gingers on ice;;
mollysmayhem:
Molly didn’t know what was happening. She didn’t know if the feelings were real or if it was the drinks she’d had at the party. She was still holding his hand and looked down.
She felt butterflies. Molly Prewett wasn’t one for butterflies. Yet here she was.
When he put his coat over her shaking body, her gaze shifted to his. She saw confusion and thoughts pouring out of his head. She wanted to touch him but was unsure if she should or not. She felt like she was in a dream with an unexpected cameo performance made by Arthur Weasley.
Unexpected.
The boy standing there swept her off her feet with his wand, giving her ice skates. She fumbled a bit at first, but he caught the hand she wasn’t already holding. She stiffened and was as still as the ice she looked at. Finally, she loosened enough to really see him. His eyes, clear blue, his accidental smile and hair as red as hers. She never noticed how attractive he was. She risked falling and released her right hand. Molly hesitated, attempting to reach for his cheek.
She chickened out. Molly Prewett doesn’t chicken out. Yet here she was.
Then she slipped. Molly slipped right into Arthur. He was warm.
Molly shook her head as if she were clearing spiderwebs from her mind. She burst out laughing. She let go of Arthur, attempting to skate backwards.
“I might fall,” she teased as her legs shook, “Are you sure you’ve got me?”
The longer they spent out on the lake, the more and more Arthur began to realize this was no dream. He was skating with Molly Prewett and she was even wearing his jacket. After a few deep breaths and demands to himself that he wouldn’t screw this up, Arthur stood a bit taller, more confident than usual. There was too much on the line tonight to let his worries and anxiety get in the way.
And then she crashed into him. He caught her, of course, arms wrapping tightly around her body and holding her there for just a moment. Their eyes met and Arthur could’ve sworn that her heart was beating as fast as his, wasn’t it?
As soon as the moment had come it vanished and Molly pushed away from him, sliding backwards on the ice. Molly had issued a challenge and Arthur could only smile.
“Absolutely.” With two quick pushes from his skates, he was by her side again, arms wrapping around her waist as he helped her continue her journey backwards, using his own balance to keep her upright.
“The real question is do you want me...” He paused intentionally, wanting to read her face before continuing. “to catch you that is...”
