For the depressed person - one of my biggest roadblocks to getting work done when depressed was just feeling too overwhelmed by everything I had to do. Making a list of things to cross off helps, but even that can be too much. The thing to do is just pick one thing, or part of one thing to do. No giant projects. No big tasks or lists. Write the intro to a paper. Or find three quotes to use in the paper. Do three practice problems from an assignment. Once you get started it gets easy.

If you would know God, and worship and serve God as you should do, you must come to the means he has ordained and given for that purpose. Some seek it in books, some in learned men, but what they look for is in themselves, yet they overlook it. The voice is too still, the Seed too small, and the Light shineth in darkness … the woman that lost her silver found it at home after she had lighted her candle and swept her house.
William Penn, A Brief Account Of the Rise and Progress of the People Called Quakers (via bloodthirstyvegan)
I love religion for the purpose of wisdom and the comfort that hits you on a spiritual level. There's nothing else that can provide that. There are fakes like TV, the internet, shopping, substances. I do all of those things and I'm also not claiming to be very far into my own spiritual journey, bit I just don't understand what people use instead of religion. Maybe some people don't crave it as much as others. Sure, religion is used as the worst excuse ever for a number of serious issues, but what I really want to know is, why would you choose not to believe?
More related to this quote though, I've been really struggling lately and seeking comfort and numbness in the wrong places. I know that if I sit and listen I will learn better ways of living, yet I still reach for the easiest "solutions": sudoku, youtube, netflix. I think that searching for things in the wrong places delays a satisfactory solution, so I'm really just stalling myself in this process if transformation and delaying coming out of it. Don't be like the Bloodthirsty Vegan. Do what will actually help you grow out of the darkness.
