“Horsemanning, or fake beheading, was a popular way to pose in a photograph in the 1920’s. Sometimes spelled horsemaning, the horsemanning photo fad derives its name from the Headless Horseman, a character from “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.”

Kill the idea that naivety is an unforgivable flaw but cynicism is just wisdom, murder it, chop it up and serve it for dinner, I don’t care, just end this bullshit idea that it’s better to hate than to love and better to rot in miserable bitter resignation than to hope for the best.

Ok, so here’s the thing too. I’m an HR nerd, its how I hope to save the world from employers treating their employees like garbage. And about 90% of the stuff on that board? YOU ACTUALLY CAN GET THEM TO SAY THESE THINGS! How? BY NOT TREATING YOUR EMPLOYEES LIKE GARBAGE!! Ok, yknow what? Get comfortable, this will be a minute
“The customer said the job was perfect!” Yes, when you treat your employees well, treat their job like a career and not a hobby, they’ll probably take prude in their work and not resent the customer for existing
“We are way ahead of schedule.” Again, treat your employees like professionals, and they are more likely to take pride in their work and do it with excellence
“I cancelled my vacation, I’d rather work” This is part of the 10% that you won’t likely hear. In fact, really you NEVER want to hear from an employee. See, people perform better when they have a proper work/life balance. Time away from work absolutely helps employees recharge batteries, reset their perspective. This will always help their work in the long run. If an employee tells you this, the most likely reason is you pay such a crap wage that they cannot afford to take time off.
“The suggestion box is empty” Hey, fearless leader? guess who empties the suggestion inbox? Its you! Customer suggestions? Engaged employees, who care about their work because they aren’t treated like garbage, will welcome suggestions and continually seek to improve their work. Suggestions from the employees? Its up to you to identify the root cause and make a decision how to solve it. And a just wonderful way to get your employee to not give a crap about their work is to throw out their suggestion, tell them to shut up and go back to their desk. People don’t quit their job, they quit managers
“You’re the greatest boss we ever had.” Wow, ok, no-brainer here. ACTUALLY BE THE BEST BOSS TO THEM YOU CAN BE!! Seriously, this not a hard one to achieve. There are tons and tons of awful bosses out there, the bar is set very low.
“I can’t believe how much you pay. Want some back?” Ok, we all know they’ll never offer to give you back their pay, that’s ridiculous. Anyways, their pay is how you attract and retain talent. Paying them less leeches their talent away and increases turnover costs. You can get them to say this. Just pay them a good wage.
“We decided to work over the weekend to get ahead.” Lets reiterate some prior concepts here. Treating your employees well inspires excellence and professionalism. Time off is crucial for sustained performance. Overtime is you paying 1.5 times their pay for work that is increasingly poor the longer they work without a break. Salaried employees should be focus on quality work and projects, not a high volume of busy work. Extra time at work like this should be an exception, not the rule. Its a reaction to a crisis. If your team is staggering from crisis to crisis, that’s the leader’s fault.
“We love this place.” Seriously, this is all up to you. Create a positive culture, treat your employees like skilled professionals, not like wage slaves. Its really so very easy to not treat your employees badly, you’ll be amazed.
“I’m sorry, that was my fault.” This goes back to culture. Treat employees well, like professionals, and try not to overreact to mistakes. You can create an environment where people take responsibility for their actions, who aren’t terrified that if they admit to an error, they’ll get fired. And when they take responsibility for their mistakes, they can learn from them, and not make the same mistake again.
I’m going to skip some on the bottom section, the ones that are just different versions of what was already discussed. But here are some really nifty ones
“Profits are up, costs are down.” Well of course you want to hear this. If you run a good business (which requires happy, engaged employees) you’ll hopefully hear that.
“I don’t need a raise, the review was enough.” You really think your review was so excellent that it alone covers the rising cost of living? Would you accept a review in lieu of payment from a customer? Are you insane? Competitive pay is how you retain talent, not exquisitely well crafted reviews.
“Go home early, we can handle this.” Wow, that sounds like a motivated, professional team who cares about you and their co-workers, and have been encouraged to be able to make executive decision without you watching like a hawk. If only there were ways you could encourage that kind of culture!
“i’d gladly accept a cut in pay.” Ok, really? THEY ARE EMPLOYEES, NOT VOLUNTEERS! THEIR PAY NEEDS TO BE A LIVING WAGE, NOT A STIPEND! Is your business curing cancer? Saving the word in some fashion? If so, and you’ve had a considerable drop in funding, you just might hear this. If you’re just an accounting firm or something, then wake up. You employee humans. Humans need to eat
So in conclusion, if you as a manager feel the need to post this, or even jokingly wish that “oh gee, I just wish my employees were this amazing” then you are an absolute garbage leader. Some of this us just toxic. The rest of it can be done, but not by sitting and wishing for it. You’re a Leader, it is up to you to make a team worth being in.
And when we talk about this in the scale of a huge corporation, its still down to your policies and culture. Do you treat your employees like respected professional colleagues, or like indentured wage slaves in a post-capitalist hellscape?
I rarely criticize my wife, but when I do, it’s spoken directly to her, in private, and with love.
I don’t speak negatively about my wife to other people. Not because she’s perfect (which is an impossible and unfair standard) but because she deserves a husband she can trust. To say anything about my wife that I wouldn’t say to her face, would be a betrayal of that trust.
I never want her to spend a single moment worrying about the way I talk about her when she’s not around.
A little louder

Yes. Thank you.
I see a lot of people on my dash complain about their significant other. Maybe they should show that person this post.
I like to think that Howl and Calcifer just sat down and had tea and a chat once in a while. You would too if your fireplace were a sentient fire demon. It’s one of the perks.
