The boredom drowned, yeah.
bobby-walshâ:
âNo training for you, then?â
âRightâŠ.â He stared at the handful of cabins. They were very, very different from the barracks at Camp Jupiter. âYou guys are separated by your parentage.â
âNot until old lefty heals up.â Daphne reminded him, tapping the side of her leg. Will and Lena were right. She had to rest before she could start training againâŠeven if it meant falling behind in her training. âAnd you guys are separated byâŠ.ability? Kind of? Sort of?â She gritted her teeth, hoping she didnât offend him.
âGodly ranking and social status, mostly.â
It was a bit hard to grasp at first, if you werenât used to the way things were in New Rome. âIâm on the Fourth. My godly relatives arenât thaaaat important.â And he shrugged, because really. âSo... which one is yours?â
bobby-walshâ:
âHey, that way the new girl can practice.â
Bobby grinned at her and started following her. âSo. Lava wall. Pretty hot.â He laughed at his own joke. âWhat else do you like to do around here?â
âNice one.â Daphne smirked, trying not to think about how her heart was beating a little bit faster than before. âThereâs sand volleyball, which is fun. Some people train, I watchâŠ.mostly.â She led him through the U - bend of cabins. âAnd here is where we live.â
âNo training for you, then?â
âRight....â He stared at the handful of cabins. They were very, very different from the barracks at Camp Jupiter. âYou guys are separated by your parentage.â
bobby-walshâ:
âAnd that would be a real shame.â
âSay⊠since youâre not a pancake right now, wanna show me around your camp? I donât come here that often.â
âYou want the new girl to show you around?â Daphne teased, although she was secretly pleased. Besides, how did anyone say no to those ice blue eyes. âFollow me.â She smiled, waving her hand to signal that he should follow her.
âHey, that way the new girl can practice.â
Bobby grinned at her and started following her. âSo. Lava wall. Pretty hot.â He laughed at his own joke. âWhat else do you like to do around here?â
bobby-walshâ:
Most of my time is spent on the other side of the portal.
Thatâd explain it.
What brings you to this side of the portal?
Free time and some boredom.
bobby-walshâ:
âNot really. I guess we both were lucky.â
âYou think so?â Daphne grinned, biting down on her bottom lip. âWell, I meanâŠI know I am otherwise Iâd be flat as a pancake right now.â
âAnd that would be a real shame.â
âSay... since youâre not a pancake right now, wanna show me around your camp? I donât come here that often.â
bobby-walshâ:
Not exactly a newbie.
I havenât seen you around before.
Most of my time is spent on the other side of the portal.
bobby-walshâ:
âIt was a pleasure.â
âSo, do you go around catching a lot of falling girls?â
âNot really. I guess we both were lucky.â
bobby-walshâ:
âI didnât say that. Youâre not of use as a soldier, but weâre not at war. Well, you guys arenât.â Camp Jupiter had War Games once a week, after all, and those were as serious as any actual battle.
âSo⊠just be careful. Since I canât be around to catch you all the time.â
Daphne laughed, but couldnât help but still feel a little useless. âYeah, although Iâll be grateful anytime you do. Catch me, that is.â
âIt was a pleasure.â
bobby-walshâ:
âBecause itâs an injury, not a candy bar.â Sure, being handed things could take away some of their value, but not when it came to an injury.
âYou wouldâve been forced into the infirmary if you were in the Legion. You canât fight with an injured ankle, and if you canât fight, youâre of no useâŠ. so good thing youâre not one of us, then.â
âItâs not like that.â Daphne sighed. This is why sheâd hid it from him in the first place. She hated talking about what happened to her that kept her from the thing she loved the most. âItâs not like I can sit on my behind all day to let it rest like it apparently needs to. Itâs gonna take time to heal and until then, I guess Iâm not of use.â She shrugged as he confirmed her worst suspicions. A hurt demigod had no place here.
âI didnât say that. Youâre not of use as a soldier, but weâre not at war. Well, you guys arenât.â Camp Jupiter had War Games once a week, after all, and those were as serious as any actual battle.
âSo... just be careful. Since I canât be around to catch you all the time.â
bobby-walshâ:
Just taking a look around.Â
And then I got too close to the lake. Thanks, nymphs.
Poking around the woods is a generally a good way to find trouble. At least for newbies.
Not exactly a newbie.
bobby-walshâ:
âRiiiiight.â
âSo, youâre a demigod cheerleader with an injured ankle. Canât they give you ambrosia or something? Itâs a legit question.â
âI donât know.â Daphne shrugged, genuinely confused. âThey said something about it being a mortal injury? I donât know if I exactly trust it yetâŠseems too easy. Why work for something if itâs just that easy?â
âBecause itâs an injury, not a candy bar.â Sure, being handed things could take away some of their value, but not when it came to an injury.
âYou wouldâve been forced into the infirmary if you were in the Legion. You canât fight with an injured ankle, and if you canât fight, youâre of no use.... so good thing youâre not one of us, then.â
bobby-walshâ:
Yeah, I can see that.
Iâm Bobby, by the way.
Teddy. What were you doing roaming around?
Just taking a look around.Â
And then I got too close to the lake. Thanks, nymphs.
bobby-walshâ:
âYou hurt your ankle.â
âYou know, you couldâve said that when I asked if you were okay.â
âYou asked about my leg, not my ankle.â Daphne pointed out, waggling a finger in his face. âItâs fine. I mean, it hurts, but it always hurts a bit soâŠnothing new. Like I said, I need to rest it.â
âRiiiiight.â
âSo, youâre a demigod cheerleader with an injured ankle. Canât they give you ambrosia or something? Itâs a legit question.â
bobby-walshâ:
And yet it feels like they just wanted to take my shirt off.
But thanks for the help.
Maybe. I like the other option more.Â
Anytime. Iâm a natural knight in shining armor.
Yeah, I can see that.
Iâm Bobby, by the way.
bobby-walshâ:
âNo.â He laughed along with her. âYou just look very⊠cheery.â
âThank you.â Daphne beamed. To her, there was no bigger compliment. âI havenât been able to do it much since I hurt my ankle, but Iâm glad I still have the cheerleader spirit.â
âYou hurt your ankle.â
âYou know, you couldâve said that when I asked if you were okay.â
bobby-walshâ:
âOf course youâre a cheerleader.â
âBelieve it or not, youâre not the first person to say that to me today.â Daphne laughed. âYou have something against cheerleaders?â
âNo.â He laughed along with her. âYou just look very... cheery.â
