abled people shouldn’t blame disabled people for things being inaccessible or put all of the responsibility of making things accessible on disabled people themselves, thank you for your time
Hey did y’all know that making it hard for disabled people to apply for and receive accommodations is the exact same as denying them any.
No, disabled people don’t owe you an explanation about how their disability affects them
No, disabled people don’t owe you the story of their disability
No, you don’t have a right to tell someone they don’t look disabled
No, you don’t have a right to be offended if a disabled person refuses to answer your questions
Abled people “stealing disabled recourses” is actually not as bad of a problem as abled people thinking they can police who is and isnt disabled to try and “catch fakers”.
Also js if an abled person uses an assistive device and finds it makes their lives easier and less painful maybe they should be using it and are indeed the target audience for it
An autistic person constantly tolerates things that are annoying to them.
Every once in a while, they’re unable to tolerate it, which causes them to have a meltdown.
Ironically, they’re then labeled as most annoying.
If you claim to help disabled people, but shut down our voices, you’re doing it wrong
mobility aids are wonderful!
mobility aids are beautiful!
mobility aids may be preventive!
mobility aids don’t make you less!
you’re valid!!
Don’t Chase Disabled Strangers
Especially not immediately after you’ve yelled at them for using the lift and you couldn’t fit.
Especially when you’re a rich cis white able-bodied man, particularly when they’re visibly none of those things.
Especially not to give some half-assed apology amidst a bunch of ablesplaining because you asked an out of context question to staff.
Don’t fucking abuse disabled people for existing, and don’t fucking chase us after the fact.

i hate that medical devices to accommodate disabilities are so stigmatized!!!
wheelchairs are normal! walkers are normal! canes are normal! braces are normal! speaking valves are normal! prosthetics are normal! feeding tubes are normal! catheters are normal! colostomy bags are normal! central lines are normal!
it doesn’t matter HOW someone became disabled, or WHY they need a device, it’s just important that they HAVE it and their life is BETTER!
(if i left anything out that you would like to add, feel free!!)
I don’t care if you had “good intentions”…
…if what you did had a negative impact on the other person.
Because you only see your “intentions” through your frame of reference and not theirs.
I don’t care if you thought teaching eye contact to an autistic is such a “useful” skill when it literally can cause us physical distress. Recent research has discovered that neurotypicals don’t really make eye contact either.
I don’t care if you thought teaching social skills to help autistics blend in with society was a positive thing when we’ve been screaming at you for decades that masking is a horrible thing and research is starting to prove that we were right all along. Suppression of autistic traits in autistic kids can lead to severe mental health issues as autistic adults and I will be the first to attest to that.
I’m sure my followers can go on all day about how this applies to all disabilities, sexual orientation and gender identity, race and ethnicity, religion and any other marginalized groups I may have missed. Before you try to “help”, come learn to see what actually helps us vs what society says that we “need”. Otherwise, you’re in the mindset of privilege of “I don’t know, but I think I do.”
Whether you should get accommodations or use adaptations or aids should be based on your needs.
Not on how badly you need it (if you need it, you need it).
Not on how “deserving” you are.
Not on proving to the ableds that you don’t have an entitlement complex.
Not on how “socially acceptable” the adaptation or aid is to the people around you.
Don’t let anyone convince you otherwise.
Stop normalising ableism!!!
Stop normalising bullying!!!
Stop normalising the discrimination of minorities!!!
People with disabilities/mental health issues are allowed to celebrate their small victories
This should read “everyone is allowed to celebrate their small victories”
Our society has it so backwards because we consider people to be more disabled they are visibly disabled, when those disabled people would quite likely be more disabled if they didn’t have their mobility or communication aids or suppressed their stimming or whatnot.
if your version of equality doesn’t include disabled people then shame on you
