after sitting with the results of world scout and witnessing the responses i have much to say about the public reception and treatment of Sakura

we live in an era of social media where people are incapable of stifling their negative opinions and insist on making them known at the expense of immensely disrespecting the things and people they dislike

people don’t recognise the world is far bigger than their takes

Sakura is so so young, FIFTEEN years of age, and everyone is disturbingly comfortable with insulting her. do these ppl not disgust themselves ?? she has immense potential, is already showing improvement, and seems super kind

thinking Ayana should have won is not inherently wrong, but putting others down to “uplift” their favourites isn’t uplifting them at all ?? they would DESPISE these people for the things they say

as a society we need to un-normalise being a sore loser & place more of an emphasis on if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all, not every thought you have is some profound shit that needs to be shared publicly 🫩

to wrap this up positively tho, i’m super excited for Saint Satine’s debut and have a lot of faith in them !! they have soo much potential and talent 🙂‍↕️

i think the discussion surrounding the controversial ify and rachel reddit stories episode (and general controversial smosh takes by extension) really emphasises the importance of being 👏 able 👏 to 👏 critique 👏 the 👏 content 👏 creators 👏 you 👏 consume 👏

one of the best parts of smosh reads reddit stories is people with vastly different upbringings and life experiences being able to share their perspectives, but obviously that gives leeway for objectively bad/harmful opinions to be shared (esp by those who haven’t had to deal with many hardships, those who come from wealth/are inherently privileged, etc)

*my* life experiences inherently shape my perspectives, my upbringing isn’t one any of the smosh cast members have lived, so of course i’m not going to always agree with the things the cast members say !!

i’m not sure where this whole parasocial “i can’t disagree with my idols!!” thing came from, but i’m really sick of it and its absurd lack of nuance .. you don’t know these people !! your opinions on a person should not prevent you from being able to disagree with any insensitive comments they may make !!

this is such a nothing burger take but i’ve never understood the “Rarity should have been a crystal pony!!” thing .. ??

assuming that the crystal ponies *have* to live in the crystal empire (since we never hear about crystal ponies living elsewhere), Rarity wouldn’t have been able to be a part of the main cast until S3 …..

also generally i feel like that perspective erases one of the biggest parts of her character ?? she’s a small town girl who doesn’t come from regality or wealth, she idolises said things and they act as huge motivators in her pursuit of fashion and high society !!
