𝕺𝓃𝒸𝑒 𝓊𝓅𝑜𝓃 𝒶 𝓉𝒾𝓂𝑒, there lived a young man in a cramped townhouse who was related to both a prince and a princess. despite that, he was nothing but a mere servant in his very own kingdom. he cooked, cleaned, and kept to himself most days, often getting the short end of many sticks. many who visited the castle had told the king and queen what a lovely and mature young man they were fostering. they appreciated the compliments but never viewed their son as a rightful heir; rather, he was a mere nuisance and an utter failure in their eyes. he didn't have the talent the prince had, nor half the charisma the princess held, and all he could blubber was a simple but pathetic "i tried." praise was never given for those who tried; it was given to those who came back with successful results, and well, that's where the young servant fell short. it would be sweet to say this tale ended in happiness, that the servant was a hero and saved his beloved kingdom. that he ended up being revered and finding true love, but that was best left for fictitious tales. reality was much crueler.
and yes, that young servant was none other than dennis laurie.
such a youth left him quite stunted, insecure, and feeling inadequate in anything he did. after all, he was mainly left to his own devices. said devices were fairytales and anecdotal stories, both of which got him terribly bullied for being so "girlish" and "dainty" despite him trying to explain that he was supposed to be the knight that saved the princess, not the damsel in distress. this sort of bullying was long-lasting and shifted from schoolyard taunts and mild annoyances to humiliation rituals and insults that were threaded between the lines, ones he refused to read because he didn't want to understand the truth of where he stood. dennis just couldn't hack it, not in the way his parents wanted or in the way his peers wanted. he wasn't a prodigy at anything, nor was he all that great at talking despite getting a communications degree from an ivy league school (meeting the bare minimum in his parents' eyes). he was so painfully average that he ended up being ignored.
college was supposed to be a respite, away from his tumultuous time at radcliffe, and yet he hadn't changed, becoming more isolated and graduating with a high grade point average because studying was all he had left. however, new york was loud, expensive, and much too fast of a pace for him to keep up with. so he went back home, back to radcliffe, and now attempts to face his fears with his past.
his previous jobs ended up being blunders, one after the other, due to his own self-sabotage. he can do the job amazingly well and takes into account the painstakingly little details that many would forget, but due to that he's slow (not just on the uptake) and lacks the confidence to properly share his ideas (which could be great). getting fired from his stocking job destroyed him, but getting hired at scratch that! brought a bit of his spark back. he loves perusing the aisles and reorganizing the boxes alphabetically; it's calming, repetitive, and easy. the same with conversations, all revolving around a shared love for music that even he, the socially awkward nerd, can get into.
this little worm has a lot going on in his head, part of the gig with being a chronic overthinker. he's an introvert through and through, a pessimistic one to boot as well. he tends to shake, shudder, and shiver to the point he could be classified as some human ghost reader (a superstition where ghosts phase through you when you shudder randomly). it translates the most in his hands, the nervous energy turning off any career path that involves a scalpel and precision. while mostly reserved, he does have a habit of talking with his hands to get his point across and is quite animated once you get him going. on the flipside, it makes him a ticking time bomb in certain conflicts, with emotional capacity at overload as he ends up crying when frustrated (and blubbering, hence the blog name "blubbering worm"). he fidgets and mumbles, namely when he feels like he has done something wrong, and wears his heart through his hands (closed fists mean some sort of negative energy even if he's smiling; open means sincerity and joy). he is someone who is touch-starved and relies on constant reassurance at times, even if it seems like he may not need it.
he had a hamster named spiderham who he loved to bits, the death of his beloved pet weighed heavy on him despite everyone around him using the adjective "sensitive" as an insult. a painted portrait of the long haired teddy bear fella lives on his walls.
he lives in a dingy studio apartment and takes care of his neighbor's dog named peanut. though it's been three months and he's starting to think the dog's been dumped on him. he still takes care of her, even if she has a bad nipping problem.
knits some of his clothing. looks somewhat obvious that they are self-made. he's sort of broke, so his knitting needles have been collecting dust while his sweaters are well-loved (and worn).
loves making his friends homemade holiday cookie boxes and handmade goodies, it keeps his mind off of the regrets.
bikes everywhere (to save the environment and totally not because he has a fear of driving!) his pride and joy is a blue murray monterey beach cruiser, in peak condition of course.
