I made this gentleman! The pattern is from AfriquePax, and it looked a little plain when I worked it up (and also I dropped what turned out to be magenta ink on it). My homosexual audacity kicked in and told me that surely I could figure out how to paint aida cloth. I wanted to make it more flowy and abstract, then I remembered that I am an extremely literal person.

You can see the texture here a little bit; I used some dry brushing to make the weave of the cloth stand out more in places. I used a mixture of my usual Culture Hustle palette and a cheaper ArtMinds one, and the difference was really interesting; the cheaper one was less vivid, obviously, but also much more oily? It kind of sat on the cloth instead of penetrating it unless I thinned it way down, so I did the detail work with the nicer paints.

Overall I like the effect! I think I'll definitely try it again. This is going to my brother for his birthday, so I'm gonna paint the hoop and clean it up that way.
