Footsteps raced across rough concrete. Door after door was kicked down.

And yet, nobody had shown up, not even Carnation. The timer wasn't even ticking down. The maze was entirely silent.

Or was it?...

Ire wasn't all too focused on satisfying her urges at the moment. It was clear from any outsider that she was doing something. Everything was just a little darker than usual... or, well, where the sin was anyways. She was bored, distracting herself, passing time slowly.

She stood in the center of a room, what she considers Slugfish's favorite. A narrow pathway that's hard to avoid when you only consider dodging last minute. It was harder to walljump from too, so that was fun. Staring up and looking around, it was obvious that she was deliberately seeking something out, and that something was clearly not a Sinner. How shocking.

No matter what it was, she was looking for it. She looked up, slowly walking forward to the next room. Her search was thorough and surprisingly meticulous for an individual of the likes of her. It was sad that she had to stop for some Sinner, but hey; if they bumped into her, she had some semblance of an excuse to exert her rage that built up from what little she's found onto them.

...stupid fuckin' thing. Can't find it, and now this? I swear to Genesis Himself...

She waited once more, VERY impatient. She was probably going to make this quick.

The door to the room she was in calmly opened, closely followed by a quiet gasp.

In the doorway was a very familiar face, suddenly in a very terrified, defensive stance.

He held completely still, like a statue. His eyes were locked on to her. He looked like a deer in headlights.

Shit.

Ire simply stared for a moment. This was both the calmest and angriest she's ever looked.

So. Am I killing you again? "Killing" you?

She put the second killing into visible, exaggerated air quotes. Her sarcasm dripped from each word, and her tone was dry. A lot drier than usual.

With quotes, because I know that you won't die no matter how many times I stab you. Bastard.

Ire looked back up for a moment, then around for a second more before looking back at the Sinner, deggur already in her hand.

Genesis is a bitch. You're not even special. Just a worthless little pile of cannon fodder trash like the rest of them. How come you get special privileges? Why won't He let your pain end, even if only for a moment?

She staggered closer, steps plenty slower than usual.

Does He love you or hate you? That's what I want to know.

He shuffled backwards, out of the doorframe and into the previous room, preparing to run. Ire's words fell on deaf ears.

A petrified whimper escaped him as he heard her footsteps echo closer and closer.

Ire took her time walking over, though she quickly got on her feet for a moment and grabbed the Sinner. She was NOT letting this one run off.

She held the Sinner's shirt in an iron-clad grip, one of her claws puncturing the fabric a little to really keep a proper hold. She stared for an uncomfortable moment too long, rage clear in her glare.

The deggur was spun around her finger.

Tell me. Do you think He cares? About you, that is. Does Genesis really care about any of you? Do you think He does?

"He keeps me alive. He cares. He has protected me on several different occasions... you remember when you tried to remove my heart?"

His voice was shaky, but he spoke the truth. He had not died; a strange light had replaced his heart the very moment she had torn it out.

He had never seemed to suffer from any effects of blood loss, either... the blood had just kept coming.

Ire gripped onto the Sinner's collar harder.

Yeah yeah, whatever about your fuckin' organs. I noticed the moment I saw it. I'm not a dumbass.

He does wonders for you, huh?

But does He truly care?

If the Sinner were to try and make a rebuttal, she would have instantly shut him down.

Why would He keep you alive — keep you in such agonizing pain — when the relief of death is right there?

Why does He leave you to suffer? Why would such a "loving" God even consider such a thing?

What's the point of keeping you alive if it just hurts you? Why would He dare to put such a strain on your body and your mind from such an individual like me?

Ire spoke with genuine malice, hatred rooted deep in her heart.

If Genesis doesn't love His own creations, why would he love you, the person at their hand?

She took hold of her deggur. She wasn't even trying to be even just the tiniest bit playful anymore.

He quietly wept. He had been unlucky to encounter her once. Twice, maybe a coincidence... but three times? Sin must have pushed her in his direction.

Her words fell on deaf ears yet again. He was too panicked to focus on anything.

Are you just gonna cower in place until I hurt you? Until your God comes to watch you almost die but prevent you from falling fully onto death's hand?

She pushed the blade onto the skin, but there was no actual damage; only a faint thorn-like feeling and the paranoia that comes with having a very sharp object pressed against one of the most fatal areas to have injury go to.

There's... a strange presence in the room with you. It's not a sinner- it's too small- but it feels too physical to be a sin or taint.

A cat collar's bell jingles as the presence approaches you.

The ringing of bells sets Ire off, even if they don't sound as she last remembered that they did.

Drain, get the fuck-

She pauses as she doesn't see anything... but then she spots what made the noise. She flinches back from the spook.

...what the hell is that

-Is all she can muster. She stares at the thing, unhooking the deggur and spinning it as per usual.

All the creature does is look at you curiously. It sits down and blinks all six compound eyes at you. "mrrp?"

It doesn't seem to want to harm you, but the tail-like stingers on its behind tell you that it can and will defend itself if necessary. For the time being, though, it's... strangely adorable?

Eh? It doesn't even have fur- that's a carapace!

Ire didn't quite think of the thing in front of her as "adorable", so to say... but she did feel a bit of intrigue looking at those stingers. Bodily weapons were interesting to Ire.

She silently looked at the thing before gazing at her surroundings. Where had this thing even come from?

Can you speak or what? Or are you just some weird... I don't even know what to compare you to. Cat thing?

She prods at the creature, once then twice where its nose would be, though not with malicious intent. It was a bit aggressive though, even if on accident.

The creature lets out a mildly displeased squeak, and looks up at you somewhat indignantly, as if to say 'why'd you do that?!' Then it shakes itself off, spikes rattling, and gently paws at your hand, claws sheathed, seemingly curious about your own claws.

(sniff, sniff.) It sniffs at your boot, which smells like blood, of course. It doesn't seem to mind, as long as it isn't its own.

It's a very curious creature, intent on knowing ALL the things about you, a new potential friend.

Ire stared back at the creature with a look of indifference. She didn't know what she did wrong, but she didn't care. Never did, never will until she experiences consequences for it.

She steps back as the creature paws at and sniffs her, confused. Why was it doing that?

Stop it.

She tried to push the creature away with her foot, yet again being accidentally aggressive.

Get off of me, I'm not your new little 'friend'.

Oh by Genesis Himself she hated that term. Friendship was a useless desire, one she never felt and most definitely never would. She didn't even know why she was uttering the word unprompted. It was vile in her mouth, even if she never opened it to speak.

The poor thing yelps, being knocked back by your foot. Its collar rattles, its nametag clinking against the bell. It gets up, shakes off... and growls at you. It no longer likes you in the slightest. It will protect itself until death.

Its spikes rattle and flare out. Its tail stingers display themselves. Its wings spread out. Its claws unsheathe.

It hisses at you.

Ire doesn't react too much. She doesn't care about this thing anyways, and it isn't like she's gonna engage more.

Didn't even kick you that hard.

She takes a step away, keeping a keen eye on the thing in case it lunged at her or something. You never know.

This is why I don't interact with animals. I just break everything I touch.

That comment was more to herself. She ruminated on the butterfly for just a moment before taking a couple more steps away, hoping to disengage. She doesn't want any tears in her sleeves.

...it calms down, listening to your words, veeery carefully stepping closer, claws clicking on the hard ground. It's like it wants you to sit down so it can hear you better. (did it misunderstand you? that has to be it.)

Sniffing at your dagger, it suddenly snatches it from its sheath, placing it on the ground surprisingly gently... and then thoroughly coats the blade with its stingers' venom.

The venom smells like spider lilies, adds a strange but beautiful iridescent sheen to it, and is extremely hard to clean off... but it doesn't act like an acid, like it did with the now sizzling floor. It simply sticks to the blade's metallic surface.

With its snout, the creature carefully bumps your dagger towards you proudly, and looks up at you for approval. It thinks you'll like what it's done.

The moment Ire fully turned away was the moment her dagger was stolen. She turned back immediately, going to attempt and snatch it before something happened to it or the animal ran off.

Then the venom was sprayed onto it. Ire took a step back, facial expression being no good indicator of her thoughts. Was she confused? Deliberating? Genuinely pissed off? Who knew. That last option was likely involved however. It's Ire.

Give that back. Fucking asshole...

As soon as she felt like she wasn't going to get attacked, she aggressively snatched back the deggur from the floor. She noticed the scent in the air in full, with it basically slapping her in the face now that it was a lot closer. She wasn't sure she liked it, but it'd be following her around for a while it seemed.

Her expression contorted into more confusion as she inspected the dagger's surface. She looked at the floor, then to the dagger, then at the floor again. Was it so special as to not be affected by that acid? She wouldn't doubt it.

I question you.

Carefully, she hooked the deggur back onto her waist and tried to walk away again. At least it wasn't trying to kill her.

...though, with her luck? It was likely that the creature would pursue her a bit more before it quit.

Padded footsteps follow behind you, giving you enough space for comfort. It knows you don't like being touched, and it's respecting that, but it still likes you. It wants to find prey for you, to do things for you, and to hopefully earn your consideration in return. It's sure it can get through that hard outer shell and make you happy!

It REEEEALLY wants to hop onto your shoulder and keep you warm, but also wants you to stay comfortable.

...PREY.

It runs ahead- far, far ahead- and, a few moments later, drags back... something writhing. Its catch looks alien, more so than itself, but it looks vaguely humanoid... and it's MUCH larger than the oh-so-little 'cute' creature that you met minutes ago. There's a tiny puncture wound on the prey's 'leg'.

It drops the struggling thing at your feet.

Oh, if only that was true. To gain her affection would mean to be the luckiest person in the world.

Ire stepped back as the creature ran far ahead. She didn't care much, standing around and looking at the sky, waiting impatiently to see if that thing came back. Of course, comically, the moment she tried walking off was the moment it came running on back. She facepalmed before pausing upon seeing what it had brought.

...what even was that? A question she's asked internally about, what, five times now?

All she could really do was sigh. Why the hell was this creature trying to get her to like it?

Oh my Genesis- Okay. Git! Go!

She attempted to shoo off the creature with intimidation and more aggressive body language. With a stomp forward, she tried to get it to back off and leave her alone.

Stupid fuckin' thing.

With an eye-roll and a notice to the puncture wound, she attempted to walk off again. How did she even get herself into these situations? All she wanted to do was walk about and inspect the intricate little patterns and "drawings" made in the walls, through all of the cracks, scuff marks, scratches and stains Sinners create.

(draaaag.)

The creature drags its catch closer to you. The thing it caught is now bleeding strangely quickly, from both the puncture and the creature's bite marks, and is starting to seize. All while the creature is sitting pretty right next to it, like it's saying, 'look! look what my venom can do! are you proud?'

It scratches at itself, and its heart patterned collar jingles, drawing your attention. It has a nametag. It has an owner!

As it finishes its itching session, a piece of its keratinous carapace detaches, clattering on the ground, and reveals a beautiful, vibrant purplish color beneath. It shakes itself off, and the rest of the plates clatter off in unison. The creature is now a gorgeous pearlescent lavender, fading to a bright, then dark purple gradient closer to its paws.

It bumps the shed carapace towards you. Maybe you could use it for something...?

Ire rolled her eyes as the creature did not leave, but she decided to inspect the body a bit further than a side-eye glance from an eye that's partially color-blind and can see fuck-all (in terms of precise vision) anyways.

The victim was seizing. She knew what the process was, but she'd never actually seen any sort of seizure (and seizing by extension) actually happen. It was... mildly interesting. She didn't care too much though, no blood meant not all too practical for satiation.

However, she looked at the creature, retreating just a tad as it shook off its carapace, immediately going over to slide the piece it had scooted closer to her to that she could properly kick it away. She noticed the collar.

The fuck is with this thing?

As she had the space, she kneeled downmarket rather aggressively grab the metal identification part of the collar, wanting to see if she could go return this thing to anyone she knew. Or abandon it, that would work. She didn't give a shit about it anyways, who cared if it lived or died.

It's a very curious creature, intent on knowing ALL the things about you, a new potential friend.

She steps back as the creature paws at and sniffs her, confused. Why was it doing that?

The poor thing yelps, being knocked back by your foot. Its collar rattles, its nametag clinking against the bell. It gets up, shakes off... and growls at you. It no longer likes you in the slightest. It will protect itself until death.

Its spikes rattle and flare out. Its tail stingers display themselves. Its wings spread out. Its claws unsheathe.

It hisses at you.

Ire doesn't react too much. She doesn't care about this thing anyways, and it isn't like she's gonna engage more.

She takes a step away, keeping a keen eye on the thing in case it lunged at her or something. You never know.

That comment was more to herself. She ruminated on the butterfly for just a moment before taking a couple more steps away, hoping to disengage. She doesn't want any tears in her sleeves.

...it calms down, listening to your words, veeery carefully stepping closer, claws clicking on the hard ground. It's like it wants you to sit down so it can hear you better. (did it misunderstand you? that has to be it.)

Sniffing at your dagger, it suddenly snatches it from its sheath, placing it on the ground surprisingly gently... and then thoroughly coats the blade with its stingers' venom.

The venom smells like spider lilies, adds a strange but beautiful iridescent sheen to it, and is extremely hard to clean off... but it doesn't act like an acid, like it did with the now sizzling floor. It simply sticks to the blade's metallic surface.

With its snout, the creature carefully bumps your dagger towards you proudly, and looks up at you for approval. It thinks you'll like what it's done.

The moment Ire fully turned away was the moment her dagger was stolen. She turned back immediately, going to attempt and snatch it before something happened to it or the animal ran off.

Then the venom was sprayed onto it. Ire took a step back, facial expression being no good indicator of her thoughts. Was she confused? Deliberating? Genuinely pissed off? Who knew. That last option was likely involved however. It's Ire.

Give that back. Fucking asshole...

As soon as she felt like she wasn't going to get attacked, she aggressively snatched back the deggur from the floor. She noticed the scent in the air in full, with it basically slapping her in the face now that it was a lot closer. She wasn't sure she liked it, but it'd be following her around for a while it seemed.

Her expression contorted into more confusion as she inspected the dagger's surface. She looked at the floor, then to the dagger, then at the floor again. Was it so special as to not be affected by that acid? She wouldn't doubt it.

I question you.

Carefully, she hooked the deggur back onto her waist and tried to walk away again. At least it wasn't trying to kill her.

...though, with her luck? It was likely that the creature would pursue her a bit more before it quit.

Padded footsteps follow behind you, giving you enough space for comfort. It knows you don't like being touched, and it's respecting that, but it still likes you. It wants to find prey for you, to do things for you, and to hopefully earn your consideration in return. It's sure it can get through that hard outer shell and make you happy!

It REEEEALLY wants to hop onto your shoulder and keep you warm, but also wants you to stay comfortable.

It runs ahead- far, far ahead- and, a few moments later, drags back... something writhing. Its catch looks alien, more so than itself, but it looks vaguely humanoid... and it's MUCH larger than the oh-so-little 'cute' creature that you met minutes ago. There's a tiny puncture wound on the prey's 'leg'.

It drops the struggling thing at your feet.
