Denki blinked a few times as he looked at Sero. “Oh...oh!” Denki said as it clicked as he gave Sero a experimental push to see if he’d keep his balance. “Uh...Ser, you’re kind of risking a lot doing it on school grounds, you know?”

Oh. That was right. Midnight joined the ranks of fallen on their last encounter with Shigaraki. He supposed if anyone could have taught the subject, it would have been her.

Though her salacious behavior around children always felt a touch wrong to Endeavor, that didn’t mean she deserved… that. Recalling the report of how she was discovered, he winced. No one deserved the deplorable state the poor woman was found. In congruence, the children should never have been the ones to find her.

She must have meant a lot to the faculty and students. Enji reached out to offer some semblance of comfort. The goal: a simple pat on the shoulder. However, the too-wide grin returned to Mic’s face. Why was it so big? It kind of creeped Enji out. His hand fell back to his side, unsure of how to read the other’s behavior.

“Maintenance…?”

Was he trying to pick a fight? Emasculate him? Well, Enji didn’t find that funny. The more Mic snickered about it, the hotter his flames and face grew. “Excuse me, but I know far more than you do on the topic. Last I checked, you have no children or wife.”

Stomping passed the total beta male (in Enji’s opinion) he took up the lead once more. “Thankfully, you didn’t teach the topic, or the children would be completely lost.” Only left to know the love of their own fists–

Ugh, what a crass thought… He meant for that last dig to be the final word on the topic, not wanting his mind to slip any lower.

A wiser man would have known to back away from an angered beehive, but Mic was no wiser man. But nor was he in the mood to be offended; he knew that if Endeavor saw Aizawa in nothin’ but one of those skimpy jockstraps of his, there was no way he’d be able to blame Mic for not wanting nor needing a wife.

He didn’t really know which way the fiery hero swung, but some asses were powerful enough to turn the tide itself.

“Hey!” Mic called out, grin now simmered down to a toothy smirk as he jogged after his partner. “Just ‘cause I haven’t had any little guys of my own, doesn’t mean I ain’t tryin’! But for real, though…” He’d caught up now, but was keeping his distance. Years of dealing with a certain crabby ninja had taught him to keep out of swinging range when his mouth got away from him.

“You’re serious, then? Are you sayin’ you haven’t let up on that pressure gauge in … how old’s your youngest? Fifteen, right? Fifteen years?!” Mic’s mind was sufficiently blown. “Forget pent up! You must be ready t'blow at any moment! How do you not moan like an overpaid porn star every time a stiff wind blows, man?”

Logically, Mic knew he must be mistaken. Endeavor must have blown a load or five at least once a year. But, then again … it would explain his up-tight attitude if he really didn’t.

The audacity of this man! Attempting to conceive out of wedlock?! That was extraordinarily irresponsible. Yes, he saw the irony of his criticism, seeing how his own family turned out, but he couldn't just allow this boy to continue a dangerous lifestyle without saying something.

"Having children outside of marriage isn't something you should be pursuing. They need a stable environment to thrive in, love and care from both parents. They need to really be seen, to feel like they matter..."

Trailing off, a regretful shadow fell over Enji's heart, chilling it. At least it cooled his face down. He cleared his throat before continuing, "You also risk your own health if you are non monogamous." Satisfied he covered all bases, he spared Mic a glance, the edge taken off his irritation.

Obviously, his advice went right over the talkative idiot's empty head. He was still smiling away as if Enji hadn't spilled what he learned from his own mistakes. What could possibly--

He whipped around to face him fully. Jaw falling open, he gaped at him. Every inch of visible skin quickly turned the same shade as the fire dancing over his face. It was impossible to misinterpret this.

"You! I..." His tongue stumbled over words as the indignant fury built up the longer he failed to conjure a comeback. "Watch your mouth, boy!!!" Eventually, everything boiled over with a giant gust of steam. He overheated himself.

Mic was completely oblivious to Endeavor’s struggle through the narrow side alley, mostly because it didn’t seem nearly as narrow to him. He simply listened, and nodded. Yeah, that was right, Endeavor had met his son’s two best buds already.

Not that Mic would have ever guessed either of them would ever be “promising”. But they really had pulled through and surprised everyone.

The nodding stopped when the subject of sex ed came up, and not out of awkwardness, but out of remorse. The face of a departed friend flashed through his mind like an unexpected punch to the gut. “Yeah, their sex ed teacher won’t be teachin’ much of anything anymore. But I wouldn’t worry; if I knew Midnight as much as I think I did, she taught ‘em everything they needed to know. … And then some.” That last part was mumbled. Mic always felt like a woman probably shouldn’t be teaching the guys about sex, that they should have a guy teaching the guys. But he knew all too well that if he said anything, they just make him do it, and he wasn’t about that.

He stopped then, turning to finally face his partner now that there was room to walk side-by-side again. The look at the towering man’s face instantly destroyed any lingering bitterness in Mic’s heart. What was that look for?! He couldn’t even look at Mic! Was he really that bashful? Was it because of the subject of sex in general, or just sex relating to his kids?

“Honestly, I’m more worried about you needin’ a good sex ed talk.” Mic added, unable to hide the snickering in his voice. “I mean obviously you’ve got the basics down, but has anyone ever taught you about the, y'know, the maintenance part of it?”

Enji squinted at himself in the mirror. Why did a few drinks make everything... more apparent? His chest looked gargantuan in this shirt, bigger than Rei's could ever hope to be. Narrowing his eyes further, he hooked an index finger in the low-cut collar of the tank top, dragging it lower. Yep, there it was, a long crease where two hills of muscle met. His pecs looked very much like cleavage right now.

W... Was this why Hawks was always staring?!

Our beef? Did Endeavor think he was talking about the argument type of beef? Probably for the best. He didn’t need Endeavor thinking he was being hit on.

Would he even notice if he was? Definitely not. Hawks could attest to that one.

The moment flames burst from the number one hero’s heels, Mic took a few steps back without even thinking about it. He watched Endeavor ascend up into the air, feeling a bit of envy, and not for the first time. The man had a built-in jetpack, on top of everything else he had going for him? Money, fame, a family, a mountain of beef, and a jetpack? How was that even fair?

Whatever. While Endeavor was up there doing whatever he was doing, Mic took a good look around, finishing his drink and tossing the empty can into the nearest trash bin (Aw yeah, nothin but net.) This part of town had survived better than some other parts, but it was still pretty trashed. Were they gonna have to–

Mic let out a big, dramatic sigh of relief when his patrol partner silently suggested they take an alternate path. He wouldn’t have put it past the guy to suggest they clean up this gigantic mess while they were here. He guessed he’d give the guy a break … for now.

“Yeah, he’s a good kid. Real bright, lots of friends.” Mic slipped his hands into his pockets and began walking down the alternate path. At least they hadn’t come across any other people out here. It was … real quiet. “Real popular with the ladies, too. Not that he seems to notice.”

In that way, he sort of reminded Mic of a young Shouta. Although, it was possible that thinking the ladies were all over the guy when they were kids may have been his imagination.

If only Mic knew the twisted underbelly his family did their best to hide all these years... Actually, Touya basically shared it with the whole of Japan, so he should realize Enji was no one to be envious of.

Following behind Mic, Enji was forced to shift slightly to keep his broad shoulders from brushing the brick walls on either side of them. While his companion passed through with ease, it was a tighter fit for the larger man. If only the commission paired him with another hero capable of flight; times must have been desperate.

"Yes, I've met two of them. Midoriya and Bakugou have interned with me at my agency. Promising kids, the both of them." His shoulders got caught a moment, forcing a grunt from him as he pulled himself free. Ladies, though? That was... concerning. Shoto didn't need to be distracted by hormones, or worse, teenage pregnancy.

"Let's keep it that way. I don't want his career derailed." That came off as something old Endeavor might spout off, but he only intended to protect his son.

He paused awkwardly when they reached the opposite end of the alley. "Have the children received classes on..." Even through the heat of his flames, Enji felt blood fill his face. Ugh, they were both grown men, this wasn't something to feel shy about. "Sexual education," he concluded, looking anywhere other than Present Mic.

Not because he felt awkward! They... they were supposed to be patrolling! He was doing his job!

Enji’s brow scrunched under his mask of fire. This wasn’t the first time he’d been asked that. True, same-sex couples were far more accepted nowadays, but there had to be some specific reason he kept getting asked about Hawks. They worked together unofficially in the past, but they served completely different agencies normally.

“You teach Shoto English at UA, so you must know I’m his father.” It was public knowledge, in fact. “You even spent extra time with him when he failed the provisional licensing exam, leaving no excuse for being oblivious…”

He trailed off for a moment, scanning the area as an excuse to think. Most people, when defending their own relationship, would claim they were happily married. Enji couldn’t bring himself to say the same. He ruined any chance of that for Rei. Only paperwork bonded them together now.

“I have a wife,” he concluded bluntly.

A clunk of metal thankfully turned his attention back to the vending machine. A pink can sat in the slot at the bottom, perhaps shaken loose when Enji moved the frame. Scooping it up, he offered it to Mic, quickly so he didn’t heat up the aluminum. Being near him in a full leather outfit must have been sweltering. He needed a cool drink more than Enji.

Yes, he had asked before, and no, he didn’t plan on stopping until the answer was yes. But it sounded as if the poor guy was still strutting his stuff to an empty room. Mic was feeling frustrated for the winged hero out here!

“Okay yeah, I figured, but rumor has it–” the can thrust into his line of site mercifully shut him up for a second, stopping him from shoving his foot in his mouth. “uh, thanks.” Mic took the offered gift. Endeavor really was making an effort to play nice! It was a good sign, probably.

Or maybe it had just been a ploy to make him stop talking. Fat chance!

“Look, man, all I’m sayin’ is if you and your lady ain’t feelin’ it anymore, there’s nothin wrong with gettin’ back out there, y'know? That’s a lot of beef to leave in the back of the coldbox t'get freezer burnt, y'feel me?”

No, he probably didn’t, Mic thought as he popped open the can and took a swig.

What was he talking about? Beef? Freezer burnt? Feel him? It was like they spoke two different languages. Yet, Enji recognized the individual words... just not the way they were strung together. Normally, he could chalk it up to the slang of youths changing, but Present Mic wasn't too much younger than him... right? Looking to the man's hairline only confirmed that for Enji.

Rather than admitting his confusion, he cleared his throat and said, "Regardless of the state of our, um, beef, it doesn't change the fact that I am faithful to my wife." And, you know, the most obvious reason he wasn't dating the winged hero: Hawks's gender.

They really needed something else to talk about...

Flames burst from the soles of Endeavor's boots when they came to a blockade of rubble, cutting off their progress down the road. Hovering above the other hero, Enji squinted at the area beyond the mess of concrete strewn over the pavement. It would be troublesome for his partner to clamber over, especially in that stiff leather. The best course of action would be an alternate route, erasing the awkwardness of offering to ferry Mic over it.

"Why don't we discuss something else? How is Shoto fairing in school? Whenever I ask him, he just says fine." He landed beside the shorter man and jabbed a finger toward a small side street to indicate their new path.

Tch, Katsuki thought the years of being fussed over were behind him. Guess not. Sighing, he reclined in his chair, feet propped on his desk. Obviously, she wasn't giving up until he gave her a real answer.

Then, it hit him. The perfect gift. One that would keep everyone busy and away from him all day.

"Fine. The only thing I really want is the whole dorm deep cleaned, top to bottom, no corners cut."

Endeavor’s snappy response wasn’t enough to steal away Mic’s smile; he was expecting it. Watching the guy upright a vending machine put a dent in it, though. Ah, right. They were supposed to be working, technically. It wasn’t uncommon for a patrol to go completely uneventful, but Endeavor was making him look bad out here.

“Extracurricular– huh?” That was a weird way of saying they hadn’t had time to go out, but were they, or weren’t they?? Mic righted a trash can with his foot and dropped in an errant beer can. There, he was helping. “I mean yeah, the hero biz makes it tough to find the time to get your snuggle on, but are you two an item, or not?” Actually … “I mean, are you guys dating each other.”

Man, Endeavor was a little thick, in more ways than one. Come to think of it, his youngest kid was kind of the same way. Was whatever they had a hereditary thing? Huh. It wasn’t like they were dumb, not by a long shot, they just … weren’t very good in the peopling department.

The sound of Endeavor’s rumbling voice was enough to pull the man out of his own head, and suddenly, Hizashi was gone and Mic was back, grinning reassuringly up at his fellow pro hero.

“Who, me? Nah! You kiddin’? How many guys get the chance to get to know the number one hero, huh?”

Not that Endeavor needed an ego boost in the slightest. But Mic was used to dealing with grumps. This was just … a different brand of grump. Not his brand, but it would do for now.

“Speakin’ of that, you and Hawks hook up yet, or nah?” Hawks wasn’t talking, he may as well try and get the deets from the other side while he had the chance.

It was like the lights switched on and somebody was finally. The jarring swap between stoic and brooding to this grinning clown nearly gave Enji whiplash. Anyone with weaker nerves would have flinched away from this drastic mood swing, but Enji simply turned to his focus back to the street ahead.

It was quiet, the once bustling streets empty, save for debris from damaged buildings and garbage. It made the Voice Hero louder than normal... Pausing, Enji knelt. A large cluster of vending machines laid face down in the shade of a shop awning. Why would someone do that? Now, nobody could access them.

"This isn't a social event." His knee-jerk reply immediately struck him as something past Enji would have said. Grimacing at his own reaction, he wiggled his fingers beneath the edge of one of the machines and heaved it upright. Thick cracks now cut through the front plate, making it difficult to read the name of each drink option, but not impossible thanks to the accompanying image.

"But, I suppose it couldn't hurt to speak casually while we work," he backpedaled, swiping his hands together to rid them of the dusty residue coating the machine.

Hook up? Like... going fishing? What a curious question. "We haven't had time for extracurricular activities."

Who was she calling old? Tch, just wait twenty years-- his mother's glycerin quirk would keep his skin supple and unwrinkled while she turned into a raisin.

"The only thing I want is to not be bothered by you extras."

Mic hadn't been thrilled when informed by the higher ups that his patrol partner had been swapped out that week. Supposedly this was because, as they'd so delicately put it, Mic had been too distracted when patrolling with Eraserhead. And they weren't wrong, but the voice hero was still severely miffed, unusually quiet, mouth set in a tight scowl, brows knit together in a glare unseen behind reflective shades. At least he matched the mountain of a man who walked beside him with that expression.

In his earlier years, Enji would have turned his nose up at his current task. Patrolling with some disc jockey playing hero because he couldn't be successful enough in either aspiration? Even a fledgling Endeavor would have thought himself too good for the team up. That frame of mind led him down a dark path, one full of pitfalls that he was still trying to claw his way out of.

Besides, Mic fought alongside him in the seige on Jaku Hospital. That proved the man desired more than just monetary gain.

Face set in an ever-present resting scowl, he canted his head to catch a glimpse of the shorter man. How many people got to see this side of the Voice Hero? Most of the times Enji viewed him in public, he was bouncing around like a court jester, a too wide smile plastered across his face. This stark difference made him appear to be a completely different person.

"I take it you aren't pleased with our match-up?" He rumbled, trying to sound conversational, maybe even friendly... Yet, failing miserably at both; Enji never could emote appropriately.
