August
August has ripped my heart open
And taken me on a journey
Through every single time
That has ever happened before.
My heart is stitched together
Like a poorly sewn patchwork quilt
Beating softly, as if scared to be heard
Scared that if it beats too loud
The Grim Reaper will return
And shred it all over again.
August has served to remind me
That my pain will not go unfelt for long
It will not be ignored
It demands to be felt
Until my heart is drowning in my salty tears
And once again, it's soft beat quietens
So that I will forget
How many times it has been torn apart
And put back together
hastily, unceremoniously
Like a problem child to be dealt with.
August has unraveled me
My organs lie flat on the ground
Exposed to the sudden scorching heat
And every time I try to return them to my body
A hurricane comes and sweeps me off my feet
And my insides come flying out again
Further and further away from each other
Every time.
August will be my rebirth.
I will feel until all that's left
Is a tiny spark of hope
A glimmer of excitement
A tinge of bliss
All that were buried under years worth of my losses and longings
My failures and unbecomings
I'll feel it all
Until all that's left of me
Is my skin and bones
And the August winds
Ushering in a new life.
