hello! it's amy! if you follow my personal account, you'd already know what this is. body double is a side project that i do for fun inbetween infamous, just for when i need to refresh my brain! i decided to make a blog for it so i don't flood my personal account with this game lol.
This game is a side project that I do when I need inspiration for Infamous. That means development on it will be sloooow. Infamous is my main priority right now!
Body Double is a an interactive story that takes place in a cyberpunk inspired world where top secret operatives of an elusive Cypress Industries have the unique ability to jump bodies.
Agent Sawyer is the best Agent in the business, tasked with protecting Cypress Industries and all of its assets.
Until three weeks ago.
Framed for the president's murder and in a last-ditch effort to save their ass, they switch bodies with our regular, ordinary IT-tech MC...who is now walking in the body of a suspect the entire city is looking for. Stuck in a citywide manhunt, MC is now on the run with a pesky Agent who refuses to tell them where their body is. To make matters worse, Agent Sawyer's subconcious is stuck in their head, speaking to them like a pest MC can't shake off.
Wonderful.
With a help of a host of characters from Sawyer's past and MC's present, MC will have to throw themself in a conspiracy to clear Sawyer's name and get back to normal. Relatively. No pressure.
The usual IF stuff: customize your mc from personality to appearance. Unspurisingly from me, BODY DOUBLE is a character driven story with a focus on relationship dynamics, angst and drama...but this time with action.
Mold Sawyer in the prologue and be stuck with them in your head for the rest of the story. Are they humorous? Stoic? Vulgar? Emotional? Arrogant? You decide.
Romance characters like Sawyer's ex (messy) or the human-mech hybrid trying to kill you (messy) or your measly IT tech friend who has no idea what the hell is going on but they're a trooper. Or an AI. Your call.
Try to uncover a conspiracy and solve a murder in a cyberpunk setting.
Don't die?
SAWYER: the agent accused of murder. The wires get crossed when they switch bodies with you, and somehow you have their subconcious in your head. They refuse to switch back until you help clear their name even though you're in their body, which means people are after you now. Asshole move, really.
ROACH: Sawyer's twin brother and perpetual hermit. As a hacker, he has eyes all over the city. He also misses his sibling, so he's determined to see it through.
AGENT BECK [f or m] [RO]: A cool and intimidating fellow Agent of Cypress Industries...and Sawyer's ex partner. Sawyer dumped them, broke their heart, and since then, ghosted them (as one does.) With that said, Beck is determined to help you. And them. Just make sure to try to ignore the longing looks they send your way. It's not towards you, of course.
CAI [RO] [f, m or nb models] : Cypress AI or CAI is Sawyer's former field partner. Honest, cold and emotionless, you can't believe CAI is actually helping you. It must be going against their every makeup to go against Cypress, but having someone like them on your side is beneficial, at least.
HAWKE [m][RO]: the mech-human hybrid tasked with hunting you down. Well, hunting Sawyer down. Their one mission is to see you (Sawyer) dead, which poses a problem so as long as you're in this body. So there's that.
SOLANA [f][RO]: the elusive club owner...and the last person to see the president alive. You can't tell if Solana is an ally or an enemy, but you do know the one thing that drives her is power. Good to keep an eye on her, anyway.
AXL [nb] [RO]: the wealthy child of the now dead president and new heir of Cypress Industries. They hate your (Sawyer's) guts. They have hired all the best operatives and assassins to take you (Sawyer) down, and will stop and nothing to get their justice. If only you could convince them otherwise...
MAV [m or f]: your best friend and fellow IT employee. A trooper, who decides to e your sidekick on this weird...journey. No biggie. Make sure they don't die.

I don't see why not! Sawyer is a bit of a pushover in every personality because of their desperation so that dynamic would be interesting to see actually
femme fatale Sawyer switching with the softest sweetest most babygirl MC 🤔 i do feel sorry for Beck in that situation, imagine finally being treated right but it's by an entirely different person inside your ex's body 😬 will we ever meet the ROs in MC's original body before whatever mess we're in gets resolved? will we also be able to customize their appearance even if we're gonna be in Sawyer's body for most of the story?
You will meet MC in their own body before you switch, yes! And yes you will be able to customize both MC's and Sawyer's appearance. I didn't want to force people into a body or have an appearance they may not like/aren't comfortable with, so that's definitely the top priority to make sure you can customize them both!
And yeah....poor Beck lmao....the confusion that one must have in that situation I wouldn't know how to deal, but Beck is an agent and they know how to handle it all (maybe)
have you seen altered carbon? because the beck/MC romance is giving altered carbon s1 and i’m gnawing through my fence about it (and if you haven’t seen it i highly recommend for the cyberpunk vibes!!)

Already in love with Mav both platonically and romantically. What a trooper. Average NPC side character getting willingly swept up in (the very dangerous) Main Character shenanigans will always be one of my favorite tropes. If they die I'm going ballistic 😭

What are set things about sawyer? Goals, or something of their personality, idk?
Really nothing. Their personality, gender, pronouns and appearance are customizable. They're basically another MC. (Sawyer isn't their real name btw, neither is Beck's. Those are the names given to them by Cypress when they become operatives.)
I think the only things that's set about Sawyer are:
they dumped beck and do not want to get back together with them
they really want to clear their name
they defected from cypress
they're very good at what they do. (they were the best agent in the company.)(not that it matters anymore lolol)
Wait. If Sawyer never loved Beck then how are they exes? (Forgive my confusion I am extremely tired and my brain goes kaput whenever I’m tired lol)
They dated because Sawyer thought there was something there but they were wrong. Unfortunately in that time Beck fell pretty hard and Sawyer realized they stained their friendship with this romance they thought they had.
No matter what, Sawyer does not think things through when it comes to their personal life.
I'm picturing a very short mc suddenly finding themself in a tall body and just tripping over things like bambi and banging their head all the time. I think it'd be hilarious, especially for people expecting a super skilled agent, and finding someone with like negative dexterity 😅
What percentage of the prologue is going to be things the MC is also aware of? I get that it's going to be hard to create Sawyer without a Sawyer POV, but I'd like to avoid as much that the MC doesn't know as possible. It's hard for me to compartmentalize information from different POVs. (For this reason, I normally do not read POV swaps at all, but I think I'll have to for Sawyer creation.)
Understandable! MC is going to be aware of most of what happens in the prologue because Sawyer will (begrudgingly) explain it to them, but Sawyer also has a tendency of...keeping things from the MC. Not a lot happens in the prologue, but it does start in media res (Sawyer is already on the run during the prologue). A lot of what was happening with Sawyer unravels very slowly throughout the plot, but it's not just MC who is in the dark about things, but the rest of the cast.
Sawyer seems to only know half of their own story as well, so it's really a journey of figuring out how they ended up in the mess they're in.
Do you have any ideas to what types of personality can swayed have?
stoic - friendly/jolly - humorous - humorless
then there's going to be sub personality types in certain situations:
takes things seriously - doesn't take things seriously enough - emotional - logical - vulgar - reserved
the prologue will have their personality set since the prologue is in Sawyer's POV and you'll know what kind of person Sawyer is before actually starting the main story ^^
but hear me out since Sawyer is gonna be a RO wouldn’t it be easier to have a set personality for them? Just thinking about how much work it d be to write all of the varying personalities… oof

But also since I’m not promising any quick results since this is just a side project I feel like I can take my time with it and I really do want Sawyer to have different personalities because I think it’d be funny lolol but it’s not completely different. (I don’t think ha…)
Can't wait to make Sawyer an asshole and MC a sweetheart just to have them bicker over potential solutions and replies to people and events. Like Beck says something and Sawyer wants MC to tell them to fuck off but MC is like "No!! That's mean!!" Peak "Souls of the innocent" "A bagel" "NO" "Two bagels" vine energy.
MC just talking to themself considering only they can hear Sawyer. Basically just blurting out random words when they get too heated in their discussion lol
