(I will be using fake names so if they sound dumb thatās why)
I started a new job about 2 weeks ago with my best friend. Itās a movie theatre which is super fun and most of my coworkers are very close in age to her and I. Iāve started getting along with a couple of them and me and my friend have started hanging out with a group of 3 others outside work and during shifts. For context thereās my best friend Olive, two girls named Lily and Annie, and a guy named Luke whoās 4 years older than me and 3 years older than my best friend.
Olive started liking Luke when they first had a shift together, she would tell me how cute he is (despite him being a little weird) and would talk about how she really likes him even though they just met. She also told this to Lily. Around a week later I have a shift with Luke and Annie, Luke and I have the same break time but Annie has her break around 30 minutes after us, she wants a burrito so me and Luke drive to a burrito place and get burritos for all of us.. as I was in his car he kept flirting with me and I noticed him asking me so many questions, and standing a bit too close when we were ordering. He teased me a bunch when I told him about how I burnt my finger on my first day of the job, and kept saying āyou poor thingā or āaw you poor girlā (Like yes but not you pls). Anyways we get the burritos and go back to work, eating them together and leaving the other for Annie when sheās on break. Maybe 2 days later I get invited to a party, I bring olive with me and it ended up being super lame until surprisingly Lily, Annie, and Luke show up. It was super fun but he kept making moves on me, teasing me the whole time and afterwards when we were leaving the party I said it was kinda lame and that I was sorry they went out of their way to come.. he whispered to me āIād go to any lame party if you were thereā ā¦
Anyways, I talked to lily later that night who got a ride with Luke since she drank a bit too much. She told me he asked her to talk to me about āsoft launching the ideaā of us being together. I got hints he liked me before, but having that confirmed felt so odd. I told her I wasnāt interested and that we have to make a plan to get him to start talking to Olive more, as sheās my best friend who likes him.. and he likes me.
Unfortunately this story still hasnāt ended yet and Iām now in a super uncomfortable position where I have to act like I donāt know he likes me, and still try to get them together more often so he can see how amazing she is. She doesnāt know he likes me, and I feel awful not telling her. But I donāt want to hurt her feelings by telling her he does, and even if I did - what would happen next? Itās not like I like him. She would just give up on that and then he would continue trying with me and Iād still deny it.
If anyone has any recommendations to reroute him towards Olive let me know! And hopefully some people actually read this and enjoy my first rant/story. Not sure exactly what this account will be yet.. but nonetheless thanks for being here :)
