Interview with Bloody Hook’s Lead Guitarist Vladdi, on their upcoming song “Whale Call”
Q: Hello Chumblr, this is Q from the Tropica News Collective. Today I am proud to introduce our special guest Vladdi of Bloody Hook.
Q: We couldn’t convince the whole band to come but it’s still so nice to have you here.
Vladdi: Yea, with the prep for the Whale Fall release tomorrow, the whole band is incredibly busy. I just barely had enough room in my schedule for this interview.
Q: Does this mean I have to rush things?
Vladdi: Nah, you’re good.
Q: Ok then let’s get started with your first question. When revealing you’re new song Whale Fall, it was stated that you created it during “the Trenchfest” can you explain what that is for the viewers who might not know.
Vladdi: Oh! So, the Trenchfest is basically a cooler version of Splatfest held in the Undertow. It’s hosted by the Inkidol group Trench, you’ve heard of them, yeah?
Q: I believe so… Oh! Didn’t you do a cover of one of their songs? Not Over It, right?
Vladdi: Yes, yes! That’s the one!
Q: You seem very excited about this, are you perhaps a fan?
Vladdi: Oh My Cod, YES! I’m a massive fan! I’mma be real the Trench fest was some of the best 3 days of my life! Not many people know this but before that cover of Not Over It, we didn’t really know what we were doing. We were kinda just throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks. But once we started working on the cover everything suddenly clicked, and we had, in a way “found our sound”.
Q: Well then, it makes sense how you were able to be so inspired to make a song during the Trenchfest. Even so I would like to know how you even ended up making a song in the first place.
Vladdi: Well, you see, the theme of the Fest was Metal vs Rock vs Punk. But since there’s 7 of us, and Bloody Hook has elements of all 3, we ended up on different teams. Vanny and Nail on team Metal; Rosé, Harry, and Ms. Joy on team rock; and me with Wendy on team Punk. Because of that it was hard for us to truly participate in the fest, y’know? There was, however, 1 thing that was made for us. A music and art submission. We decided we were gonna make one big nasty song with elements of all three genres. We decided it would be submitted to team Punk because of just how gnarly the song was, also because I won the candy-on-a-string rally.
Q: So that explains the more experimental aspects like the dissonant chords and the “fry screaming” attempted by Vanny. Speaking of, why did Vanny suddenly decide to try fry screaming, doesn’t she usually do high notes?
Vladdi: Apparently she was getting called a poser by some of the metal heads, as well as being cat called.
Vladdi: So she ran up to Nail and yelled, “I WANNA SCREAM AT THOSE CHUDS!!!” so he, and a close friend of ours, taught her how to fry scream. And as her number one hater, even I’ve gotta admit she did a good job.
Q: Wait, you hate your sister?
Vladdi: Yes? Don’t ask stupid questions. What’s next?
Q: R-right right umm… Ok, you said earlier that the Trenchfest took place in the undertow. Nearby in the Deepsea Metro, there was an attack taking place was anybody affected by that?
Vladdi: Thankfully not, in fact it took a while for the news to even reach the undertow. But once we heard about it we knew we had to say something about it, and so the lyrics of our song were influenced by the event. We wish to bring empowerment back to those who felt hopeless during those times.
Q: Right it the snippet you guys showed us you all repeated the line “I will never die” a few times. Are there any other lines you can explain to us?
Vladdi: I think it’d be more fun if listeners dissect the music themselves, wouldn’t you agree?
Q: I guess you’re right. Another question I have is that Bloody Hook is notorious for pumping out songs quickly, and this one doesn’t seem to be any different, but how long did this one take to make?
Vladdi: You’re right on the money, we submitted this song after working on it for about 7 hours, that’s a new record right behind Lost Lagoon at 10 hours.
Vladdi: Don’t get me wrong, I was bad! The audio in the recording was bad! You couldn’t even hear me at a certain point. But it was good enough for us to play live, though we did mess up a lot.
Q: Wait, you played it live?
Vladdi: Yep! Once you submitted a song you could play it live on stage. I’ve even got a photo of me on the stage.
Q: So the people of the Undertow have already heard your song.
Vladdi: You just had to be there.
Q: Welp, it’s about time we wrap this up. Any last thoughts Vladdi?
Vladdi: Whale Call was such a fun song to create for everyone involved, and we’re super excited to share it with you all tomorrow. And if you ever feel down and out because of what life throws at you, remember, “It’s in our blood” to fight back.
