Everyone assumes Google's acquisition of Motorolla Mobility is about competing with Apple for handset / tablet supremacy. The folks at NewTeeVee are agreeing but point out an even more compelling opportunity to reboot the failed GoogleTV with Motor Mobil's settop box division.
In the short term the market is a popularity contest; in the long term it is a weighing machine.

The NYT offers a thoughtful piece on the challenges of being hyper-connected via Twitter, Facebook, foursquare, Google+, etc. through the eyes of a woman who literally setup a brand new life in NYC entirely via Twitter.
