"Goodbye my princess" is really a good adaptation, they also have improved a lot of things from the original novel. Somehow the story is even better.
But I really can't forgive the hypocrite propaganda on the supposed Gu Jian's selfless love done by the screenwriters, and because of that they sidelined the real selfess love in Xiao Feng's life: Adu.
When the soldiers shot the arrows, the first priority of Xiaofeng was always Adu, the first person she checked was Adu, she finally understood how Li Chengyin was cruel with no point of return by how much he didn't care about Adu.
Making Gu Jian's death dragging on for literally half an hour, with Xiao Feng crying for him and never checking on Adu, was truly a nonsense. And making Adu stay there all night, wounded, was even a worse nonsense. In the novel Xiaofeng literally carried Adu herself to the doctors. (Damned they even stolen the iconic bittersweet line "let's go back to home" between the girls by giving it to Xiaofeng/Gu Jian 🥱🥱🥱)
I'm not saying Xiao Feng wasn't also desperate and angry for Gu Jian's death, quite the contrary, she was. But the screenwriters exaggerated his (fake) martyr aura so much that it felt so forced. It didn't work, especially since Gu Jian in the drama is vile in a way he isn't even in the book. Gu Jian never pretended to be Gu Xiaowu, he never took advantage of her with that, so it's even more stupid that Xiaofeng is so okay with him and that his life is even more of a priority for her than Adu.
Not on my watch, respect my girls!
Since they shot this scene, Xiaofeng checking first Adu, then they all know it was important, but they stupidly deleted it. All for a love triangle who shouldn't even exist 🥱
