“Yeah. The big three gods- Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades. They agreed after..World War 2 I think? To not have any more demigod kids. They were too dangerous and powerful or whatever.”
Even through all the shit he went through, the kid never cried. Sure he got upset, and lashed out at times—but he almost never got teary-eyed. At least not where others could see.
So this was not normal for him.
He’d been trying to be at camp less, spend more time at home or traveling with Annabeth, but he’d come back today. Because he couldn’t handle being anywhere else.
He wasn’t welcome anywhere else. He was barely even welcome here, if he was being honest.
Percy sat on the living room couch, staring blankly down at the coffee table as he scraped his fingernails against his palms. He’d been trying to hold the tears back, he was, but it just wasn’t working. Every minute or so he’d have to look up and wipe at his eyes to keep them from pouring down his cheeks.
He was the only Jackson left. He was not a Blofis. He never would be. But his mom was now, which left him all alone. They were their own happy little family. Her, Paul, and Estelle. His sweet little sister. But none of them were really his, were they? They were…different. No- that was wrong. He was different.
He was the son of Poseidon. He was a danger- a liability to his mom, and the new family she’d created. One that he wasn’t a part of, whether they admitted it or not. He’d been a burden on her his whole life, messing everything up. Her dreams, her youth. Who was he to ruin the good things she finally had now?
Perseus loved Estelle. Of course he did. But deep down inside, there was resentment there. Not necessarily towards her, but what she got to have. A completely normal life. Without gods and monsters, without battles and death. At least, she could have that.
But only if Percy wasn’t there.
That’s why he was being shut out.
They weren’t obvious about it, they didn’t shout it in his face or force him out of their home. But they showed it in other ways. Subtle looks, hushed talks that were abruptly cut off when he stepped into the room. The ‘concern’ they had when anything went awry. Somehow it was always his fault. Always him. He was the root source of the problem.
The dam holding back his sobs nearly broke, until he heard footsteps around the corner, coming down the hallway. The demigod sniffled harshly and tried his best to wipe his eyes, averting his gaze right back to the old wooden table in front of him.
It wasn’t working. Fuck- Shit. “Damn it-“

Dionysus didn’t like campers in the big house.
Nor did he like Percy.
So, this combo should have been a recipe for disaster. At least a few comments from the god about peter infiltrating his space, and just being a nuisance.
But, when he saw the son of Poseidon crying he paused.
He had never, not once in his life seen Perseus Jackson cry. The boy had been attending camp during the summers for years — and dionysus had never even seen him tear up.
There was a dreadfully awkward pause, where Dionysus just stood there, staring at Percy. His atrocious tiger print button up half tucked into his cargo shorts as if he had just woken up from a long nap.
“…Peter?”
Another pause, as if Mr. D couldn’t even process what was happening.
Percy snapped up, freezing like a deer in headlights mid-wiping his eyes. For a painful, uncomfortably long moment, they both just stared. He briefly glanced him over, feeling more awkward by the second.
He cleared his throat. “….Hi.” Yikes. He sounded bad. It came out as more of a choked squeak than real words.
A beat. Silence.
“Uhm- what are you doing here?” Really, the god should be the one asking that—demigods didn’t commonly hang out in the Big House, and he hadn’t been at camp for weeks now. But he didn’t know what else to say.
“Oh,” he said dumbly. And then after a few moments, “Right.”
Percy sat there silently for a moment, fidgeting with his hands and picking at his nails. His foot bounced up and down restlessly on the floor.
Mr. D, Dionysus, the son of Zeus, the drunk- whatever you wanted to scream at him, was…well.
Percy wasn’t so sure what to think of him anymore.
He was grumpy, harsh, dismissive. He didn’t care about anything.
Except…that wasn’t true. He was a father, as well as a man who had been told and made to feel like he was nothing. One who’d proved everyone wrong.
There were two completely contradicting sides of him, and it ticked Percy off. He didn’t know how to feel about him. How can someone be so cold, whilst there was proof slipping through the cracks that he wasn’t?
“I’m not- I’m not crying.” He sniffled despite that, quickly continuing in his task of incessantly rubbing his eyes. He huffed, feeling himself tear back up again. “I…I just…” Percy swallowed thickly.
The god sighed, rubbing a hand though his curly hair. He finally moved, sitting down on the couch across from Percy with a huff.
“Doesn’t look that way.” He noted, once again gesturing in Percy’s direction.
With a wave of his hand, a can of diet coke appeared on the table infront of them. He slide the can over to Percy with an unimpressed look on his face.
“Spare me the dramatics Patrick. Something’s clearly up and the sooner we sort this out the sooner you leave.”
Percy grimaced and swallowed the lump in his throat, staring down at the floor as the man walked over and sat in front of him. His eyes were brought back up at the sound of the can gliding across the table.
Glaring, he picked it up and cracked it open—tipping his head back and taking a drink. Gross, but it was better than nothing.
“I told you I’m fine.” He spat through gritted teeth.
After a moment of silence from his end, he sighed and slowly started to rock back and forth ever so slightly. Self-soothing behavior.
“It’s….it’s about home.” Evidently, that translated to: ‘ it’s about my mom. ’
The director had only got bits and pieces of information about her over the years, and it was usually nothing particularly memorable.
“I can’t go back.” The son of Poseidon huffed, pulling his knees up and burying his face in his jeans for a couple seconds. When he pulled away again, his eyes were significantly redder.
“Sally.” He corrected on instinct, snapping at him. “And she…she hasn’t said it directly.” Percy sighed, picking at the skin around his nails.
“But I think she was planning on it.” He murmured quietly, refusing to look up at him. This was a new low. Venting to Mr.D of all people about his problems. Why did he even care? He could’ve very well just kicked him out of the big house. But instead he was doing…this.
“At the very least, she wants to.” The son of Poseidon bit his lip.
“Because she- she just wants to keep my little sister safe.” His voice cracked despite himself, and he cursed under his breath, hiding his face again.
Safe from him. Safe from what he could bring upon them.
Even through all the shit he went through, the kid never cried. Sure he got upset, and lashed out at times—but he almost never got teary-eyed. At least not where others could see.
