Blue Honey Yoga Runners' Club
Running has long since been a passion of mine. I have spent over half my lifetime enjoying the benefits of this activity (and experiencing a variety of running shoes!). The years have turned a simple practice into a lifestyle. Running has also led me to find other passions, including yoga.
I found yoga post injury when I was running at a collegiate level. As is most runners' usual story, I was more eager to hit the road/trail and deal with injuries only if they occurred… and they did.
My first experience with yoga was humbling as the practice revealed my weakness in core and overall strength, as well as limited flexibility. The beauty of this realization are the similarities I found in the two activities. Both require strength, focus, getting into the rhythm of movement, and attention to breath.
Whether you are a seasoned runner or you are new to running and are planning your first run, integrating yoga into your workout routine will benefit you. Although the two may lie on opposite ends of the exercise spectrum, they need not be mutually exclusive. Recognize the benefits of practicing both congruently. Let me help you!
Starting February 3, 2014, join me Lena Cano, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30AM for a 5K or as long as our feet will carry us and Saturdays at 9:00AM to build on what we have ran during the week. We will meet at Blue Honey Yoga. Post run, I will guide you through a yoga based stretch designed to improve our strength, flexibility, and overall running performance.
I encourage you to lace up your running shoes, but also learn to throw them off and hit the mat. Trust me, you will love the places you will flow!
