair.

There’s a handful of grey weft pieces sewn into it to give it that graying appearance, as well as some tied into the lace. The beard was the front of a separate wig of the same tone, meaning I already had a good third of it tied. Beard and moustache were backcombed to give them that rough texture.

It’s still technically March?

So, uh, yeah. March Cronus has been on my list for like three years at this point. I costested him last year, but for a billion different reasons I never got around to making a full cosplay. Not feeling comfortable with that kind of crossdressing, not having a proper design, not having the money… My biggest qualm was the 1950′s cone bra, because honestly I don’t know nearly enough about bras to want to splurge that kind of money for some actual vintage lingerie. Surprisingly, they’re pretty easy to make (same for the padding).

I very rarely make cosplays from scratch, so managing to make this entire thing all on my own felt like a major accomplishment. It’s also the first time I sew pants that aren’t sweats, so that was less fun but also very rewarding.

Taking the photos on my own, though? Whole ‘nother beast. But I guess it’ll be easier to do next time around.

Was this the only reason I wanted to do this cosplay? Absolutely not. With that said, NärCon Vinter holds a special place in my heart. It was my first con as an out Homestuck back in the day, the first time I did a proper cosplay. It was a lovely con experience that laid the groundwork for a lot of the things I do, the friends I have, and the methods I use to this day.

I was harsh about it at the time, but for a first time cosplay, I look back at it pretty fondly.
