the most underrated act of love in six of crows is that scene where kaz gives up everything he has fought and clawed tooth and god damn nail for, literally every bit of money and assets he has, describing it as "every ill-gotten cent", to buy off inej's contract and give her freedom. not because of the monetary value but because of what that accumulation meant to kaz. he had literally built every square ounce of his money and power and holdings for the expressed purpose of getting back at pekka rollins since he was NINE YEARS OLD and it did not come cheap. he tells us that chapter before that he's taken "knives, bullets, and too many punches to count, all for a little piece of [Ketterdam]" he tells us that this is the city he bled for. and he gives every last inch of it up for inej to be free. kaz chooses inej's life over the years of his that he had poured into his revenge plan not even so that they can be together, but so inej has the freedom to LEAVE. chapter 26 of crooked kingdom my beloved. kaz brekker my beloved. I have never seen another act of love quite like that.
