Somehow, a part of Simon has a hard time believing that.

People aren't kind like Ryland is, aren't gentle in the ways Ryland are. It all confuses Simon so much he can barely take it nowadays. Where Simon comes from, people are harsh, desperate. Kindness comes with a price, and that price often isn't something nice or gentle in the ways Ryland always is with Simon. The very idea of it sometimes makes Simon so confused he can barely handle being around Ryland. Why was he so kind? Why did he seem to expect nothing from Simon in return? It all made Simon feel a little wary deep down of the man. But, he would never say that out loud.

"I don't think I'm that good of company."

People are- frightening, in ways that Simon had been forced to witness all throughout his life. People could do horrible things if they felt they had any sort of reason to do so. He had grown careful around most others through his years. He never knew who wanted to use him or hurt him in whatever way they saw fit.

Ryland isn't like that, and it confuses Simon more than anything else.

What did Ryland expect from Simon? Thinking about that made Simon's stomach twist, so he tended to avoid that train of thought. It didn't help that Ryland had seemed to prove time and time again that Simon's fears were nothing more than anxieties he apparently needed to grapple.

A little note: I enjoy shipping as much as the next guy, but im probably gonna keep it down to two of each muse. It just makes life easier for me. I'm not a big single ship guy, but I'm not gonna drown myself in a hundred of the same muse. For a website like Tumblr, I think two of the same muse is my limit when it comes to shipping.

It's not taken in offense, not something Simon allows to rub him the wrong way. A part of him wants to snap at that question. But, he understands questions. He understands curiosity and the desire to know things more fully that don't make a lot of sense. Simon's entire life was confusing. Explaining it to anyone was already bad enough.
