Each human being is a multiplicity of miracles. Eyes that see thousands of colors, shapes, and forms; ears that hear a bee flying or a thunderclap; a brain that ponders a speck of dust as easily as the entire cosmos; a heart that beats in rhythm with the heartbeat of all beings. When we are tired and feel discouraged by life’s daily struggles, we may not notice these miracles, but they are always there.

Verner Panton, Visiona 2, 1970.
Originally, the chemical giant Bayer had only chartered the Rhine boat “Loreley” to promote its synthetic fiber Dralon in a home textile exhibition right next to the Cologne furniture fair. However, after the Dane Verner Panton (1926 – 1998) had taken over the exhibition design in 1968 the perspective changed overnight – with a dedication to futuristic interior staging that absolutely lived up to the name Visiona.
In 1970 Visiona II was presented at the Cologne fair, an almost breathtaking interior staging wallowing in colors and forms. Of late, Marianne Panton, the designer’s widow being strongly bonded to her late husband’s work, has decidedly brushed aside the interpretation of the interior cave symbolizing an uterus. “Rubbish,” she says, “Verner simply wanted to stimulate all our senses.” That’s why every room had “its own sound and color atmosphere, its own smell” Marianne Panton adds. The appearance of things change according to the emotions, and thus we see magic and beauty in them, while the magic and beauty are really in ourselves.
