Randall Boggs // 30 // Thief // Magical
Character description
Randallâs home life growing up truly affected how he perceives the world to this day. He was an only child who had to watch his parents struggle to get by, always getting into trouble with the law for things they did necessary for survival, whether it was doing illegal work to pay the bills or stealing food to fill their empty stomachs. To Randall, this was normal, but that didnât mean he didnât want to do better, to be better. He knew the other kids families in school had more money and nicer things than his did, but the one thing he knew he had that others did not was magic. The magic everyone in the Boggs family had was something they took pride in and used to their advantage, and it helped them to be so sneaky and able to fill jobs that were typically hard to get away with. Despite the pride in his magic, though, he still wanted to be better, which was why he focused so hard on being a good student. He was the first of his family to go to college, and this was a big reason why he was so frustrated when Mike got so wrapped up in being better than Sulley. Randall could sense that it was going to cause nothing but trouble, and Randall couldnât let a petty feud get in the way of him graduating. He has no regrets breaking up with Mike and doing what he needed to do, but he sure does hate that Mike and Sulley are best friends now.
Headcanons
Randall wore glasses up until college. He hardly ever wears them now unless he absolutely needs to, and it is a reason why his eyes are constantly squinting. He tried to invest in contacts but, he just hated the idea of touching his eyes with his fingers.Â
His terrible eyesight and lack of glasses or contacts has made him quite the clumsy person, and part of that clumsiness effects his magic. He had to perfect the art of blending into his surroundings, but it isnât as simple as it seems. When he was first getting used to his magic as a kid, he struggled to control when it would happen. If he bumped into something too hard, he would blend into whatever he bumped into. If he was anxious or upset, his body would automatically decide to camouflage, which was both a good and bad thing. It took lots of trial and error to perfect his gift, and his parents surprisingly helped him with controlling it until he was old enough to figure it out on his own. He still has small slip ups here and there, mostly when heâs struggling to see and bumps into a counter or something.
Mike and Sulley turned Randall into a competitive person with an obsessive personality and he hates it. It was the main reason why he broke up with Mike and yet, now heâs competing against them. He used to want to just do better for himself, but now he wants to be better out of spite of Mike and Sulley.Â
Dating is hard for him for some reason. He constantly feels misunderstood and isnât sure heâll ever find a relationship that makes him feel complete. At first, his and Mikeâs relationship was great, but he couldnât keep competing against Sulley in order to be with him. His and Shegoâs relationship was also great, but he opened himself up too much and scared her away. How is he supposed to find someone that had the good qualities of both of them, but none of their bad qualities? Heâs kinda given up on going out of his way for dating, deciding to let the universe do itâs thing for his love life. He is very lonely and still wants to seek companionship, but is also too insecure to open himself up again.Â
Despite that he wants to be better than his family, he still finds himself in schemes and illegal work that are similar to what his parents would do. He isnât sure why he does it. Because itâs what heâs used to? Because of the thrill of doing illegal things? Because heâs desperate? He despised it at first but has learned to accept it for what it is. Somehow, he became exactly what he once hated, but all he can do is embrace it. He often wonders if he was just destined to be this way.
He was always a teachers pet growing up and now heâs always the bosses right hand man. That was how he ended up so close to their boss at the electric company and got involved in moving and storing drugs for extra money. The worst part was he knew it was wrong and knew if they got caught it would ruin everything, but despite knowing that he did it anyway. And, if given the chance, heâd do it again in a heartbeat.
jail really changed him. He bulked up more, toughened himself out some, and he constantly thought about revenge. How did the one guy who graduated college end up behind bars, while the two guys who got expelled from college continued to succeed? Why did Mike and Sulley constantly effect his happiness? And how could he sneak his way back into their lives to tear down everything they worked hard for, just as they did to him? Luckily, he was good at kissing up to important people, so it was easy to get out on good behavior. Coming out of jail, Randall was a new man.
Its really sad how much jail effected his reputation, though. His college degree is pretty much worthless because no one wants to hire someone with a criminal record, so itâs a good thing he has lots of experience with sketchy jobs involving magic. Heâs also a great thief since he can use his magic to blend in and steal in broad daylight.
Never call him randy unless you wanna be on his shit list. He hasnât let anyone call him that since him and Mike broke up. He will refuse to respond to people who still call him that if heâs really in a bad mood.
