Review/Rant
So me being a huge fan of the movie The Beauty Inside, I was absolutely ecstatic when I heard about this drama being in production. and just HAD TO WATCH it. Now fast forward to almost a year later when I finally managed to finish it. Yeah I know, I started watching this when it was airing so you might be wondering why it took me so long to finish it.
I will say this, the story is not that bad and is actually very good minus some places where there's way too much filler. The acting is also pretty great minus some very badly executed crying scenes. The casting was excellent and despite those terrible crying scenes in some episodes, I can't imagine anyone else playing the roles of these well developed and unique characters. Also not only is there chemistry between the main leads but actually all the main characters and their families and even some side characters just have an excellent dynamic with each other in this drama and I really liked that. Somehow I can remember almost every character in this drama and that's amazing. This drama also has some of the best OSTs. They were so calming and beautiful. Just have a listen up my blog’s playlist because I’ve added in some of my favourites.
I also like how they mentioned Se Gye's dad in dialogues between her and her mum. I have this theory that Se Gye's dad could actually be Woo Jin from the 2015 movie. And he could've had a one night stand with her mum while he was drunk and in a different body. Either way Se Gye's dad just mysteriously disappearing really makes you conclude that he had the same "disease and passed it down to Se Gye.
So where could this drama have fallen short? Honestly it was the extreme amount of fillers and fluff along with the anti-climatic resolutions to certain conflicts that took me away. I found that around the middle I was really just forcing myself to watch it all and just took a break from this drama altogether.
I wish they had expanded more on the fact that Se Gye's ailment could've been discovered and exposed and then we could've explore how she overcame it all. But I did like how she put Chae Yu Ri in her place in the end; it was hilarious xD.
Another thing was, I don't like how Seo Do Jae just had to have his illness cured for it to become a Happy Ending. Prosopagnosia can't just be cured by a surgery, that's absolutely ridiculous wth. Now given this is a universe where Se Gye has what she has, it could be possible I guess. But I still think curing Do Jae's Prosopagnosia in the end because Se Gye was so overwhelmed with grief and guilt, is really sending out some wrong messages into society. I mean it's THE BEAUTY INSIDE so why did he have to get cured. Then again it was really adorable when he went around recognizing people and watching movies after his surgery so idk.
Also, Umi's boyfriend anyone? I'm so curious tbh I'm just going to tell myself that the actual Kang Ha Neul would've been cast to that role xD
