There's a lot of different feelings going on - sadness I think, is the most overwhelming one cause it's been part of my life for so long now. And there's a lot of changes that come with that, too. Being proud of myself isn't something that comes naturally to me, if we're being honest. Feels odd to say it. Thanks, mate. I appreciate that a lot. No one is ever going to know it's a paint by numbers cause I'm that good at covering the lines. I'll just say I followed Bob Ross.
i hear that, man. i think in our line of work, it can be especially challenging to give oneself due credit, you know? and even more so when you're constantly aware of the critics while also trying not to take everything to heart. but let me say it loud and clear on your behalf: you fucking killed it, don't sell yourself short. and now, not only that, but i get the honor of watching you thrive as an artist: our twenty first century paul cézanne.
Os, explain to me how you managed to work with Guillermo del Toro before I did. That’s honestly not fair. If you end up working with Alfonso Cuarón before I do, I’m actually going to riot. Like full telenovela meltdown. I’m jealous in the most supportive way possible. How did it go? And what’s been keeping you busy lately, besides stealing all the best collaborators? / @blvdisaac
complete dream, eiz. that's the only way to put it. i don't think i've ever had so much fun on a set in my life, you know, he's the best. i'll start pestering him now to get into contact with you though because, honestly, it'd be a missed opportunity for him to not work with someone as insanely talented as you. now, alfonso cuarón? listen, i won’t lie to you. i already pray, light candles, talk to the universe, all that jazz for the chance to work with him someday, but i'll start tacking on "and please put eiza on that set with me" to the end of my begging too, if it helps. ahh, thing have been a little chaotic on my end: figuring out how to navigate the two-house situation with the boys as smoothly as possible, running around here and there for frankenstein press... but it's finally settling down a bit. how about you? you headed on this lapland trip coming up?
that's probably the best silver lining one can find in a situation like this. shit, you got me. there's nothing i love more than shit talking so let me spill. obviously the answer is jensen ackles. the supernatural fans are gonna jump me for it but that's a hill i'm willing to die on. now, how'd you and the space daddy meet? that's the story i want to hear.
as a world-class shit talker myself, i have to say i have a good feeling about where this friendship will take us... and by that i mean i'm really hoping we can find a bar in lapland, grab the strongest thing they’ve got, and just sit there talking trash about people for a couple of hours or so until someone kicks us out. ahh, as for me and my space sister, we met during an off-broadway show way back in 2005, the beauty of the father. twenty years of being stuck with that man, can you imagine? twenty. i keep trying to return him but i lost the receipt and customer service stopped answering my calls awhile back.
I can honestly say I think my son would have done anything to change places with you working on the Star Wars movies. With that being said I have to know, if you could have changed places with anyone to be apart of a movie, which role and movie would you choose and why?
@blvdisaac
ahh, that's a tough one... i mean, if we're talking purely wish-fulfillment, my favorite movie of all time is dog day afternoon. ignoring the whole concept of time and reality, i would’ve died to be in that film in any capacity. but at the same time, it’s perfect as is, you know? in reality, i don’t think i’d change a thing. what about you? if you could swap places with someone for a role, who’re you choosing?
It could be, but you can't be too sure of that right? You can never fully tell. Does it bother you or are you completely good with that? Then again hey maybe you could pull off the whole look like I think you hinted at. Ohhh...That would be nice of you to do something like that. Not a lot would out that offer up. I don't really know of anyone but if I did might send them your way.
ha! no, it doesn't bother me at all. honestly, i think it's pretty sweet. at the ages they're at, i'm choosing to take it as a compliment. fast-forward ten years, though, when they're teenagers? nope. devastating, ego-shattering. hey, i appreciate the vote of confidence! maybe it's time i consider retiring from acting and entering the mall santa circuit. i’m oscar, by the way... not actually santa, despite recent evidence to the contrary. hope that’s not too disappointing.
I think it's kind of cool that you give the Santa Claus vibe off to your kids, though, and that the gray creeping through is what really sells it. And I feel like your kids probably find comfort in it, you know? Or at least I would. But also, you're making me thankful that my daughter is under 2 and can't really humble me just yet. But she will push me away sometimes in favor of wanting to spend more time with the dog, and I'm a little humbled by that, but my dog is pretty awesome too, so I kind of get it? So, do you think you could come to Philly and play Santa for my daughter? Because she didn't like the mall one all that much yesterday, in fact, it was a full-on meltdown with tears. But I feel like she would like you.
see, that's the way to look at it! there are definitely worse things to be compared to than santa claus, right? and honestly, getting to see and experience the holiday magic through their eyes again is really special. beyond that, i'm trying to savor being humbled by them while it's still cute, you know, before they hit the teenage years and really go for the jugular. as for philly? yeah, say the word. i'll make the day trip, bring the boys as my elf entourage. and if she's not sold on me, i'll pull out the real secret weapon: our dog. santa paws never fails. but anyway, how're you doing, man? going to lapland? i'm determined to find a minute to hang out with you while we're out there.
with the hype of frankenstein, i'm really interested in seeing where yours and jacob's careers end up going. feel like it was such a huge movie and one of those ones that could be career changing. have the scripts started flying in yet? what's lined up for you next? i want to hear all about it. @blvdisaac
ahh, honestly, i think i passed the phase of career-changing and slid straight into career-creaking a long time ago. at this point, i'm just the old man they dust off whenever they need someone brooding with gray hair. no, but truly, things stay pretty steady for me and i'm grateful for it. but jacob? that kid is unreal. as a person, as an actor... watching him soar has been such a blast. i do have a few things lined up, yeah. there's a vampire film with kristen and lizzie, some voice work for spider-man, a series with the brilliant ana de armas... a lot of good stuff on the horizon. and then, of course, the lapland trip coming up. are you going? something tells me the cold is going to humble all of us real fast.
as long as i’m on the official podium of the isaac family favorites, i can sleep at night. i’ll keep working on my ranking though, those kids are too cute not to be tough competition. i told you! it deserves to actually get used, not just sit in a corner and look pretty… even though it does look pretty. i expect a full jam session invite at some point, by the way, i’ll sit there like a proud son. i should’ve smuggled at least a little pão de queijo into my suitcase for you, my bad. splitting the kids between houses can’t be easy, but it sounds like you’re doing it right, just making sure they feel good through it all. they’ve got a really solid dad, even if he’s trying to pretend he’s not a softie. do you guys do anything specific for the holidays? like traditions? honestly, kind of just family stuff, nothing too wild this year. i’m looking forward to chilling out, eating everything in sight, watching my parents get emotional over absolutely nothing, the usual.
no one can replace you as second, kid... just don't tell elordi or chalamet or any of them that i said so. there's something about realizing how old you are based on the amount of dad roles you've played... anyway, forget it, i digress: mads and eugene love you to death, too, so you're not fighting uphill there. yeah, man, you know you're welcome by any time! it is tough, and it feels harder around the holidays, but elvira and i are working hard at making sure it's as smooth as possible. she's great, so it's going to be okay... and thank you for the kind words, it means more than you know. just trying to be the best dad i can be, you know? ahh, i'll probably have my side of the family over, big get-togethers are the thing. it'll be good for me and the boys. excessive dancing, singing, drinking, eating... all that good stuff. and i'm excited about this trip to lapland coming up! will you be there? maybe we can get together at some point while we're out there.
all i'm saying is you better get some recognition this award season for frankenstein. love that jacob got a critics choice nomination but you should have too. you deserve it. with that said this is me saying we need to hang out again. the gotham awards wasn't enough. / @blvdisaac
that means the world, jen, thank you. jacob's a good kid, you know? really brilliant, so i feel like a proud dad watching the nominations and kudos roll in for him, guillermo, and the team. speaking of which: huge congratulations on the golden globe nomination for die, my love! i'm really proud of you, though i'm not surprised. maybe we can celebrate together sometime in lapland, my treat?
Great, we have just formed the delinquent class on Monday morning. Ah I kid. Can't really complain about anything that gets them excited about history or the world around them. I say we get hot chocolate, and welll the kids definitely will want it then too, and all meet up for the first tour. Schools may be bugging for a note but we will be the coolest dads for about 15 minutes in New York.
oh, no this is purely a classic dad-manipulation tactic: remember that time i let you stay from school to ride the staten island fairy? because now you gotta do your homework without complaining. no, not really: they're good kids, you know, and i think it'd be a good time. so yeah, man, i'm game if you are. forget five minutes of fame, i’ll take 15 minutes of being the coolest dads in new york any day. that’s no easy feat!
you know... i was also wondering the other day what augustus meant when he said he "saw santa" after the playdate we had with your boys. i guess mads was the inspiration for that hilarious conclusion. honestly, no need to take it as an insult. i'll be right by your side if you need a mrs. claus. though, with redder hair more than gray. we can be the hot shoo-ins for when people take their picture with santa and the missus at the mall or something. gotta put this new talent to use!
did he actually? you realize this means giulietta finally broke the tie and she's my favorite now, right? no, i'm kidding: if augustus wants me to be santa, you know i'm suiting up. besides, if you're right there at my side as mrs. claus... who am i to complain, right? something tells me we’d make the mall photo circuit ridiculously competitive.
They always say it's your own kids that always humble you, right? So they're just keeping that up with you, and I have to agree, friend, you do look like Santa Claus with all that grey you've got going on in that beard of yours. Sounds to me like they were just calling it like they see it, and you got to respect that. Though, obviously, I'm looking for you to play Papa Noel for my next holiday event. I wasn't even having one, but now I am going to just for you to be Santa. I'll even get you the perfect suit to wear, don't worry about a thing.
well, they only said that because they haven't seen you in a minute, abuelito. you know, they're missing their uncle pedro... and maybe i'm missing you too, but don't count on me saying that again. and, by the way, if you're really trying to drag me into this papa noel gig for your holiday party, at least admit it's because you want to sit on my lap and tell me what you want for christmas this year, sheesh. subtle doesn't suit you, pedrito.
the way you know how to get back in my good graces is exactly why i could never let you go. hm, maybe i'll let the heart grow a little fonder with your absence so that the trip that we're all taking next week can be much more special. where we going again? land where i sit in your lap or something like that, right? lapland, i think it was... then we can get dinner, do the belated celebrations and go to kiss land and sex land directly after?
lapland, kiss land, sex land… ay, baby. it sounds like you've got this whole trip mapped out for us, huh? and here i was thinking i'd spend the week making up those ten penalty points one wholesome activity at a time... but, you know, if you're offering this express route, don't blame me when i don't bother unpacking and come find you first.
@blvdisaac
Soooo it's the holidays! I'd like to invite you and the kids to come to Washington, D.C. on December 13th to witness John Cena's final match. I'll pay for flights and hotel, and John already said that he'd be more than happy to meet the boys, and then of course I 'll be there...in a way, and we can all get food and celebrate Mr.Cena's final match! OH and Cody has already decided he's signing merch for them. I"m sure Punk and the others would too!
char... you really didn't have to. seriously, that means more than i can put into words, to both the boys and myself. with everything that's been going on, something like that means a lot. i really appreciate it and you. and, you know, it's perfect timing because the boys actually have a surprise for you. i won't spoil it, but... i hope your tree has a little extra room for some hilariously, lovingly home-crafted ornaments.
Oscar Isaac attending SAG-AFTRA last night.
man, i gotta tell you that i'm shocked you didn't win dilf of the year. for sure thought you had that in the bag after all the frankenstein hype. not to mention that there's a certain someone on there that def shouldn't have made the top 5. don't ask me who because my lips are sealed but this shit is my super bowl and i'm boo'ing it real hard this year. next year is yours though! i just know it. @blvdisaac
you vote of confidence means the world, man, truly. my ego is still deeply wounded, you know? but i've been trying to find the silver lining in all of this, and i think i finally got it: even if i can't claim the dilf of the year title, i do get to give my best friend absolute hell for stealing it from me for the rest of our lives, and honestly? that's almost just as good. now, i'm not going to be the guy who gets into other peoples' business and asks who shouldn't have made the list... but...
