ok but zagreus doesn't know there are fruits that aren't sour. he's had pomegranates, he's had wine, but he's never had like... red apples or bananas. if persephone got more fruit to grow in the garden, and zag had maybe like a mango??? or something??? he would go fucking nuts. he would genuinely think it was the most incredible thing he has ever had.

but he is also the same way about modern day fast food. the way to his heart? bake him some cookies or give him a caramel apple.

tldr any time zag tries a new food he's obsessed. boy just loves food.

i don't know about yall but i think a lot about how dusa is treated by most of the residents of the house vs how meg and zag treat her and in this house we love dusa.

zag always risks getting her in trouble by talking to her but he also doesn't want her to feel like she's just replaceable staff, he wants her to know she's appreciated and valued, and if any of his family were to try and punish her for speaking with him, provided he's there when it happens, he would absolutely defend her tooth and nail. unfortunately... he usually isn't there when she gets in trouble, which is a lot of why there always tends to be a little rift between the two of them. due to his own duties, it simply isn't possible for him to always be there to defend her. u_u

ZAGREUS REALLY IS NO STRANGER   to   sadness   and   depression,   honestly.   regardless   of   how   polite   and   kept-together   he   seems   to   come   across   at   first   glance,   he's   rather   eaten   up   by   a   lot   of   aspects   of   his   younger   years,   regardless   of   his   status   as   a   god   and   the   promise   of   time   enough   to   heal   his   past   wounds.   he   handles   them   well   enough   to   keep   them   largely   hidden   from   those   who   would   have   enough   concern   to   comment   on   it   if   it   was   shown,   but   handles   them   poor   enough   that   they   seem   to   plague   him,   like   a   dark   cloud   that   follows   him   around   every   corner,   no   matter   how   hard   he   may   fight   to   shake   free   of   his   chains.

while   following   the   story,   he   has   his   mother   back   in   his   life,   it   doesn't   undo   the   trauma   of   his   family's   betrayal   to   him.   he   still   has   to   deal   with   the   heavy   weight   of   the   knowledge   that   he   shouldn't   be   alive,   that   his   death   was   the   driving   force   behind   his   mother's   absence,   that   his   life   was   the   driving   force   behind   his   father's   bitterness.   it   weighs   heavy   on   his   heart   to   remember   the   words   that   hades   has   spoken   to   him   in   the   past,   all   the   things   that   he   lost   trying   to   reconcile   with   his   own   mother   after   finding   out   that   everyone   in   the   underworld   was   lying   to   him   about   his   true   origins.   he   bottles   things   up,   however,   even   in   the   face   of   those   who   care   about   him   the   most   and   who   he   cares   about   in   turn,   simply   because   he   has   come   to   view   his   own   emotional   toils   as   a   burden   to   anyone   else   and   believes   that   the   negative   thoughts   that   plague   him   in   his   deeper   depressions   are   something   to   instead   be   bottled   up   and   turned   inwards.

he   usually   blows   off   his   steam   from   the   worst   of   things   by   going   out   and   fighting,   putting   the   negative   energy   into   something   productive   to   earn   himself   money   and   reputation   rather   than   wallow   in   things,   but   one   day   he'll   find   that   doing   so   doesn't   resolve   things   the   way   they   should   be   and   he'll   have   to   come   to   terms   with   being   open   with   people   around   him   so   that   he   can   overcome   his   traumas   and   find   himself   some   inner   peace   like   he   deserves.

RATHER PREDICTABLE FOR HIM, THE things that bring him the most joy in life all involve creating happiness first. he likes to help out those who are important to him, and does his best to extend a helping hand to those in need. he's always eager to forgive and give second chances as well, and the relief that can provide some people is another small source of his joy.

though, also... he gets a bit of sick satisfaction beating his father in fights. it's satisfying to know he's not as weak or useless as hades has repeatedly told him he is, and a big part of what really drills that positive reinforcement into his mind is bringing his father to his knees, even if he's always pretty quick to follow in his own return to the underworld.

ZAGREUS'S VIEW ON PEOPLE IN general tends to be a rather positive one, regardless of who he's with. he has a knack for finding and bringing out the best in people around him, and no matter how much someone might get on his nerves, he will credit their strengths where they're due. even when dealing with theseus, that damned cocky king that always stands in his way out of elysium, he can admit the... very rare positives to him. generally speaking, if you've left a good first impression on him, he'll probably favor you. hell, even if you don't leave a good impression, he'll come around at some point.

zagreus is optimistic to a fault and sees the best in everyone, bordering on naivety with his inherent trust in the strangers that he crosses paths with.
