Third page of my storyboard.
Above is my final clip. I wanted to focus on the idea that media design, in particular animation, can start with a simple thought of the imagination. I showed this by creating a short narritive about a girl who wakes up in a world of empty space. Feeling restless, she uses her imagination to create her own world.
Page one and two of my storybaord. I drew inspiration from japanese manga for this story board
Above is a contact sheet of all drawings so far. These are currently in pencil but will be converted to ink later on.
Development - Music
After looking for music i came across this website. From here, i have found many interesting songs that i could possibley use for my clip. This site isgood as i can choose the sound i am after. For example, relaxing, somber, uplifting etc. I will continue to look for music, however this website is very promising if i did not find any other useful websites.

After asking the opinion of a few people i have decided that i will use this costume design for my character to wear in the final clip. Personally, i like this costume the best as it is simple so therefore, will be easy to draw and also because it looks good.
These are costumes which i designed for my character to wear in my clip.

Development - Character design
This is the character which i have designed for my clip. I chose to design a simple character as this way it will be easier for me to draw her time and time again.
Interim Clip
By taking photographs of each drawing rather than scanning the images in, the result of the video is much more successful. This is because, the images line up better by using a tripod and as a result the images are not jumping side to side like my previous test video. I am pleased with the result and will continue to photograph my drawings this way.
Development
After creating my test sample i have decide that i will need to create more frames. This is because the clip doesn't run as smoothly as i would like. From here i will draw frames in between the frames i have already created. Initially i intended to do 12 frames per second however, because of the jumpiness i am now going to attempt to do 24 frames per second.
I created this test sample by photocopying the drawings i had done on butter paper. I created this on Movie maker as i will not have access to Premiere until the next few days. I have notice that by photocopying the images, the scanner has cut off some of the drawing. As a result the eye looks as though it moves side to side at one point. I intend to photograph my drawings from now on as i will be able to make sure all images are even by using a tripod. Also, by photographing I hope the grainy look of the paper will be removed as will the creases of the paper. From here, I intend to put these drawings into ink rather than pencil.
Standpoint
Every creation, everything that has ever been designed by man, began with a thought. From this single thought an idea grew and a new development began.
I believe, in media design, in particular animation, every final outcome starts with a single idea - an idea from the imagination. Without imagination people would not be able to come up with solutions to problems. We would simply be stuck in the same place, in the same time, never growing or learning, never moving forward.
Through my stop motion I wish to show the idea that a world can be formed with the beginnings of imagination. Through imagination, we can produce anything our mind can think of. And from this we can create our own worlds and can grow “a new way of seeing.”
“Animation can explain whatever the mind of man can conceive.” – Walt Disney.
I wish to show that things people could only dream of can become reality through animation.
Walt Disney is a great example of how something so small, such as an idea from the imagination, can grow into something beyond his dreams.
“Mickey Mouse popped out of my mind onto a drawing pad 20 years ago on a train ride from Manhattan to Hollywood at a time when business fortunes of my brother Roy and myself were at lowest ebb and disaster seemed right around the corner.”
This simple imagined character, Mickey Mouse, started from a sketch and is now one of the world’s most recognised cartoon characters. “Steamboat Willie” was the world’s first cartoon with synchronized sound. And thus, Walt Disney changed the entertainment industry to what we know today.
I will also show how animation is a development - starting from something small, such as a sketch, and progressing into something larger. I intend to show these ideas by the way I will make the word grow within my animation.

Development
I intend to hand draw each frame individually. This is so I can create an effect similar to that of 2D animated. Iwill draw key frames for my stop motion. I will then draw other frames in between theseintend to draw these frames on tracing paper so I can see each frame beneath. This will save me time and effort as I will not have to draw each image individually but rather, trace the previous frame and change it slightly each time. This technique is known as the cell and paper – the onion skinning technique. This is so it is easier for me to draw what is happening. Also, it will help me to know what direction the drawing needs to be taken in.
This will be the easiest way to produce my drawings as it will guide me so i wont be simply guessing what frame is next. This will make the animation more accurate and flow more smoothly.

Group Work Task Two
“Kasi” is an athletics wear company that specialises in sports shoes. Anyone who plays sports will want to get their hands on a pair of these.
For this 15 second advertisement, my group and I wanted to take what we had done from our original poster and bring it into our clip. By using photoshop, we created approximately 160 singular frames which we then streamed together using movie maker. We wanted to use a lot of colour to show the energy and youthfulness that having a pair of Kasi shoes can bring. Our choice of music was also influenced by the idea of youth and energy. We wanted an upbeat and enthusiastic piece of music that inspires people to get up and go play sports. “Let’s Go” by Calvin Harris was our final choice, as we all agreed that this expressed the energy we intended to get across. By using WavePad Sound Editor we were able to cut the song appropriately.
We decided to use the effect of flashing light waves to express our slogan, “The Gift of Speed”. The streams of colour were intended to be the light waves. We used this effect because, when photographing a fast moving object using a slow shutter speed, streams of light are usually the only things that are captured. My group agreed that we should have the shoe grow from the centre of the frame as if it were being presented as a gift to the viewer. This was to, once again, enhance the idea of our slogan.
Overall, I feel my team worked really together in this project. I am pleased with the final outcome of our clip and I feel the music we choose works well.
