I think the most recent chapter (122) sets the scene for a big reveal...
So all the way back in chapter 39, (ironically called "a portrait of a father"), the headmaster of Atsushi's orphanage comes to Yokohama for a shady deal, but gets hit by a truck and killed...
Atsushi's UPSET. More than you would be if the person who abused you basically your whole childhood died in a horrible way. And when Dazai comes to see Atsushi at the end of the chapter, he's feeling numb. He doesn't know what to feel, sadness? relief that his suffering is over? Anyway, Dazai says this "i can only say one general thing, when someone's father dies, they'll usually cry"...
.... and he starts crying again.
I always felt like Dazai knew more than what he was letting on in this scene, and now, with the headmaster's reappearance as a spirit, I think it could be revealed in the next (or an upcoming) chapter, that the orphanage headmaster is Atsushi's biological father.
