rip clay terran you would've LOVED project hail mary and the artemis ii launch. like guys this is happening in the year of apollo justice!! he probably made apollo rewatch phm with him multiple times (and they probably cried over rocky and grace). they probably stayed up late together watching the launch. when clay accepted that mission he probably thought of ryland grace and how to be brave. i am so unwell about this

I don't mind people not caring about Clay Terran (there are a lot of popular characters i don't care about too, I get it) but it kind of annoys me when people act all baffled about it. Being dead doesn't make a character impossible to like, especially when we're given enough general context to fill in things and realize his motivations & what impacts he had on the people around him.

Hell, i have a favorite character from a different series that you don't even see the face of, who died long before the game starts. You just hear people talking about him, and that's it. But he made a big impact on me regardless.

thinking about the fact that i made a horrible gross (23k word long??) ace attorney fanfic in high school that is bad and awful. I got a credit for it. I did not deserve that credit

some highlights of said fanfic are

Apollo runs into a door so hard he fucking obliterates it and breaks his wrist in the process. This is never relevant again

Clay does not know what GYAXA stands for despite working for them

Athena accuses Apollo of blowing up the courtroom and nearly killing her with all of the zeal of someone who just got their lunch stolen out of the office fridge

"A police stands up"

Apollo finds Thalassa murdered, after which I immediately jump cut to one year after apollo was fucking executed for her murder

I combined Apollo and Clay's spirits to make some weird mix of them, creatively named Aclay. He is inexplicably evil. He might be a demon? I hate this guy so much. I hate him so much that I still draw him sometimes out of spite it's literally so stupid

Halfway through the fanfiction I reveal that it had all just been a bad dream. Then I do it again. And again. and again. This happens at least seven times in quick succession.

"He kicks over a chair but sets it back up like a polite young man"

Trucy says "Wuzzup guys!"

Story ends with no moral and a vague implication that Clay was supposed to be an antagonist

i'm of the honest opinion that the thing is a cursed object and by continuing to look at it my sanity is slowly draining away

Admittedly don't have much more to say on this, aside from the fact I actually got the idea for this, oh... 2 years ago? I created a rough version on Procreate (back when I was still using that, I only used it for ~1 year before switching back to Krita)... but it never really turned into anything because I got stuck, lmao.

I've discovered the wonders of actually using references now, so... was a lot easier! I mean, the 2 years of practice (i.e. drawing random bullshit) did help, too.

I definitely headcanon Clay as having family from North Carolina because I'm from South Carolina

i see a lot of different headcanons from where his family is from (i can at least recall someone saying they headcannoned him being from Canada)

I suppose that's the one nice thing about knowing nothing about a character. More headcanons than normal are feasible

i always have an ungodly time trying to remember the order and number of the card suits on Trucy's cape, so I finally hastily scribbled up this reference for myself. Figured someone might also find it helpful, even if it's... very slapdash.

Yes, the artbook has a version printed, but it's small and I'd rather have something more immediately available for cross-checking.
