ran isn’t particularly good in formal situations—not ones where she’s not pretending to be someone or something else, anyway. she’s leaning against a wall, deck of cards out and shuffling them constantly, occasionally flicking one into the air or up her sleeve. it’s not late enough to get drunk ( and in all honesty, she doesn’t feel in the mood for drinking at all today ) or to leave—and she’s not sure she wants to, but she hates feeling useless, hates idling without purpose when it’s not in a familiar setting. “ so, ” she says, raising one brow at the person standing closest to her, “ do you want to see a magic trick? ”
despite his reluctance to attend tonight, puppy seems entirely in his element among the glitz and glamour. there is something to be said for how at ease the advisor looks, here — relaxed, almost, even though his shoulders remain taut as ever with wary attention. with the flat of his palm pressing gently against the front of his blazer, he approaches a side of the room. there, ran fidgets with a deck of cards; a hint of intrigue finds its way to the corner of his lips, and he hovers close enough to draw her attention before she speaks. “i expect you’re very good at that,” pup says in lieu of a proper answer at first, though he warms to the idea quickly, smile lopsided when he adds, “show me your best one.”
a shirtless joonhyuk was hunched over the sink in his hotel room while staring at his reflection, drops of water running down chiseled cheeks before landing in the basin with a small splash. he doesn’t want to go to this thing — he really, really doesn’t. unfortunately, he knew if he failed to make an appearance then at least one of the other members would come fetch him sooner or later. the sound of a knock confirming this suspicion but not without a small huff of annoyance from the raven haired male. he must not have been moving fast enough as said person proceeded to knock three more times in a quicker manner. ❛ calm down, ❜ he calls out before reluctantly unlatching the door, ❛ i’m not finished getting ready. ❜
hong kong, in puppy’s mind, is a city in limbo. for him, it sits somewhere between new and eerily familiar — he notes, very hazily, its relative proximity to mainland china; but the city’s identity is distinctly separate from what he knows, and the streets call to him in a dialect he doesn’t fully understand. he may be closer to shanghai than he’s been in years, but he’s never felt further from who he used to be. all things considered, he’s in little mood to attend the gathering — but still he is dressed early, suit pressed and posture diligent as he finds himself in front of joonhyuk’s room. he knocks politely, though perhaps too rapidly: a minor slip of his unsettled nerves. when the door opens before him and the driver stands half-dressed, pup’s lips quirk in amusement. “you’re ill-prepped,” he says, striding through the door a little too comfortably before casting a glance around the room. “do you need help finding something pretty to wear?” his expression appears disinterested, almost lazy; but there’s a glint in his eye and a comfortable, near playful lilt to his voice.
( yang yang, cismale, he/him, 28. ) — WOLFGANG LIU, better known to the media as REVENANT has been working for the yōkai for around TWO YEARS. rumor has it, he can be ASTUTE & METICULOUS but also GREEDY & MANIPULATIVE which is why he makes the perfect ADVISOR. ( lexa, she/they, 21, gmt+8. )
hey all! the name’s lexa, and i’m so crazy excited for this group?? heists are my jam and pup here is a muse i’ve had for some time that i’ve really only had opportunity to flesh out in indie, so i’m incredibly excited to bring him here!! below the cut you’ll find some quick ramblings, but if you’d like additional info you can find it in the third tab on his theme!
i don’t have a picture of his mask yet bc everything i found isn’t quite right, but until i can find one/whip one up: it’s a sleek, clean-looking, ceramic half-mask resembling the features of a wolf painted in black and silver!
anyway! wolfgang liu, colloquially known as puppy or pup to friends and allies, comes from the grittier streets of shanghai. he was raised on petty thievery and small time crime, an angry kid with nothing to lose and everything to prove.
he clawed his way up in the world and eventually became involved with black market auctions, which led to him earning many contacts, and — at a point soon after having left china for japan — a position within the yokai.
can fight, and will fight dirty, but rarely chooses to as a first response. guns and knives are familiar tools to him, but he much prefers to talk (aka lie or bargain) his way out of trouble than to exert the effort of raising a hand.
likes to think he’s two steps ahead of everyone at any given time, but really, puppy’s strength is more in improvising. he can plan and he can scheme, but he shines brighter in the moment itself.
also likes to keep his life highly compartmentalised, but the members of the yokai seem not to care too much for his boundaries. (in other words, he’s forming bonds he never exactly wanted to.)
currently works a ‘day job’ as the owner of an independent art gallery, working with local artists and art brokers. very lowkey but very high class. it’s a dimly lit, glassy, minimalist building in downtown tokyo.
does actually love art as more than just a cover story. it was probably the only thing he liked in school. he especially enjoys charcoal drawings, and you can find a little atelier in his home showcasing his work, though he’s very private about it.
looks calm and composed all the time, almost as if he doesn’t really feel — but he does, just in quiet, subdued ways. his external stoicism is simply a defence mechanism, much the same as aggression or humour can be for others.
greedy, and always seeking to improve upon his skills and his wealth. despises the idea of complacency. hates his past, and will not talk about it. shed the skin of ‘poor street rat’ long ago. he left that boy behind in shanghai.
pup presents himself as poised, courteous, and charming, every little part of him in its rightful place, rehearsed and practiced and cultivated. but there are traces still of the angry, ambitious, aggressive young boy from his youth.
