I had a bit of trouble getting through the beginning of the book, but it was soooo worth it! A truly touching story with some great life advice thrown in. I'm a big sci-fi fan, but the sci-fi aspect is really a subplot and the thought experiment of "what if we lived in a world where we could know the day we die 24 hours in advance" becomes the backdrop to a slow burn love story. Despite knowing that they both die at the end, I was still somehow taken by surprise and cried while reading the last few chapters.

Lucky Boy is a story about a brave young woman who perseveres through every humiliation and violation imaginable for a shot at a better life. It also the story of a couple who so desperately desire a child, they fail to realize they are tools of state-enacted violence against an immigrant population they are not far removed from. Needless to say, it’s not an easy read.
