Capturing the stare from his brother that showed doubt in his thoughts, clicking his tongue against his teeth before letting out a snort of amusement. Offering a shrug in response as he was simply following along with his brother without much thought behind it, peeking his head over Soryongs shoulder with curiosity as his eyes explored the the open door. “Princess?” he chimed in his piece before slowly stepping to stand beside his brother, hands shoved inside his pockets. Elbowing his brother gently, shooting a glare. “Did you double check!?”

When hearing the voices, Nana’s head popped out of the kitchen, large eyes peering at them from around the corner. At the sight of them, she grinned; they had come after all. She gave a small wave in greeting, a bright smile on her features.  "Come in!" She called out, shuffling back into the kitchen and grabbing a platter of food before putting it on the table. She rolled her eyes briefly - she had opened the door for them, but she supposed they were just being polite. “The food’s done. I don’t know whether it was my timing or your timing, but either way it was excellent.” She laughed, getting the utensils out as her gaze met them again. “Did you find the place okay?”

He listened, in much the same way that he always did when it was required of him. It was a minor battle to keep his thoughts in order, though for the most part they remained centered on the anomaly that was the woman at his side. History, or at least the version that he had been taught in school, spoke of genocide; wars built upon fear and rage. Her tale came across as something far too similar to a children’s tale, such that he refrained from speaking for a full minute.

“I can only imagine.” A light joke, somewhat dry, slipped out with a quiet chuckle. He cast a glance to his right and watched her expression, finding her looking back at him—his attention flittered forward again, “Yes, I did.” Though the latter question puzzled him, leaving Eiji to think—always cautious; a free meal could be taken away—“It is a favorite. Is it strange?”

His hands slipped into his pockets, tugging at the soft, black fabric of his pants as a stray wind blew through the thoroughfare. With it came the scents of food from every corner of the world, another cause for him to be on his best behavior; already, his stomach was beginning to rumble, “How was it living at the Air temples?”

"Hm?" She politely laughed, looking at him. "Of course it's not strange for a person of the Fire Nation to love spicy food. It's in our blood." She grinned, only for her twinkling eyes to become distracted as she gazed around, her surroundings suddenly filled with multiple options. She mentally noted that she was very glad that Eiji ended up leading her, since she would of gotten lost and forgotten the directions as soon as she saw the hustle and bustle of the city. That was, until, Eiji brought her back to Earth with his questions, blinking at the thought and staring away. "It was great." She said automatically, as if in front of her mother, only for her eyes to dip away; Eiji was not someone she needed to lie to. "I lied. It was horrible, I didn't fit in at all. Me being from the Fire Nation, and all that, and being unable to meditate." She gave a rueful laugh, staring at the sky. "So I came here, since I don't think I'd ever be accepted or be able to assimilate with my own people." She shrugged, only to smile at him. "I'm rambling again, sorry. Are we almost there?"

Fire Nation cuisine | Eiji & Nana

Not many people favored the cuisine of the fire nation unless they were familiar with it or of an experimental state of mind.

Nana's smile was brilliant when the man decided to show her the way, seemingly bribed by the idea of a good meal. She nodded when he smiled, returning the gesture politely and gave a small bow when he began to lead the way, long legs matching her strides. "Oh, no." She replied, blinking in surprise and shaking her head. "I was raised in the fire nation, my father is a fire bender while my mother an air bender, so I'm more used to the fire nation way of life ..." She laughed cheerfully, eyes flitting from his face to the street before her. "Much to the chagrin of my mother."  Her steps were light in a way that could only suggest an airbender, though how she held herself with confidence screamed fire bender. She supposed to herself that she wasn't used to the graceful way airbenders walked yet, and wondered if she ever would. Through long lashes, she tilted her head and looked up at the man with curiousity. "How about you? You grew up in the Fire Nation too, right? Do you really like spicy food too?"

"air benders help those who prove that they need our help … i’m assuming you wish for me to teach you a thing or two …" he glanced toward her once more, brows arched in speculation. however, he merely glanced down toward her offered hand before pressing lips to a firm line, "i’d help you, but unfortunately i cannot …" with that, he lifted off the ground in a small jump before bouncing upwards and into the tree branches, finding himself a comfortable spot on one of the lower branches, "i’m from the western air temple, i suppose it’s a pleasure to meet you … or something…" he mumbled, waving a hand in an act of dismissal, "and my name is kavi."

"I don't need help actually air bending." She replied smoothly, lashes blinking up at him as she sat on the ground, head tilting up at him. She sighed as he denied her help, her nose crinkling at the man's apparent rudeness. In thought, she sighed and looked at the ground. "I need help with meditation, you know? The spiritual side to things. I'm not good at it at all." She laughed a little ruefully and looked down at the ground.  The man didn't seem to want to help her, and really, she shouldn't be surprised. There was nothing in it for him. She sighed as her cheeks puffed up in thought, her eyes looking up at his face with a pout. "I'll buy you food, make you food. Air benders really like pies, right? How about that?" She smiled hopefully, though didn't know if it would sway Kavi's opinion or not. "I'm Nana, I studied at the Eastern for a couple of years. A little fruitlessly though ..."

so, it is her. a smile appeared on her face although it quickly shifted to shock. it wasn’t everyday that someone was so close to her. perhaps because there was no one who was comfortable around ki, it’d been a long time since she saw a soul whom she could call—friend.

ki felt the warmth step away from her and smiled, bowing. “i’m actually studying.” she nodded. “—but, what about you? i thought you went to the air temples…did they kick you out?” she joked, hoping that was really not the case. she was actually quite happy to have met nana here, here where she felt alone.

To the last part, Nana laughed out loud, her eyes cheerfully sparkling in her giddiness to see her friend after years, even taking her hands as if worried the girl was merely an apparition or hallucination. "They wish they could. I was hopeless." She laughed again. "So my parents put me into this new UNE program, though I still have to try and meditate everyday." She bit her lip, as if trying to suppress a smile, her cheeks bunching up a little in fondness. Then, her eyes widened in excitement. "Where are you staying? You have to tell me."

Nana found herself frowning and re-arranging the alcohol, having spent a longer-than-expected amount of time trying to find ones that were both sweet and bitter, while getting her favourite ones as well. She huffed quietly, just putting them all on the table, only to enter the kitchen and unpacking all the meat, long legs matching her strides. She peered into the large pan with meat on a low heat, having decided to do more than the dishes she initially planned. It made her wallet a little thinner but it had been a long time since she had had home-made fire nation food. She was excited at the thought too.  She had the door open, practically open to strangers really if they wanted to waltz in, if they weren't afraid of getting blown out the door by a strong gust of wind and falling down a railing. Wasn't their fault.

Long, slender—pianists’—fingers slipped through his hair, tugging at dark strands before tucking them out of sight. Dark eyes narrowed; his fingers moved to his lips, slipping between to allow his teeth to gnaw at the edges of his fingernails. Almost immediately, however, the male stopped; a sound of self-admonishment followed, while his hand moved again to sort stray locks.

He was in need of a haircut.

Eiji contemplated it for a minute; the cost and the benefit of such a thing. With the balance of his bank account emblazoned on the back of his eyelids, he tossed out the idea and turned away from the mirror. His hands tugged at the worn red shirt draped over his frame; already, it’d seen far too many wears, with the bottom hem painstakingly mended in three different shades of vermillion.

The only reminder of his old life, it seemed, was one that Eiji wasn’t willing to release without a good fight.

It earned him the occasional stare as he made his way down the street, hands in his pockets—curling around the narrow square of his wallet. His attention wandered from place to place, taking in the fragrant scent of frying fish from one stall, and barbequed lizard in another. The street functioned in much the same way as a bazaar, offering any number of delicacies from around the world; yet he was drawn to the one that smelled most of home.

Only to find his journey interrupted by the calling of a feminine voice over the call of cooks, selling their foodstuffs, “Hello?”

His head tilted, Eiji regarded her with curiosity, “If you keep walking down this street, there’s a small restaurant on the left; between two clothing shops. They sell good food there.”

Not that he could afford to eat there regularly.

She looked up at the man, listening keenly to the directions as her head turned inquisitively to the apparent place in question, pursing her lips. Even with such helpful directions, she wasn't used to this city, and knew she would get lost despite having them. Thick brows furrowed in thought, looking back up at him and biting her lip.  "Could you show me where it is? I'm not very good with directions." She sighed a little sheepishly, taking the hair away from her face as she frowned down the street in question as her eyes flitted back at him. "Are you busy? I could pay you for your trouble. With the food from there. I'm willing to pay a lot, since it's been awhile since I've eaten good food in a long while, since I've been living at air temples for a couple of years- oh, I'm rambling again - sorry -" She blinked in realisation, grinning at him in apology as her body turned towards the street with a tilt of the head, politely waiting for an answer. "Do you want to come? If not, that's okay too. I'll be on my way then."

"that would be the worst idea i’ve ever heard—and i’ve heard plenty of bad ideas." mostly from herself but ki didn’t feel the need to voice that out loud.

Her thoughts about her apparently dwindling future was interrupted by a voice, a very familiar voice at that. With a swoop of air, suddenly she was sitting back up, eyes wide to hear the fire nation accent she knew so well and had.  Her eyes trailed up to see the figure looking down at her, recognising the woman's features immediately. "Ki?" She whispered, eyes sparkling almost in awe. As if concluding herself that it was, in fact, her childhood friend, a bright smile spreading across her features as she flicked her hands down to produce a pocket of air that blew her up to her feet, the woman's arms circling the firebender with a grin. "Ki!" She grinned, though immediately stepped back and bowed, an ecstatic expression on her features. "What are you doing in Republic City? Are you travelling?"

She had found herself in the park again, sat down by the shade of a tree as she breathed deeply, her face contorting slightly as she did so. Her nostrils flared in irritation that despite wanting to meditate, stray blonde strands of her hair seemed magnetized to her face. Was her own body trying to distract her from meditating? Unbelievable. It's like she was never meant to do this at all. Though still, she stubbornly sat down, concentrating about meditating as her thoughts lingered somewhere else only to pull them back in, eyebrows twitching downwards as she re-adjusted her seating position. She must of looked a little ridiculous, frowning and chewing on her lips as she concentrated on the aspect of concentrating, wondering if it'd be considered closer to meditation if she just fell asleep. Out of frustration, the airbender kicked her legs up in the air and fell on her back, her legs flailing a little at her own anger.  "Maybe I should just give up and become a cashier for the rest of my life." She grumbled, staring up at the sky as if talking to the clouds. "Maybe do professional parkour, can you do that?" She smiled at the thought.

Nana found herself blown back by a gust of air, her features contorting in distaste as blonde hair swept back behind her only to end up on her back. She huffed, scrambling back up and promptly began to pick the pieces of grass from her hair as her eyes flitted back to the man with a small raise on an eyebrow.  Her wrist flicked back, as a swoop of air got her back on her feet, planted firmly on her ground. Suddenly, she bowed respectfully and looked up at him with an apologetic smile. "I'm sorry, I didn't realise that was a bad thing to do. I was only trying to get your attention." She laughed nervously as the guy's glare was almost scary.  "I'm an air bender, but I really... really suck at the spiritual side of things, and I thought you should help me out since I saw you meditating." She smiled, her fingers rubbing the inside of her wrist as she spoke, flexing it back and forth a little. Her eyes flitted away in thought, only to frown. "You should help me because ... that's what air benders do. Help people, right?" She seemed rather pleased with the reason she thought of, smiling a little triumphantly. She held her hand out in more of a formal introduction. "I'm Nana. I studied in the Eastern Temple for only a couple of years."

She found herself walking aimlessly around the giant buildings of republic city, though despite the urban streets being quite similar to the ones where she lived, she already felt home sick. What was lucky for her, however, was that Republic City was an immensely multi-cultural megalopolis, and as such had the food her stomach was currently yearning for.  At the thought, she tapped it, eyes narrowing scrutinizingly at the streets in front of her, standing at a corner of an intersection. She didn't even have a map, maybe she should of got one, she thought bitterly to herself. Or maybe she could airbend to higher ground to have a better look around... or she could do the lazy option and ask someone.  She figured that that would be ideal, in order to save her aching feet from walking blocks of streets. Her eyes flitted for anyone who looked anything close to a fire nation citizen, her nose wrinkling in concentration, only to see a man whose clothes just overly suggested fire nation.  "Excuse me! Hello!" She was already calling over, the wind picking up beneath her feet as she trotted over to him, waving her hand out and smiling hopefully to get the man's attention. "Are you someone from the fire nation? I'm new. Very new. What I mean to say is, do you know anywhere I could get some authentic fire nation food? I'm already home sick."  She laughed at herself, only to fade when she realised that he might actually not be fire nation - "Wait, you are fire nation, aren't you? Sorry to assume from your clothes."

Nana's slim arms stretched to the blue sky above her, eyes trailing off to see the whirring and chattering blimps, planes, airships... it was definitely a different background noise to the one she had experienced at the air temples, however she was used to it. She enjoyed it, and made her less home sick as it reminded her of what it was like back in the urbanized cities of the Fire Nation. Though, Nana had not come to Republic City to be a fire bender; rather, she had come to become a better airbender; not just the bending, but culturally as well. That objective found her situated in a park, the grass beneath her feet and the shade of trees tinting her skin green with the subtle whispers of the breeze created by them. It was a pleasant feeling, a stark contrast to the bustling streets only a few blocks away, but it might be enough to meditate. If she could meditate. Her eyes scanned the trees, her nose wrinkling a little as she wondered what would be a good spot, only for her focus to land on a young man sitting in front of a tree, legs crossed... and meditating. She barely thought about it and soon found herself running across the field to the man whose position just screamed air bender.  "Hey-! Hey mister!" Her voice called out amongst the quiet rustling of tree leaves, skidding before him with a small gust of air and landing on her shins, eyes staring wide at the meditating man. "Are you an airbender? Are you good at air bending?" She sounded very enthusiastic, smiling politely despite the borderline rude intrusion. She frowned, bending over a little as a finger gently prodded his forehead back to get his attention, in case he had slipped into a deep meditation sub-conscious. "No, what I really want to ask is, are you good at meditating? I need help with it."
