I think a lot of young women exploring feminism and getting mixed messages from commerialized pop feminism but find it comforting to some degree don’t spend a lot of time really exploring the reality of women’s lives in the past (or even present). Like, there are so many things we take for granted. Can you believe there was a time before birth control? Oral contraceptive of course, but ALSO condoms? And there was so little opportunity if you didn’t marry. And then you marry and what? Get pregnant over and over, in a time where women were considered to simple biologically to have any diseases more than “hysteria.” It really is stomach turning when you take time to explore it and it’s not surprising (though disheartening) how many women today say “I don’t want to think about it” whether consciously or not
