How did he get so successful?

Simple. He used referrals to grow his business. I’m sure it wasn’t an over night success story. He had worked hard. He made his business attractive by offering quality work. None of his clients felt cheated. If they had, he wouldn’t have earned their referral.

Don’t waste opportunities

Creating Content that Doesn’t Suck

Don’t Waste Your Time

If you are anything like me, you and your team have probably spent hours trying to create the perfect piece of marketing content. Regardless the type of content, you pour your heart and soul onto a video, brochure, email campaign, blog, etc, and put together the best pitch possible. You put extra effort into the graphics, and production value. And when you click “post” or “send”, nothing happens. 

Far too often, when creating content, we get excited about our ideas (which is not a bad thing at all) and forget to look at the content from our audience’s perspective. One of the hardest lessons to learn is that the pet projects we have spent days on are not interesting to our market.

Giving your sales pitch is something you earn the right to do after you have earned your audiences trust and respect by putting out marketing content that has value.

1) Pick better topics. (Where better = relevant).

What makes a topic relevant? Simple. How interested is your audience? Or, a better way to ask the question would be: What keeps your audience awake at night. Talking about things that your audience is worried about is a surefire way to start the conversation with them.

2) Limit the technobabble

Technical jargon kills productive conversation. Technical jargon exists for a reason, and some of your audience might understand it. But if you aren’t careful, you will end up like the guy on YouTube talking about the Rockwell Retro Encabulator. Some things need to be explained the way you would explain them to a five year old.

3) Don’t pitch your product or services in every single piece of content

Don’t you hate when you open supposedly helpful content only to find that is just a thinly disguised sales pitch? It makes me feel cheated. I feel like you used the ole bait and switch maneuver. There is a time and a place to pitch. AND NO. It’s not everywhere, all the time.

Giving your sales pitch is something you earn the right to do after you have earned your audiences trust and respect. Sure you can drop a reminder of your availability to help your audience, but don’t annoy them with constant sales talk.

Conclusion

Making good content is different than just making content. Spend your time and money on content that makes a difference and adds value to people’s lives. Making content just to say you have content wastes the most precious commodity – your time! If you’re not going to do that, then don’t make marketing content at all. It’s a cut throat world out there… and people will be turned off quickly when they view content that didn’t have them in mind.

How to Make More Videos in Less Time Video marketing is here to stay. In fact, video campaigns edge out images on Facebook for clicks. But before you rush out to buy a brand new camera and editing software that you will only use once, we encourage you to read through the following 3-Phase plan. It'll keep you from losing your mind and your time. Pre-Production 1. Have a Thought Out Concept - Define your idea ahead of time. Focus in on a specific idea or message. Creating good content takes planning. 2. Figure Out What You Want to Say- Knowing at least the basics of what you want to cover will help you sound better when you start recording. You might not want to sound like a robot reciting text, but you should at the very least sound competent. 3. Plan Your Shoot - Set up everything you need in advance. Picking your clothing, time, location, and equipment will help you get what you need out of the limited time you have on location. Stage it ahead of time so you know exactly what you are going to do and where. 4. Choose Your Equipment Ahead of Time. Whether you are using a smartphone, DSLR, or professional camera, you need to have it ready to go. And don't forget your audio equipment. Make sure that every piece of equipment you need is set up and make sure you know how to use them. Production 1. Set Up- Set up your equipment, double-check to make sure everything works, and review your script and all the shots you need to take. Take advantage of windows or natural lighting. And don't forget to do a test recording with every piece of equipment you plan to use. 2. Take Your Time- It sounds counter-intuitive, but give yourself plenty of time and review your footage before you wrap up/finish your shoot. It's always easier to do a shot on the day you shoot the rest of the footage. 3. Relax and Be Yourself- You get to have fun creating great content. Don't let it stress you out. Stress can ruin good shots. Post-Production 1. Putting it All Together- Gather all your footage, with any music, logos, or other footage. you need into one digital folder. Consider subtitles for your video at this stage. It's easier to fix it before you finish the video. 2. Pick a Good Video Editing Software (iMovie, or Adobe Premier, or some 3rd party platforms)- Pick a software that will allow you to fix any mistakes, make cuts look seamless, and create a high-quality video product. 3. Edit Your Footage, export it at the highest quality (the channels where you upload it will compress it so having a high quality first draft ensures a quality video.) Plan to spend at least 1 day editing your video. And that's it. Your video is ready. Load it up. Pro-Tip: You can create consistent content by planning it out. Use a worksheet to plan each video. You can use formulaic content to make them easier to film. (You can even write them all up and film them on the same day.) Things to consider: On average, it takes 6-8 hours of planning, shooting and editing to create less than 5 minutes of publishable content. And the content you create will directly reflect your skill level in the shooting, editing, and overall quality of your videos. How do you keep them from becoming “could have been customers”? You need a system that will keep your audience engaged and open to buying from you. You need a way to build a relationship with your audience, convince them you have the solution, and drive them to act. You need a sales funnel. “If you want to set up a system that feeds you leads & sales, you need a sales funnel…” Here are the 4 parts your sales funnel should include: 1. Awareness The first part of your funnel is the part that builds awareness of your brand and/or product. If you aren’t able to build awareness, the rest of the funnel will fail. The other parts build off of you having made people aware of you or your product. 2. Interest After people are aware of you, you need to get them interested in your solutions. You can build interest by creating points of contact through video, email, and social media posts. 3. Decision Once you’ve built enough trust, confidence, and authority, you can convert people who are aware and interested into leads that you can develop relationships with. 4. Action There are two steps to accomplish in this phase of the funnel. You need to get your lead to first schedule an appointment (or click a link) and then make a purchase.
