Advantages of the Certified Fraud Examiner Credential
As head of Patterson & Company CPAs PLLC, Bob Patterson is dedicated to saving his clients’ expenses by performing their back-office duties. Bob Patterson, CPA is also a certified fraud examiner (CFE) and can help clients detect possible illegal activities in their organizations.
The CFE designation is recognized as a leading credential in its profession. It is available to associate members of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) who meet specific criteria. Applicants must have good character and meet professional and academic standards. They must also follow the ACFE’s code of ethics and bylaws.
Persons with CFE credentials and their companies get substantial benefits. For example, CFEs earn 23 percent more than their uncertified counterparts. Since the CFE documents one’s skills and experience, it enhances career advancement, as well as job security and visibility in the job market. Leading public sector employers look for the CFE as a sign of quality, including the Securities and Exchange Commission, the FBI, and the Department of Defense.
Finally, the certification can benefit the bottom line. ACFE research shows that businesses with on-site CFEs detect fraud 50 percent sooner than those without any. Corporations with CFEs report a 62 percent reduction in losses.
