The Dark I Know Well || Rowan & Micah
rowan–murdoc:
The minute movement of the male’s arm did not go unnoticed by Rowan. Just as he had anticipated, he was armed. But it looked like nothing more than a knife, hardly anything Rowan needed to be concerned about. Still, he did not draw nearer, letting the man keep some space between them. They were still perfect strangers, after all, and the Hallowed Oak was not really a place where one made friends.
“If you don’t know where you are or where you’re going, then you’re lost,” Rowan said matter-of-factly. “Whether you got lost on purpose or not, that doesn’t make much difference.” It was a bold statement for him to make, considering he’d wandered for much the same reason. But it was a poor idea for a human to be wandering the Hallowed Oak on their own. Really, he’d be lucky if he made it out alive.
When the man continued to speak, Rowan had the decency to look abashed. Of course he was unsettled – a man had just appeared to him in the Hallowed Oak and started talking to him. He must of thought he was some sort of predator or villain, not that Rowan would refuse such titles for himself. But he bowed his head in apology and said, “I’m sorry if I, um…assisted in your discomfort. It was not my intention. I just sme- Er, I heard someone wandering about and came to investigate. I must admit, you had me a bit unnerved at first as well.”
He thought about smiling for a moment, but it didn’t seem right to do so just then. But as the human stepped closer, that weird scent grew stronger in his nose. Ugh, it was worse so close, like sticking his face into a barrel of cinnamon. He was almost overpowered by the scent of it, but he managed to keep a somewhat straight face. Even if this man did not prove to be a threat, there was still something off about him. Rowan would be stupid to let his guard down now.
“I promise you, I’m not lost,” he said, waving a hand as if to dismiss the human’s words, when in reality he was trying to clear the air of his scent. “Well, I am, but I am the sort of lost that you are. The kind that is done with intent. I’ll be able to find my way back well enough, I promise.”
Micah relaxed slightly as the man spoke. He didn't seem too dangerous, at least not outright. And he was right that they were in the same situation. Maybe Micah and this stranger had more in common than he had first thought. "Well then it looks like we're in the same situation, Sir. " He took a step closer, extending his hand in greeting "Pleasure to meet you under these….stranger circumstances. I'm Micah, and you are?"
The young man left the greeting in the air, still slightly nervous. Micah knew that even the nicest people could be the most dangerous. Being sleep deprived in a mostly unknown part of Hallowed Oak with an eerie stranger was not the best situation for a human, hunter or not. He could hear the warnings running through his head, all the people lecturing him for not being careful enough. If anything happened to him, he knew he'd end up with the blame for being so foolish and unguarded.
"Do you spent a lot of time in Hallowed Oak? I know most people avoid these parts, I wasn't expecting to run into anyone. " He took a moment, thinking out what to say. He didn't want to be too welcoming but he also didn't necessarily want to scare off the stranger "Are you sure you don't need a place to stay or…something?"
