I made a decision to accept where I am today and show up for myself fully. Showing up for myself means taking control of things I can change, speaking up for my truths, using my powerful voice, and make my needs known fiercely. I also made a decision to take responsibility for my thoughts and actions.

Earlier this week, my good friends and I decided to take matters into our own hands and create a new progressive movement to educate and empower citizens to actively participate in the political process to hold elected officials accountable in creating progressive laws and policies, which benefit all. It was the first time I felt hopeful since last Tuesday.

With all the hateful speech circulating online and on the ground, I decided to focus on what I love and nothing else. My love for my faith, my community, my culture and my people won't cower in the face of hate but thrive and soar to new heights I never knew imaginable.

Join me in continuing to share what you love and not allow hate to win. Let's fight for love now more than ever.

Yes, I'll be attending the DNC representing North Carolina but please know I will never support destructive policies created by our "leaders" such as #HB2 or #HB972. I’m excited to share that I’ve been charged with directing a summer fellowship teaching college-aged students about community organizing and the electoral process. Students for Education Reform is a nonprofit working to improve public education by building student power.
