I bent my arrow, the arrowhead directly pointing between the eyes of a deer. „You will be a fine prey for me and the boys.“ I mumbled to myself as I prepared myself to let go. I was so concentrated on the animal that I didn’t notice the mist forming behind my back. „Hey, love.“ Peter suddenly whispered into my ear. He made me jump and I let go of my arrow, which of course missed its target. I turned around and looked at him, furious about having to let our dinner jump on through the forest. „Very well done, idiot.“ I said deadpan, looking him straight in the eyes, then started smiling. He put his arms around my waist and pulled me closer to him. „You know, for every deer that you hunt, I hunt ten of them.“ He said smugly, as always of course. „Oh shut up.“ I said and leaning in to give him a peck on the lips. He put his arm around my shoulder and we looked out into the wild for a moment. „So how about we get back to camp and I’ll show you my prey for the day.“ He said leaning against a tree. I took a quick but sharp look at him, his sharp jawline, his green, shining eyes almost hypnotizing me. His tense muscles and the smug look on his face, that sometimes still made me nervous. We fell in love a long time ago, seemed like an eternity, and still I felt like it was just yesterday he kissed me for the first time. For me nothing changed, and I assumed he’d feel the same about me. But things were about to change soon enough.
„Sierra. Can we talk?“ I asked the painfully beautiful newcomer to Neverland. I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time, sure I would not stay the only girl on the island forever. But damn she was beautiful and I had the feeling she could get dangerous for my relationship. She was just about to pick up some firewood and threw me a condescending look over her shoulder. I rolled my eyes at her and continued. „Now? I don’t have much time.“ She turned around and walked over to me. „What do you want?“ „You know exactly what’s going on.“ „Oh you mean that little incident with the camp the other day?“ She asked chuckling right into my face. „Yes that’s exactly what I mean. Not only were you disregarding my orders, you were also endangering the whole operation and additionally risking the life of your allies. Peter will not hear a word about this but it will not happen again, do you understand?“ I tried to stay as professional as I could, even offering her to protect her, but it didn’t seem to work out very well. She was just too big of a competition for me, and I at least partly let my emotions get into the way. „You’re just not telling him about it because you screwed up big time.“ She tried to argue against me but I cut her off. „That was it.“ I said and walked past her. She was kind of right. I screwed up, and I didn’t know how to tell Pan about it. I could sense her death stare resting on me but I didn’t care and I was late anyway, Peter would kill me for being late. He hated it.
Of course it didn’t take long for Peter to find out. And of course he blamed it all on me, because I was in charge of foreign affairs like stealing from other camps or blackmailing them into giving us what we wanted. I tried to explain to him that I tried everything to keep the group together but that Sierra went in alone and ignored my orders.
„That’s funny. Ever since she’s here you blame everything that goes wrong on her.“ He said condescendingly. „Yes, because she’s constantly standing in my way! Don’t you get it she wants to sabotage me!“ „That’s what you want to believe (y/n)! But I can see that you no longer are in the position to take on that much responsibility.“ „Are you kidding me? So, what, you’re gonna put her in charge instead?“ „That’s not what I said, see your jealousy is standing in the way of you and the possibility to keep your position.“ „Fine, you know what you can go and put whoever you want in charge but you know that nobody’s gonna be able to lead the group as well as I did. So go on, let them rush the camps and you’ll lose all your men.“ He looked at me doubtfully. „No one knows the territory as well as I do, they don’t know where the traps and the guards are. They’ll walk straight into their deaths.“ „I will handle this.“ He said, and turned around to walk away. „Yeah because you can always handle everything! Why don’t you trust me for once?! You are so caught up with yourself that you don’t even notice what I achieved the past few weeks! “ I yelled at him. He turned around, and suddenly he was right in front of me, backing me up against a tree. „Because you did nothing to gain my trust. You screwed the last three operations up and now you expect me to just get over it and look away? This is not how it works here, we’re all fighting to survive and everyone has to do their bit to make it work. I don’t care if you saved 50 operations, if you screw up one, we could all be dead by tomorrow.“ „See that’s what I mean. You’re an ass Pan, you seriously are. How can you be so delusional that you don’t notice what’s going on?“ I asked him looking at him confused about his clouded view on the situation. „I’ll go talk to Sierra and we’ll see how this turns out. Until then you’ll withdraw from your position.“ And with that he disappeared into a cloud of green mist. „Yeah, just run away. That’s what you always do.“ I mumbled to myself and started my way back to camp.
She saw movement from the corner of her eye. She was standing in front of the Lagoon, a very well chosen place. She knew that he would step out of the thicket at any moment, so she started to undress. First her blouse, then her pants, finally her underwear. She turned around to face him. „Oh Peter, I didn’t even notice you were here!“ He knew it wasn’t true, he moved closer, trying to focus on her eyes. „Sierra I have to talk to you.“ He said, still trying to stay focused on the important things. But suddenly the problem didn’t seem to be one anymore. He looked her up and down and moved even closer to her. „Do you like what you see?“ She asked seductively. „You know I’m taken.“ He said trying to resist the urge. „She will never know.“ He knew that was a lie as well, but he didn’t think about it anymore. He just felt their lips touch and how she quickly undressed him and pulled him towards the woods behind the trees where no one would see. He already felt miserable about it the moment he pulled up his pants again. „You know…“ Sierra started and tried to touch his shoulder, but he grabbed it firmly and pushed her hand away. „She will never forgive me for this, you knew this would happen, you provoked it. She was right about you, you little bitch. I want you gone, by afternoon. And if you’re not gone by then I will personally see to it.“ He said walking away.
Little did he know that (y/n) was watching him and Sierra. Sure she did not follow him, but she accidentally seemed to have something to do at the Lagoon. She had this feeling things would turn out like this and wanted to convince herself that Peter would never do something like this to her, but in fact it seemed like he didn’t even battle the urge, seemed like he had planned it all along.
„Where is she?“ He asked furiously around the camp. „Where is (y/n)?! If you don’t go find her for me I will kill every single one of you at this instant.“ „Peter.“ Felix put a hand on his shoulder. „What is it Felix?!“ Peter shouted out and pushed his hand away. „She knows.“ Felix said. „She knows what you did… back at the Lagoon.“ Peter looked at Felix incredulously. „How do you know?“ „She told me. She stayed as long as she could but at some point she couldn’t handle it anymore. I think she wants to leave Peter.“ „No one’s leaving without my permission.“ He said firmly. „She’s not leaving, I’m gonna make things right with her.“
He walked up to me, this time I noticed immediately. „Get out of my sight.“ I looked at him with disgust. „(y/n), please listen to me. There’s no excuse for what I did…“ „You’re right, there’s no excuse. Get out of my sight or I will rip your throat out.“ I bent my bow and pointed the arrow directly between his eyes this time. „One step closer..“ „(y/n).Please I’m so sorry. I know I hurt you, and I understand if you never can forgive me. I betrayed you and betrayed your trust as well. Please I’d do everything for you to forgive me.“ As I listened to his words my bow slowly sunk to the ground until I finally let go of it. Suddenly all emotions, the pain, the betrayal, the disgust came rushing down on me. I started crying and sunk to my knees, covering my face with my hands, sobbing loudly. Suddenly he was there, taking me into his arms, holding me tightly, as if I could break at any moment. And I was glad he was there to hold me. We’ve been through so much and I tried to let myself and my anger go. „I will make it up to you, I swear. And if it’s the last thing I’ll do.“ And I believed him and hoped that someday this would be nothing to me. That some day the pain would not be there anymore.
