Listen, I liked Sanders. But the Supreme Court is the only thing I care about right now.
If you vote for anyone that isn't the Democrat nominee, we are looking at a 7-2 right-wing SCOTUS. For how long? 30-40 YEARS.
RBG is 87. Breyer is 81. Chances of them making it to 2024 are not great.
For the record, I think this system is FUCKED and this isn't how SCOTUS composition should be decided, but it is how it is right now.
If you care about the rights of women, of minorities of any kind, you really need to vote for the democrat nominee. No third parties or write ins. No abstaining. And for crying out loud, no assuming that Trump won't win even if you don't vote. VOTE BLUE.
Joe Biden is chemo. Chemo sucks and sorta tries to kill you, but you take it because it kills your cancer faster.
The current state of affairs with regards to how the country’s being run? Cancer.
Bernie Sanders would have been a surgery that cuts the tumor out without long-term damage, but from the looks of it we’re at the point where that’s not a viable option.
Not voting is essential oils: it smells nice and does nothing.
Reblogging for one of the best analogies of this election cycle I’ve ever read.
Wow. As a cancer survivor, this is a PERFECT metaphor. Those chemo bags literally have big “TOXIC” stickers on them. If a nurse were to spill one on their arm, it would cause nasty chemical burns, and they inject that shit right into your veins.
My chemo left me with long-term lung damage. Now that the plague has come to town, that lung damage could very well allow COVID-19 to kill me.
But you know what?
I hope to god it doesn’t come to that, but even if it does, I’ve had 16 years I wouldn’t have had without the chemo. I’ve gotten married, gotten a Masters and a PhD, had a kid, written a lot of fic that’s made a lot of people happy. No way would I go back and refuse chemo just because it would leave me damaged instead of dead.
And the best part of this metaphor? The cancer had spread to my lungs anyhow, so if I’d let it kill me, it’s not like I would’ve died with nice clear lungs!
These idiots are going “But Biden will leave scarring our lungs! We’ll never be able to scuba dive! We’ll be less able to fight off nasty lung infections! We might die from it someday!” and ignoring the fact that the cancer of Trump will kill us very quickly and has already fucked up our lungs anyhow.
And I’m gonna repeat the best line from up there:
Not voting is essential oils: it smells nice and does nothing.
No lie, I do appreciate how Tan and Karamo speak out on this to the others, and the others LET THEM, and give them the floor when they’re talking about how being brown/black and being gay intersect. Similarly to the way they give Jonathan the floor when he’s talking about the difference in presentation being being, for example, someone like Antoni and Bobby who straight people generally don’t find threatening, and being someone like Jonathan who, in his own words, never had a CHOICE about being in the closet because “Sky is blue, water is wet, Jonathan is flamingly homosexual”. There are different experiences here, but Queer Eye actually gives them air time to talk about intersections of prejudice??? and that’s… so weirdly cool????

I did not come here to be attacked in this manner
the funniest and best thing i’ve learned while doing research for this shakespeare project is that in the late 19th century, there was this group called the american acclimatization society and their thing was bringing european plants and animals to the u.s. so one member was this guy named eugene schieffelin and he was like obsessed with shakespeare, so he went, “hey, wouldn’t it be cool if we tracked down EVERY SPECIES OF BIRD SHAKESPEARE EVER MENTIONED and brought them ALL to America” so he rounded up like a hundred European starlings and released them in central park, and now there are upwards of 200 million starlings in North America and they cause around $1 billion worth of damage to crops every year, all because shakespeare mentioned them exactly ONCE in Henry IV part 1
