Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
Early character sketches of Jack Sparrow by Crash McCreery.
you’re not some dark woke pariah just because you spend your days posting about fictional slave owners taking it up the ass on tumblr dot com
we would look so good decaying together
gritting my teeth. it's actually fine when popular posts on here severely misunderstand disney's pirates of the caribbean. I'm not even that mad about it and if I was that would be unreasonable because tumblr users are allowed to misunderstand disney's pirates of the caribbean. it's normal and fine that they do this
Caution, Barbossa. Do not forget it was by my power you return from the dead. ➢ PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT WORLD'S END (2007)

“Every man has a price he will willingly accept, even for what he hopes never to sell.” ↳ tom hollander as lord cutler beckett, pirates of the caribbean (2006–2007)
i do think i've said everything i have to say about barbossa/tia dalma in the fic i've published but the fics i had planned from elizabeth's pov that feature glimpses at their relationship as they sail to singapore... not worth mentioning i guess since they will never see the light of day but. man. talk about The Sauce. that's a pair that has The Sauce.
hector barbossa has never loved anyone or anything the way he has loved and been loved by the sea, and after spending 10 anguished, lonely years dead and doomed to wander it, the immortal goddess calypso raises him from his watery grave, and he is bound in servitude to her as she is bound in her human form... that's the fucking stuff
the added layer of jack/calypso here as well.... tia dalma liiiiiiiiiiikes jack. she finds him funny and charming and she liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiikes him. and the sea likes him. the sea plays to his hand. cares for him. spares him. the sea has never extended any such kindness nor favor to hector barbossa, who has loved it for longer. but the sea has had need of barbossa in a way she has never had need of jack sparrow.
Oooh I feel like I have to respectfully disagree there. I feel like the sea likes Jack. Favours him. He has an affinity for it, feels more at home on a ship then he ever would in the ocean, whereas Barbossa uses the sea as a means to an end. The thing that gives him carries him to treasures unknown. But he is a servant to the sea, as he is to Calypso in her human form, doing her bidding. Setting her free, he tries to get her to do his bidding but she turns on him as the sea does, brings him a maelstrom for them all to face instead of being aimed at his enemies.
But Jack? Jack She helps. Trades with, soothes his fears with that jar of dirt. She lets steal from her. Lets him be playful with her and is playful in return. There's no more taming Jack than there is taming the sea and I think she recognises that in him. And likes it.
Oooh, ok, since you felt moved to share i will too!

i totally agree with this! i agree so much i said it word for word in my previous reblog. i"ll add it here in case you can't find it, here you go!

and the point where you disagree with me about barbossa loving the sea and say that he uses it only as a means to an end is just untrue, sorry
There be a third course. In another age, at this very spot, the First Brethren Court captured the sea goddess and bound her in her bones. That was a mistake. Oh, we tamed the seas for ourselves, aye. But opened the door to Beckett and his ilk. Better were the days when mastery of seas came not from bargains struck with eldritch creatures, but from the sweat of a man's brow and the strength of his back alone. You all know this to be true. Gentlemen. Ladies. We must free Calypso.
^ this is barbossa's speech to the brethren court in awe, emphasis mine. elizabeth quotes his own speech to him when it comes time for the pirate fleet to face beckett's armada. barbossa loves the sea and loves piracy and these things make up the purpose of his life.
if the sea were a means to an end, barbossa would happily have retired after the maelstrom with his share of the treasure that the pearl's crew amassed over ten years of plundering, but he instead makes plans to take the pearl to the fountain of youth and continue his adventures. he has more money than he could spend in a dozen lifetimes and he chooses instead to get back onto the waves and eat weevil filled hardtack for months at a time because he loves sailing and he loves piracy. it's the only thing he wants to do.
barbossa is a quintessential storybook pirate. a black hearted scoundrel, a charming rogue, and a ruthless if debonair villain. he exists in the story as a counterweight to jack sparrow. elizabeth reads about jack's adventures and has a mythologized vision of piracy in her head that he fails to live up to. in comes barbossa to live up to every inch of it. he's a sentient animatronic that walked out of the disneyland attraction and onto the big screen.
he is not using the seas as a means to an end, he deeply loves and respects the sea and the skill it takes to sail it. see above! he says that beckett and his ilk utilize the sea to exploit it, whereas he and his fellow members of the court honor the sea and live their lives on it.
I might kill my exxxxx not the best ideaaaa <33
i'm sure there are other people who have the "my dad and i have the same ongoing situationship" problem but pirate king elizabeth swann is the only example that comes to mind. and she's handling it not ungracefully it must be said.
once we're quit of the curse we'll be rich men. and you can buy veneers what are made of porcelain and actually fit
