Maggie, our loving poodle, caught slumming at the county dump.
While the phrase may have origins as a hyperbolic way to communicate the most extreme shades of celebrity worship online, the joke’s popularity may also have to do with the fact that we’re living during a time when we’re constantly being reminded that the Earth is going to be virtually uninhabitable by the end of the century, that capitalism is wholly unsustainable, and that we’re just one push of a button away from perishing in a nuclear war. A breathless “run me over” matches our current fatalistic mood. Or, as writer Gretchen Felker-Martin, 29, poetically put it when asked at what point the masses started feeling this way, it was “the moment we realized the scales had tipped, the world is doomed, and the best we can hope for is to look at someone beautiful who loves us while we die.”

Bettina Perut and Iván Osnovikoff spent two years hanging out at the oldest skate park in Santiago, Chile, looking to gain a window into the lives of the folks who congregated their to skate their days away. The documentary they came away with, however, is arguably one million times better. They framed their film through the lives of two stray dogs, Football and Chola, that call the skate park home.

The Poem Defined
What is poetry? When no word should be added And none deleted.
[I’ve been reading a lot of poetry (actually a psychotic amount if you take the population norm as normal). Years ago, if you could understand it after multiple readings, it was not poetry. Nowadays, after reading a poem I wonder why, other than the broken lines on the page, it qualifies as a poem rather than badly typeset prose. I think I’ve finally caught the essence of a definition. But from there I wonder why prose shouldn’t be written according to the same measure. Otherwise, it’s just a hack.
